"THE DANCE" - THE strongest cut in 3121 - IMO.....

i THINK THAT "THE DANCE" IS 1 OF THE STRONGEST CUT IN THE 3121 CD..
THE SONG BEGINS WITH AN MYSTERIOUS INTRO,,,
THEN U HAVE THE MELODY.. THE LYRICS... AND NEAR THE END.. U HAVE THE SCREAMING-

AN ESSENTIAL PRINCE SONG..... smile .....

Anx	i dig that song to death, both versions - but i'm getting into "love" the most right now...there are a lot of strong songs on the new album, it's hard to say which one's best right now...i'm sure time will tell in the long run.

EvilWhiteMules	I really dig the cheez-synth of Lolita and the sensual/spiritual nature of "the word" Overall, this effort is much better than Musicology.

The Dance is the hotness! I'm not comparing The Dance to this song, but for me towards the end I get the same feeling that I get when I listen to the end of Do Me Baby and The Beautiful Ones. It puts me on a high. That sexual tension, the pleading and the scream. Father God the scream. I've had to get up and stomp my foot after hearing that part. Prince was bringing the heat!

Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

Novabreaker	I think it's the strongest one there too. But because I'm an old, sentimental, romantical hack, who just can't resist good cheese, my favourite would have to be "Te Amo Corazon"

This song is strange man.....but I really dig it. I can't quite put my finger on it. I'll bet Prince put some subliminal message on this song. It's a haunting track.....

Yeah, it's definitely one of the better ones. I think he's at his best when his songs have this touch of sadness.

Yeah, The Dance is hot. I hate everything Prince has put out since Rave, but 3121 is making me a believer he still has a little something left in the tank.

I can be a true friend, or a worthy adversary. The choice is yours.

Agreed.... The last part could be a minute or so longer even, I think it ends a tad prematurely, or could do with a longer 'build-down'.

I never really listened to the song when it was first released, but I presumed the song was about Mani?

It's the best vocal performance on the record. It ends so abruptly though, the emotion is cut shortly unfairly by that *thing* that closes the album.

I've always wondered about that... I tend to think that Prince used to look at NPGMC releases as not quite official 'cast-offs' (which is why the aborted High project got dumped through there...) and the original version of "The Dance" didn't change that opinion. Obviously, he realized there was something to salvage out of this song. It makes me question it's true age, though. We don't know when the original was recorded.

switters	Agreed--"The Dance" is beautiful...awesome tune. "Love" might be one of the strongest cuts... But I think my personal favorite is "The Word"... But you know what? "Incense and Candles" might be the strongest overall Prince cut. Sexy tune. Gorgeous production. Amazing performance. Soulful. Gee, do I love this album or what?!
