He isn't. they showed 2/3rds of the Black Sweat video.

I'm hoping he can debut #1 in the States, seeing as it's been awhile. our charts in the UK are complete shite.

Prince never debut number 1 on the US charts has he? I mean albums didn't start debuting at number 1 until the mid to late 90's, unless my memory is flawed.

i was referring to just being #1 in the album chart there. sorry! biggrin

So what happpened GoldenGlove, you were 100% sure it was gonna be #3! I have to say, I thought Top5 too, it had been all week on the midweeks, but clearly fell off badly over the weekend.

No 9 is disappointing but it was Mother's Day week.

The album chart is crammed full of crap like Journey South, that dustbin man whose name escapes me, and there have never been so many opera-lite albums in the top 10 at one time.

If he hadn't been hung up on the whole date thing, I would hope that Universal would have recommended a different release date in the UK. Who knows they might have tried with no result.

I'd be interested to know actual sales volumes for 3121 vs Musicology for their first week.

Guaranteed if it had been released a week either side of 20th March it would have had a better placing.

I reckon top10 is pretty good in a tough sales week.

according to the coolclarity forums, Black Sweat is the 35th most played video on UK tv, last week it was 23. don't know where it was before then!

Isn't 'Black Sweat' out tomorrow? A bit of airplay and a chart position for the single and maybe 3121 will climb, But I have to say #9 is disappointing.

Woolworths (uks biggest record retailer) arent even stocking black sweat! so things aint looking good for a high chart entry next sunday!! sad

Well I kinda agree - I have been at work all day so watched TOTP to get the album charts and fully expected No.3 or 4 and kinda gutted it was no.9 !

I too felt absolutely ashamed that Journey South were No.1 - it is possibly my age but I still value the charts even though they no longer seem to have the relevance that they had during my youth , I take it as an insult to our society when a track like the godawful Chico gets to no.1 in the singles charts and today as Prince wasn`t no.1 , I felt the same sense of loathing for Journey South who are basically crap Karaoke singers who have had massive exposure through the X Factor.

However I was clearly wrong , their performance tonight on TOTP of Roberta Flacks classic song "The First time Ever I saw Your Face" was astonishing , this is one of my favourite songs and one of those like Stevie`s "Lately" , or Chaka`s "I`m Every Woman" - songs which are so good , so timeless that only the original singer can do it justice.

Be honest , how many times have you heard someone cover these songs and been satisfied ?

Me too , until tonight.

As much as I love 3121 and consider it to be an absolutely classic Prince album and his best in years for me those Geordie Boys ,(whose names elude me , but they will be household names in the next decade or two such is their talent and obvious staying power !) , they have deservedly pipped him to the post - their rendition of Killing Me ... was incredible , it re-wrote and raised the bar for Soul Music.

It was performed live (well they both had pulses !) , if that is an indication of the vocal ability and sheer talent of the duo then their album is a worthy winner of the battle for No.1 and Prince should take heed and work hard at trying to match the gauntlet that has been thrown down by the wonderfully multi talented Journey South.
