Have you seen the first round? I based this simply on the nominations of those who chose to participate. If it were up to me, Controversy would be in there too...biggrin

I have been going back and listening to Prince's 80's stuff now that the commercialism and radio play has died out from memory. I forgot how great his older stuff was.

Consequently, my top three (this week)

1.Sign O The Times
2.Purple Rain (You have to admit we take this album for granted)
3.Parade, no Lovesexy, no Parade.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I understood and missed the first round...would my vote have made a difference?

On another serious note... I can never pick the best album, song or even choose between 2 albums. When I made up my mind, other songs or tracks of other album(s) start playing with my mind... this week Controversy just happens to be in my player all the time!

TRC made it 2 round 2-- woohoo!!!

My top 3 r:
1. TRC- an instant Prince classic. The ONA tour shows how great these songs are live!!!
2. Sign O' The Times- demonstrates Prince's varying musical styes-- he's a genius!!!
3. Purple Rain- the greatest soundtrack 2 a great rock movie!!! (i'm biased, of course).

My top 3 remain Lovesexy, 1999 and Sign o' the Times[/quote]
Prince appeared on the scene as a champion of outcast originality. He demonstrated for a new generation the beauty of true style and unconstrained personality, the complexity of the interplay among love and God and sexuality and -- most important -- the essentially multiracial nature of rock & roll music. He is an artist capable of altering popular consciousness in concrete ways, but Sign o' the Times seems unlikely to alter anything more profound than the face of the hit parade. Nothing wrong with that, but it's rather like the story about Jesus feeding the multitudes with miraculous loaves and fishes. Such fundamental nourishment is always appreciated. But when a full-blown feast is so obviously within Prince's capabilities, one wonders: Why doesn't he go for it?
