OKAY!!! if prince can be in the same room as doyle (whom is still married to susannah) he can stand next to alec...

- Hmm...Alec Baldwin was close to Prince on other occasion...Rosie O Donnell or Jay Leno (dont remember) and he didnt seem that uncomfortable...maybe it was just an impression

I don´t remember being so excited over a Prince performance as I am to the ´Fury´ song....it´s perfect!!

Prince looks good, plays great, the lyrics are good and the song is amazing!

Still can´t believe that Prince could bring such a surprise!

I haven't watched the whole show yet, but judging from the "Prince Show" that night, I can understand why Prince didn't bother to take part in the comedy bits.... that sketch was really mediocre, and I guess the only really interesting things about it were Maya Rudolph's breasts... biggrin

However... the performance of "Fury" was incredible! Great guitar solos from Prince, sexy twins and .... raw energy! This is probably the most rock-based song Prince has did since the Chaos & Disorder album.....
Second performance was OK, I guess... Támar has an OK voice and the twins as well, but the best part of it was the funky part in the end.... I always love it when Prince plays funky rhytm guitar....

Thought I'd throw my twocents in:

Don't get me wrong, I think Tamar is nice. She is cute, has a good voice, etc. but I really would have rather heard two PRINCE songs. I don't know what she did to get Prince to dig her so much, but she is one lucky girl to have that man promoting her. Her road to stardom would be much more difficult by herself. And the twins are just there for looks. They cannot sing (I heard them try on Thursday night at Nokia).

Regarding the band...I don't care that they didn't show it cause they aren't that great. It was the same line up from Thursday and I hope that is not the band that will back him for 3121. I think they are Tamar's band. I think they are all great musicians, but they have no flair. For 3121 tour, Prince needs a band that can jam on it, and I don't see that line up delivering.

Ran into someone today and mentioned the SNL show...he said, Yeah I guess Prince has been taking guitar lessons. eek I was like, MF please talk to the hand Prince doesn't need guitar lessons--go listen to Bambi and get back to me. And then he had the audacity to say Prince was channeling Little Richard in that performance? WTF. Hendrix, yes, but Little Richard played piano and Prince didn't play that last night. Some people... disbelief The guy only owns 2 albums: Purple Rain & D&P.

Anyway, can't wait for 3121, seems to be off to a good start.

Like I just posted I don't think that is his band...I think it is Tamar's. (I hope it's not his band.) But here is the line up:

Cora Coleman Dunham: Drums
Mr. Hayes: Keyboard
Joshua Dunham: bass
Mike Scott: guitar (although only for the last song)
Mya & ??: T & A (and tamborines) biggrin
Tamar: vocals

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Even when Steve Martin Dragged Alex. B. down the Hall.. couldn't Prince of been standing there with a guitar and have one of his
CLASSIC Prince looks as they went by. How easy would that of been for Him
to do??-D

I was totally looking for him in the hallway! That should have been him instead of that janitor woman.

He could have at least had a seat in Oprah's audience (the Oprah/james frey skit was the funniest of the night).

Quotes I ran across on the net:

LEGEND

Toward The End of the clip where he plays the solo, He sounds like Eddie Van Halen back in 78-84.

Prince ist back! What a great performance.

yup the old prince is back,

this really is great - very Hendrix - what song is this - "woman scorned" or something? - is this from his new record?

Yeah, that was just awesome. My friend hates that I consider Prince a better guitar player than Clapton smile

The first song by Prince on SNL was probably the greatest singular rock performance on broadcast television since the Beatles premiered on the Ed Sullivan Show. I honestly don't know how Tina Fey and Amy Pohler were able to find it within themselves to go on stage and follow that with fart jokes about Bush.

i just watched "Fury" again -- first time since last night
it's just totally incredible -- MUST be a dream
but no, it really did happen, didn't it?
just amazing, truly amazing
and i loved how he imitated himself at the end
throw down the mic-stand and run (he had to smile at himself)
i was thinking Prince would've shown up somewhere in the skits
and that maybe they'd do a flashback to his first SNL performance
but i'm definitely not disappointed
"Fury" made my night
it's almost as amazing as his solo during 2004's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
since when has Prince been playing guitar THIS good??
damn!!
oh, and i loved the hendrix-style vox too
very cool
man, there was kick-ass guitar all over that song!!
what more can we ask for?
what more will he give?
3121, don't ya wanna come?
oh yeah
[Edited 2/5/06 14:28pm]

nod he totally blew me away! 'fury' is a very cool number. and now i AM looking forward to 3121.
.
.
.long as i don't have to scream eek lol

I Tivo'd the show and proceeded to watch both
performances over and over again. I won't argue
influential relevance, or whether the back-up singers
were good or not, or whether this is a return to form.
Ultimately, if you are a fan of Prince, these
last two years have been amazing. And the man is
smart. Just like the Grammies ushering(no pun) in
Musicology, this performance on SNL will help kick start
3121. Come on now! That guitar work on Fury?!!
The man still has it.
Go Prince! And any haters out there - that's ok,
I won't be missing you when I work up my sweat and
lose my voice during the upcoming tour. Stay home!
We don't need you.

Bravo!

Everyone should have peeped the SNL appearance:

[Bootleggage snip no no no! - luv4u]
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Great performances but P should have come out for the Prince show kind of like when Mick Jagger came out when Jimmy played him a few year's back. Not sure why Prince can't be accessible like other Musicians.

I'm amazed at just how much of this thread has been dedicated more to discussing a skit that he didn't even appear on than the actual performances themselves! Whatever keeps you guys happy I guess confuse

And that wasn't even that funny. There were a few chuckles, but it was more annoying than anything.

I think "The Prince Show" is old.. I mean Beyonce and Prince..
that was 2 years ago! Give it up.. Might of been funny once.....

I agree but Prince set himself up for that by going beneath himself and performing with someone like her in the first place. For a lot of non-Prince fans, especially the younger ones, this is how they are going to remember him from now on....with her.

-----
The Grammie performance with Beyonce was done because they were pairing old stars with new performers. That was the concept of the show. How would it have looked it P refused to perform with Beyonce. I don't care for Beyonce but, it is obvious that she is not going away anytime soon so it made since for P to do it and get the exposure he needed at the time.

I can't understand why you guys don't get this.
