adore - most overrated prince song??

silly question of course, cause obviously it's not. but what it is about this song that does it?
to me it is probably one of the finest love songs i have ever heard. it has a splendid melody, a gorgious vibe to it, beautiful organ, lovely horns, a lyric that sums up everything that love is all about. the progression in the song, the shift from slow ballad to more soul-driven slow-funk jam is amazing and absolutely outstanding. the bass in the song is so smooth and melodic, and god does he not sing this song in a terrific manner.....

does adore do it for you? and why?

I don't like it. It has too much of a RB sound although I like RB. It is just when I listen to Prince I want to feel like a rebel, if I want that type of RB I can listen to The Commodores or Heatwave. To me Adore fills a space that is already crowded. Beautiful Ones, Shhh!!!, International Lover, and I hate U is in a class by itself. No one can do a love song with those hard rock guitar riffs, or the explicit sexuality yet keep it sensitive and romantic like Prince. Anybody can do the straight RB ballad that Adore is. That is my 2 cents for what it is worth.

it's the music and "feel" more than the lyrics for me - the melody is just gorgeous and the structure of the song is great. in terms of love song lyrics, I think he did it better on forever in my life and best on If I was Ur Girlfriend (my all time favourite Prince track).

which just shows how good the sott album really is.

And yet all we get is "My Boo"? Please. I respectfully disagree 1000 percent.
If it's so easy, folks everywhere would be doing it. There have been many imitators, but they make themselves look silly every time.

to those who answer this question "yes," i commend this for careful reading. I was gonna speak for most orgers but it appears a ton of people need this book.

Adore...the best love song from a man who has had a ton of them. Lyrically perfect, musically gifted...this song is a journey to the center of love, sex, and eveything else that bonds one person to another. The aural equivalent of a baptism.

In other words, it doesn't suck.

now see that's where i have to agree to disagree with you. Listen to the organ. Listen to the way he goes into drive at the end. Listen when the angels come in. This isn't your run of the mill R&B ballad. Done in the classic style of Prince, he took it to a whole nother level. You could live to be 999 years old and you will never hear another song quite like ADORE. Nevermind the genius line, "If God one day struck me blind your beauty I'd still see". Hmm Hmm Mmm. I'm bout to cry lol

You summed it up perfectly. Anyone who is or ever has been in love can understand how truly breathtaking and stunning this song is. It's romantic heaven, completely full of charm.

Nope, I think Adore deserves as much praise as it gets. Perfect lyrics, the music captures the mood to a T, and the production is top-notch. It took awhile to grow on me, although I put that down to the shoddy edit that's on Hits/B-Sides.

Anastesia, on the other hand, is completely and totally overrated. :ducks: wink smile

See.....I have always LOVED and ADORED razz this song....BUT I did not truly understand how to appreciate it until I found REAL love in my love...I know that may sound cheesy or corny, but seriously, it's true....I mean the lyrics and the song are just amazing, but then if you can also compare it to something happening in your own life, it becomes and experience.
I found that kind of love in my life 5 months ago and this song just totally outlines in detail just how I feel. And I had my partner listen to it, and he is not that familiar with Prince as such, and he cried!!!!!
He was SO TOUCHED by the lyrics, music, but also the fact that it just symbolised how he felt inside and a month ago, he sang the whole song for me, ACAPELLA (he has an amazing voice) and I can tell you.....that was AMAZING!
I always wanted a guy who could understand and appreciate Prince songs....and this guy is slowly getting into Prince and having him sing the songs to me....well, I ain't gona complain.....whatever song it is! flower

If I didn't feel this song when I was with her, I knew she wasn't the one. Saved me a lot of wasted time in some relationships that I might not have realized were going nowhere. I found the one I Adore and she is Still the One. I have an altered version I sing to my 7 year old when we listen in the car. It's one of the few times she overlooks the fact that I can't sing.

Luv is 2 weak 2 dfine how much I Adore my child.
