So by that mindset, if they ('they' being the purple cop) had come here and and asked us for an orgers details or face legal action risking being shut down, THEN it would be ok? The rules are there to read, plain and simple - and they are there for a reason. Thing is, judging by the sheer volume of moderation on this site each day it's pretty obvious that most people have never bothered reading through them properly.

Seems to me like a lot of this boils down to a case of 'cutting your nose off to spite your face' - something both the 'release it!' and the 'it's his!' camps are equally party to. This topic is in serious danger of going into lockdown real soon, as pretty much everything that needs to be said has been already. Opinions are like a**holes - everybody's got one.

At the end of the day, this discussion is mute - it's been dissected time and time again, and we're never any closer to an answer or viable alternative. The little purple fella is now in a position in his career where he answers to nobody but himself. That's the way it is, and that's the way it's gonna stay.

The Org has recieved a pretty bad rap these past few years, and many are quick enough to point blame everywhere else but upon their own doorstep. With heated discussions like this one, it's not hard to see why The Org has that reputation. As mods, WE can only do so much - it's actually YOU GUYS that make up the public face of 'The Org', it's YOU GUYS that make it what it is. Some of you would do well to stop and ponder upon that for awhile instead of feeding into it.

Some may not agree with what I've expressed here - and that's totally fine with me - that's the way of the world. But if it bothers any of you to the extent of some of the vitriol i've seen expressed on this thread to fellow Orgers, then hey - the exit's where you came in...

OK.

Since you bothered to quote ME in your blast, I hope I am at the very least excused from your accusations of vitriol, as well as the directions to the door. Dig up my history trail, and you'll be hard pressed to find anything that meets the definition of rude, previously banned members not withstanding. If you (or any other mod - or member for that matter) thought someone was violating The Rules, then ban (or warn) the offending party, delete the thead, explain why and be done with it.

You reference "vitriolic" speech and then angrily point you finger at the door, admonish our "asshole" opinions and then end with "my 2 cents", as if THAT wasn't just another opinion.

One of, if not the main reason I come here and post is due to the freedom we're afforded - the variance of opinion and the eclectisism of the whole thing. when I first discovered this place, it was like walking into a party where you didn't know anyone, but instantly realized that you belonged and would have a good time. I met people here INCLUDING MY SOON-To-BE-WIFE- that I never would have met otherwise. When I attended the ONA concerts, people knew me from my org name. I felt a sense of community, and I didn't have to worship everything prince does, eschew profanity, worship God, or mail my "Small Club" CD to Minneapolis in order to feel that way.

Anyway, if shit steps out of bounds, then deal with it. I understand your sensitvity around the matter, but I hardly think that "blame the fans" sums it up in any way that is virtuous or reasonable. After all, without US, there is no Prince.org, or, for that matter, a Prince, and without Prince, or Prince.org, there is no Us. It's what some call a "symbiotic relationship", which is nothing more than the natural bond of a Performer and His Audience....There isn't one without the other.

If Prince makes a sound in the forest, and no one is ther to record it, is it still a bootleg?

I MET MY WIFE in no small part due to Prince's music and THIS WEBSITE, so think about what it means to be so threatened by a rediculous idea like SHARING something beautiful - which has really been the only "crime" here. Why are we (fans) made to feel like drug pushers and miscreants for sharing something that we find extrordinary in its beauty? It's rediculous on its face.

Sometimes it's tough being a Prince fan.

Really?

A, B, C.

You admit publicly to helping finance the bootleg industry for profit, yet admonish someone who takes the time to share FOR FREE the same art that you paid for illegally. I guess your ill-gotten gain is only cool if you can keep it for yourself?

It's only a crime if you don't get caught?

There is nothing Wrong happening here. Sharing is good. If you want to take into the orgnote section, that's cool. Remember, I have no problem with ANY of it, and I find it rediculous that we have to be afraid of our own shadows for SHARING ART. I have no issue with you personally, but just because you choose to keep your collection PRIVATE doesn't absolve you of anything, any more than the guy who smokes a joint in his home is any more guilty than the fellow that shares it at a party. If Prince wants to, let him sue ME for using his symbol as an avatar on another message board.

Peace, and be wild.

I'll take you at your word on that. So you SHARED the stuff you have, or someone SHARED it with you, but it came form SOMEWHERE. Go back to my joint reference - if you copped your weed for free, shared it with everyone else, and enjoyed the buzz, are you more innocent than the guy that supplied it to you?

