Anastasia...what is it about? I just came across a piece of art that is about the canonization of Slave Anastasia. It's about a Brazilian slave who would not give into her master's sexual advances so he would chain her up with a muzzle over her mouth. He would only let her loose if she gave into him. She refused and died of gangrene.
Is Prince's song Anastasia from Love sexy in any way related to this? | |

I think i heard somewhere that it was about a girl he was dating called Anna Fantastic or something like that? Im not that clued up about their relationship but the only picture i have ever seen of her and she looked gorgeous. Anastasia was believed to be the last living member of the Russian royal family. But I can't see any connection to Prince's song. Not with the play on words, anasthesia either, other than a slightly dark, drugged like ambience to the song.
Supposedly the lyrics refer to a bad trip Prince had one night which led him to cancel the Black album. Graycap23, that story about the slave sounds very similar to the part in the Lovesexy tour when Prince is tied to a chair, so you never know, although Superfunkycalifragisexy was being performed at the time. It may be an obscure reference, but then Camille is an obscure reference as well. | |
