The band you saw on SNL may be Tamar's band...The touring band may be a lot different...who knows? I guess we have to wait and see... [Edited 2/5/06 10:53am]

I think its Tamar band too. If Prince replaces John Blackwell, he has to bring back Michael bland or Sheila E. , or at least find anyone 70% as good as John, or else it will suck.

Guys, could it not be the case that Prince is giving Blackwell a break to spend time with his family. Remember, he lost his daughter tragically, and he and his wife recently gave birth again. Maybe it's just the case that Prince understands that the man should be spending quality time with them right now. Just a thought.

i know that there is orgers who are in touch with john. what hapenned??? I figure it's just Prince rotating bands like he's always done Guess it was time for some new players. He probably wasn't kicked out or anything, he just went the way of Bobby Z., Shelia E., Micheal B. etc.. If you will, so will I

blackwell's a big boy now
i think he can make his own decisions he's certainly got enough talent to step out and do his own thing outside of prince's shadow whatever he decides, we know he'll do well, right

I thought it was Tamar's band...it looked like Mr. Hayes was on the Key board. Did you see him at the end when Steve Martin was saying the good byes and there was a guy behind Prince with dreads and a red head band on....that was Mr. Hayes. I highly doubt Prince gave up his band..."Can't nobody touch my band!" I think this was more of a push for Tamar and her band. Just my opininon PRIME [Edited 2/5/06 13:25pm] Prime aka The Kid

Why are you guys always being so harsh if Prince changes his band? I mean what difference does it really make, besides they sounded incredible last night! Everyone has their favorites but essentially it's not the band that makes Prince.....it is Prince who makes the band.

Changing the band is a way of breaking the routine (even if it is not the case this time, who knows, míght have been Tamars band).
I remember I was in shock when the Revolution was fired. And again when some other band members where given the "Go". Fresh blood is good for Prince - he is a creature of the night

there are tons of amazing young musicians who i bet are tripping over each other for a chance to play with prince...as good as john blackwell is (and he's one of my top favorite band members prince has ever had), i can see the worth in bringing in new talent for a new tour...it's a breath of fresh air for prince, and it's a great opportunity for the new musicians. i'm all for whatever...though i do hope john blackwell comes back on the scene every now and then in the future.

Remember that Tamar is supposedly going to be the opening act for Prince's 3121 tour. She'll need her own band b/c as awesome as Prince's band's are they are probably not going to play the opening act + his concert + Aftershows... Here is the line up from last night: Cora Coleman Dunham: Drums Mr. Hayes: Keyboard Joshua Dunham: Bass Mike Scott: Guitar (although only for the last song) Mya & ?? (the Twins): T & A (and tamborines) Tamar: vocals The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Poor Prince. Gets blamed for not having Blackwell. John lost his daughter and then recently had twins so he's just focusing on family life. God bless him.

God ya'll are a bunch of alarmists. Blackwell was at The Fillmore gig w/ his wife watching the show. I highly doubt this is it for him w/ the band. Prince will probably gather the group for tour rehearsals soon w/the same band intact minus a few tweaks ie. Rhonda, just my hunch. He just wanted to road test Tamar's band and have a high profile appearence to hype her album which he has a huge stake in. No less, no more.

C'mon, there are only two drummers with Prince that had any real musical personality.
1. the linn drum machine 2. Sheila everbody else,..... yea great musicians, blah blah blah It's sad when a machine has more musical personality than his real drummers, lol [Edited 2/5/06 21:30pm]