O.k., so it seems that this website really means something to you. Don't you think that could be a reason that you also want it to exist in the future??? (I just assume you don't say "it served me, I'm done with it", because that's not my impression of you.)

If prince.org becomes a playground for open bootleg sharing, what do you think how long it takes the purple special task force and their letter-writing lawyer bunch to get this site into real trouble? You can be fine then, of course, it's Ben who has to pay the bill in the end...

The forum rules actually keep this site active - if we stick to them, there's no way in the world to shut this forum down.

"Sharing" may be a fine thing - BUT JUST DO IT IN THE RIGHT WAY!!!

This may be hard to get at a first glance, but if you actually accept the minor restrictions set by those rules, IT KEEPS YOUR FREEDOM!!! Mmmmkay? biggrin

This really annoys me! I'm the one who uploaded "Electric Intercourse" and "Computer Blue," not to make money or profit in any way but just to share it cuz I knew this stuff was the bomb and what does this idiot and his lawyers do? I got my freakin' youtube account permanently disabled cuz of this bonehead (Prince). This is a perfect example of why Prince has been slipping for so long. It ain't like this shit is ever gonna see the light of day. The only time it'll ever get released is long after Prince is dead and some other (much smarter) guys are profiting from it. Look on youtube and you will find bad ass shit from most artist....artist who are smart enough to realize that this helps them....Everyone who saw these clips became more of a fan of Prince because of it. Smart move Prince! And if he ever does decide to release it, all he ever has to do is add a few bonus interviews and all the people that have the bootleg will probably buy the official release as well. The times have changed and Prince has not adapted well imo (in some ways yes but in some ways he's still lagging behind).

I'm probably gonna do a horrible job of explaining this but I know and have read that you should not stop the flow of energy in your life and I feel that by hogging up all this great material (bootleg videos, songs, etc) and stopping the flow of it, Prince is hurting himself. Now because my account is disabled I have to reupload all the other non-Prince stuff I uploaded....like Sananda Maitreya (aka TTD)...Now THERE is an artist that understands the power of the internet!!!!!

I was a big fan of Prince for a long time and then somewhere around the late 90's I really stopped being a fan because he was releasing so much wack music and doing so many idiotic things (both musical and non-musical)....I had become a hardcore fan once again in the last 6-8 months but with this "Te Amo Corazon" b.s. and now this jackass move I'm starting to lose my interest again....If "3121" ends up being a piece of crap (and it wouldn't surprise me) I think once again Prince will be relegated to the back of my playlist. I'll always admire the Prince of old but in many ways I have just had it with this guy! Sorry for the rant but this shit really pissed me off!

Emilio,I just wanted to thank you for posting those videos on YouTube.I had never seen them before and I enjoyed it tremendously.Don't let Prince's latest fucked-up behavior bother you lol I'm disappointed too,but at least there is alot of great footage on YouTube by other artists. We'll just have to accept the fact that Prince is a musical genuis, but also a prick.

I think YOU'RE kind of missing the point it to be honest, especially if your main is argument is simply to be more sneaky ("clandestine") about it. I never saw a lot of those clips and was elated that I had the chance to. Am I selfish in some way?

I can't get past the idea that shit like this does Prince more harm than good, and is in the end much ado about nothing from his end. If he's as business savvy and as smart as he seems, he can use this hunger for rare material to his advantage. Although I agree with you that of course he has THE RIGHT to deal with his material as he pleases, that doesn't preclude me from questioning the wisdom of his decisions - or from wondering why he'd want to deny his most ardent and loyal fans nothing less than the opportunity to appreciate his art. The Grateful Dead used to set up soundboards so fans could trade recordings of shows. They had exactly ONE top-ten hit, yet were consistently among the highest grossing concert tours for over 25 years, and undeniably claimed the most loyal fan base in music over this time. Yet their FANS still bought their records in droves.

I'll gladly fork over my hard-earned dough to Prince for gems like the stuff emilio offered up (for free) whenever Prince decides he wants some money for the stuff. Or is everyone happy to buy moon earwraps NPG hoodies?

He HAS every right in the world, but I have the right to think he's foolish.

Thanks for the rare glimpse(s) emilio.

Just lurking here, but I'm going to have to agree with Herb4 on this one. Especially about the moon earwraps and hoodies part. lol

well, i didn't say my thought was realistic. i mean, i wish we could plant trees that bore the fruit of prince soundboard recordings. we could just pluck 'em down and listen to 'em whenever we felt a little peckish. wouldn't that be nice? we could bake a nice bootleg pie and win a blue ribbon at the county fair.
