She's alright. She has talent in her area. But to be honest I think I'll always prefer Prince's sexier female protegees. Even if their talent is less I just loved how Prince could take a woman and turn her into Vanity, Apollonia, Carmen and Mayte. He really knows what a sexy woman is. I love sexy people. Some people find that shallow but I don't. I think a truly sexy person is quite facinating. biggrin

In other words, you like it when Prince pimps his hoes. biggrin

lol Well that is one way of looking at it I guess.

But what I really loved was that Prince turned these girls into women. Like sex goddesses. He knew what he liked and he knew what men liked and he created his female protegees to be the ultimate fantasy. So many women want to get inside the minds of men and if they just paid attention to what men find sexy they would know.

Besides a sexy woman has so much power. When she walks into the room people take notice. When I was a kid I used to look at Penthouse magazines and Apollonia 6/Vanity 6 and paid attention to what they wore, how they did their hair and makeup, how they acted and thought...oh so that is what men like! lol

Prince schooled me you could say. wink

Instead of focusing on me, and not the content of what I'm saying, and trying to put words in my mouth, try considering the possibility that I'm right.

I'm not saying that there isn't racism in the world, nor am I saying it is absent among Prince fans, sadly. But, you did say this:

You all can pretend the rest of your lives no matter. Make me the bad guy. Whatever. The truth will prevail.

I'm not into all this back and forth minutia. I was referring to the people who starting accusing me of race baiting etc.. But my point which stands. The only real difference from this girl and 99% of Ps other proteges is her complexion and features. Its a non issue. People can qualify their issues however they want but its ridiculous. The fact theres never been this much controversy or people complaining is a witness to the fact.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that for me, I'm just over the idea of Prince having protoges. For as much as he can get her name out there, I think he is holding her back. When was the last time a Prince protoge made it big?

I don't see people complaining as much as I see them not getting the hype. And even if they were to complain, aren't they entitled to an opinion, as much as it may differ from yours or anyone else's? Hell, I like Roxette more than the Beatles. I know they aren't better, but I've never claimed my taste was exemplary.

Has anyone here thought that maybe, just maybe, Prince may be working with Tamar because she is a decent singer/songwriter and he enjoys collaborating with her? We haven't heard her entire album yet, so perhaps the simple yet obvious answer may be all there is to it.

What you're saying is not completely incompatible with what I said earlier. But the fact remains that even if Prince is collaborating with Tamar for purely artistic reasons, he has to overcome two major perceptions displayed prominently on this thread:

1) Tamar is nothing more than Prince's latest talentless f-buddy that he will soon get tired of.

and

2) Prince is incapable of writing and producing a popular or even "good" album for himself much less another artist.

Judging from some of the responses here and elsewhere Prince has a major challenge ahead to change people's minds. And to those saying Tamar needs vocal training, she attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, the same type of school featured in the movie and tv show "Fame". Here is her student profile from the Houston Chronicle website:

http://www.chron.com/cont...ofile.html

I seriously doubt she's a f**ing buddy. Prince is not into BLACK women on a romantic tip. She's talented to me. More talented than a Carmen Electra. Now she was an f**ing buddy, but she was also the typical Prince girl. Even Mani is typical Prince, even though folks dog her, but Tamar isn't.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Prince and Tamar are sexually involved either and I think she's very talented. I'm really excited that Prince is producing another artist again (especially a CREDIBLE one) because I miss the days when Prince would drop a new album along with some protege records. But I may be in the minority because of the two widespread perceptions I listed.

Thank you Moonbeam. There are many words I could use to describe the women mentioned above, but "great" (in reference to their musical capabilities) is definitely not the word I would chose for several of them.

And JonnyApplesauce, by putting "Cat-oh shes great" you somewhat negate your own point, since Cat had a darker complexion too. To make your argument more credible you should have said people didn't like Cat--b/c of her skin tone.

(And btw, you forgot Carmen & Nona. lol )

Actually, he doesn't. Why not? Because "what people are saying here" doesn't amount to jack squizzle.
The true fact of the matter is that Prince doesn't have anything to prove to anyone. In his mind, Tamar's project is already a success. I seriously doubt that some hateration on a message board is going to cause Prince to lose any sleep.

If he wants the project to be a success (hence all the aggressive promotion) then he does. I doubt Universal signed her as a charity act. I'm talking less about the constant white noise of negativity on this and other fan sites than the general public. Tamar could do quite well with neo-soul fans, but if the perception is that she's "just another Prince protege" a lot of people won't even give her a chance.

Yeah I did forget Carmen. Nona was an established artist and a legend's daughter. Cat isnt dark at all. Hes been involved w/ Ananda Lewis, of BET/MTV, Susan from Vanity 6, Patrice Rushen, and several dark brown skinned female musicians but none of it was hyped and they had their own lives and careers apart form him.

I never heard nothin' about him and Patrice being involved. I know he had a crush on her because he has a thing for (some) female musicians, but I think he just liked her I don't know about them being involved or Ananda Lewis. Susan from Vanity 6, I just read about that the first time in the book Possessed, before then, never heard of the two of them cuz who did claim as his girlfriend: Vanity and the same thing with Nona, she even told it in Essence magazine, he supposedly said he wanted to marry Nona, he must've been on dope when he said that and she had to had been at the time to believe that, cuz who did end up marrying huh? confuse I'm still missing your point a bit...if all the women you name above (Lewis, Susan, Patrice??, and even Nona) were already established then why are you using them as comparison to Tamar who is not established? And I don't even what to split hairs with you about shades of darkness (e.g. Nona, Cat, Tamar blahblah)

You know what...forget it...I'm too confused by this whole discussion. Frankly I couldn't care less whether the girl was green with purple polka dots and had one leg...if I like her music I will listen to it. shrug

You’re not coming strong with this lame ass attempt at race bait. You were the first one to mention anything about race or color, check the thread. Few of us even care about Tamar, much less her skin color; I just want to know why Prince is promoting her so hard. One can only wonder about your perceptions on race when you’re willing to interject Coretta Scott King in a music thread about Tamar.

Amen. I never knew it was racist to not get excited about an artist of a particular skin color. shrug

I don't think anyone is saying she sucks...maybe they're just tired of protoges, which is the case for me. I'd be more likely to get into her if she weren't a protoge, in all honesty...

If you review the previous threads, people are saying she sucks and has no talent.

It's okay to not be excited about Tamar and to not like her music, but to flat out say she has no talent? Especially after all those non-singing no talent proteges from the past?? I find that a little suspect.
