forthcoming birthday+radio+celebrities thoughts and stories on Prince

Hi, me and my Prince friends here in Poland going to air on the radio some Prince music because of his forthcoming birthday. We want to add some celebrities thoughts and stories on Prince. Some of them are below, could you help to find more? Any help appreciated smile

Jermaine Dupri, producer
"I remember when I was 8, Prince was opening for Rick James, and my mother was getting baptized, but she had to see Prince, so we left church early so my mom could see him. I didn't even know who he was, but she made sure that I did."

Gwen Stefani, singer
"[No Doubt] was playing in Minneapolis, and I looked out from the stage at the soundboard, and I could see this silhouette of Prince watching me. I was like, 'Fuck!' because I was having a really bad show. So he invites us to come to Paisley Park afterward, and we're just tripping. Everything's Prince—the carpet's Prince, the wall is Prince, it's this crazy magical place. There's a club there that he plays sometimes, and he comes gliding down in his velour suit, totally made up beautifully. Then he plays for like three hours! He's like, 'Hey, you guys want to go jam with me?' It was just this magical experience. And he gave it to us, you know? He knew that he was a big inspiration to us."

Usher, showman
"I saw him perform in New York City, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Though I wasn't young enough to listen to his music when it first came out—or understand it!—it was still as if it was the first time he'd ever performed it for me. The reason I say 'for me' is that he's able to make his audience feel personal, like he's performing to them. And that's talent. That's truly what entertainment is about."

Eric Jerome Dickey, chick-lit author
"Watching him rock the house in the Louisiana Superdome at Essence Festival '04 was like a revival at the purple gates of heaven. His talent is infinite, and his music timeless. And his persona? If Morris Day is cool, then Prince is frozen."

Carmen Electra, temptress-spokesmodel
"I used to dance at Glam Slam, Prince's club in Los Angeles. Our choreographer would always do a couple of Prince songs for every show. My favorite songs to dance to were 'Peach' and 'Pussy Control.' There's so much emotion in his songs. He just makes you feel. But there's nothing like seeing him live. I was his opening act on his Diamonds and Pearls tour in Europe in the early '90s. He's brilliant. He's just an amazing performer, and he taught me so much by just watching him onstage."

Fred Armisen, Saturday Night Live cast member, Prince impersonator
"When I saw him on the Lovesexy Tour, he came out driving a Thunderbird, then got out of the car and launched into 'Erotic City.' Immediately, he's down on all fours under this woman, circling around her. That's the way to make an entrance! Anyone else would have come out with their guitar and yelled, 'What's up, everybody?' He believes in a party; he believes in music as a social event. He's got a great sense of humor, too. He's a little bit like Clara Bow and Charlie Chaplin. I saw him in Chicago, and he was like, [in a low murmur] 'Does anyone have a place I can stay tonight? Eat some Häagen-Dazs, watch some HBO?' And all these women went crazy: 'Stay with me!' That's better than any rock banter."

Kurt Loder, MTV elder statesmen
"Prince has always had an eye on the sky. Some years ago, I was backstage with him at a show in Paris, listening to a tape of some new songs he was playing on a pink boom box. The stuff sounded...well, what do you think? It sounded great. I told him this, and I swear he lowered his eyes and said, 'I'm just taking dictation.'"

Tommy Mottola, chairman and CEO of Casablanca Music
"Seeing Prince on his recent tour was the consummate experience for me. The music was exceptionally outstanding. His range, versatility, and true talent never shined more. I equate the performance and his talent to two of my favorite idols of all time, Frank Sinatra and Elvis. It was that moving an experience for me, and it made me feel good to be in the music business, which I haven't felt in a long time."

Read through this online feature about Prince, it spans his whole carrer and has loads of quotes about him from various people: friends, family, band members, others who worked with him, etc. Note you might have to fill out a free registration to view the article, but it's well worth the effort.
