In american dollars I paid $19.82 yes the bridge cost $2.50 and the tunnel back $2.50

I'm familiar with that tunnel. sigh I can picture it now:

U.S. Customs agent: Citizenship?

Me: United States.

U.S. Customs agent: Hmmm, you sound Canadian. Let me see your proof of citizenship.

Me: (hands over U.S. passport)

U.S. Customs agent: (looks through passport and hands it back) So what were you doing in Canada?

Me: I bought a DVD.

U.S. Customs agent: Let me see it.

Me: (hands over SOTT DVD)

U.S. Customs agent: You went to Canada just to buy a DVD? A Prince DVD?! That skinny mother... uh, nevermind.

Me: Well, it's not available in the U.S.

U.S. Customs agent: (hands back SOTT DVD) I see. Go pull over there for secondary inspection.

Me: (pulls over and thinks, "Next time I'll just order it from Amazon.ca.")

One time I got sent to secondary, and they forced me to go into a building so I couldn't watch them do the car search. Of course, they found nothing illegal in my car, and I was eventually allowed to re-enter the U.S. and proceed on my way.

When I got to my hotel in Novi, Michigan (less than an hour away), I unpacked my trunk and discovered that the U.S. Customs agents had broken two of the plastic fasteners that held the trunk interior panels to the body. Instead of telling me what they'd done, they just repacked my trunk and sent me on my way, knowing that I wouldn't discover the damage until after I left Customs. I know that I didn't break the fasteners because I had to remove and reinsert them all just a few months ago when I wired up the car for satellite radio. (The fasteners were these two-piece things that easily pop out if you know what to do, but they'd break if you try to pry them out by brute force.)

Fortunately, I had a colleague who used to work for Customs, and he let me in on a little secret: all damage claims against Customs are processed at a discreet office in Indianapolis, where, by coincidence, I just happened to live at the time. So I served Customs at that location with a tort claim notice for about $4.50. (I bought the replacement parts from the dealer and fixed the car myself.)

Customs agreed to pay the claim. I was hoping to get a check, which I intended to frame, but instead I got this voucher that required me to give Customs my bank routing and account numbers. No way was I going to do that. sad

In the end, even though I spent like $20 (not including my time) to win my $4.50 claim, I felt it was a victory for the "little guy" and a reminder to the feds that they are accountable to the citizens.

With all that said, I have never been hassled by Canadian Customs. Less than one year after 9/11, I got into Canada at Niagara Falls with no ID or citizenships papers whatsoever. It went like this:

Canadian Customs agent: Where do you live?

Me: Indianapolis, Indiana.

Canadian Customs agent: Where are you going?

Me: Detroit, Michigan.

Canadian Customs agent: So you're just passing through Canada?

Me: Yes.

Canadian Customs agent: Okay. Have a nice day.

canada thumbs up!

1st -- Because Alliance Atlantis is a Canadian Company, They own Odeon Films (the distributor of the film) You should read though my posts on this thread because I have posted some infofmation on this subject.

2nd -- It is an official release.

This is possibly my favourite thread here, EVER...

But, I do have a few questions...

    Who is the distributor?
What is the film transfer like?
    Is it widescreen?
What is the sound mix like. Is it 5.1 and does it use all the speakers?
Where do the b vox and crowd noise sit in the mix?
Is it the old soundtrack or has it been remastered?
I love the guitar solo in "I Could Never...". How does it sound?
Are there any points or tracks where the sound really stands out?
How clear is the video transfer and are the wide shots any good?
Do you think the guys who did this were Prince fans?
    Are there any bonus features?
Should I keep my VHS copy anyway?
    Where can I buy it?

Hope you can help...

It's amazing. The film transfer is clean and clear, free of any blemishes. Widescreen is ehanced for 16x9 TV's. The dolby digital 5.1 is powerful and well balanced through out the film. The music is clear and uses the surround speakers (front, center, rear) actively. Prince guitar track is awesome, utilizing all of the speakers. The background vocals and crowd noise mainly reside within the rear surrounds.

The sound has been remastered and is beyond any of my expections. The guitar solo during I Could Never Take the Place of your Man is truly wonderful and is almost like I have never heard it before.

The soundtrack really shines during the title track. I knew it was going to be good as the giutar kicks in as Prince and Cat run to the stage. The remastering process Demonstrates its excellence thoughout the film. It is outstanding during Housequake and Hot Thing , not to mention Forever in My Life.

The video transfer is stunning. It is crystal clear. The colors are sharp and the contrast is perfect. The widescreen is really effective and stunningly vivid, the wide shots are wonderful. It is like watching a different film.

The team that remastered the film for DVD must be real fans because they seemed to have taken great care in preparing this transfer. This is how a DVD transfer should be done.

There are no extras or bonus features on the disc.

This DVD is outstanding, you will throw away your VHS copy if you buy it.
It is avaliable here www.amazon.ca if you want further details.

Got mine on Friday - great!

BTW, apparently U Got The Look has always been of a lesser visual quality than the rest of the film:

(From a 1987 NY Times review)
"Among the highlights of the show are the long version of ''Forever in My Life'' and the playful ''U Got the Look,'' performed with Sheena Easton and photographed somewhat more grainily than the rest of the footage. The film was obviously assembled in a hurry, and its seams show. But its energy never flags."

The difference in quality seen in the U Got The Look segment comes from the fact that it was pulled from the promo video. They needed the clip for the film for some reason, so they took the interlaced video footage and transfered it to film stock.

When I get my copy, no doubt I'm gonna wear it out. I freakin' love this concert, but I'm still very pissed that he didn't perform Adore for this joint. One of the best song ever written and it's not on there. Unbelievable. With that said, it's still a kick ass show. A must have not just for Prince fans, but anyone that considers themselves a fan of good music.

I find it hard to believe that it takes Amazon 4-6 weeks to acquire a shipment of SOTT DVDs. I hope that the dvds will be sent within the next 2 weeks. If not, I can have one of my trading contacts up north score a copy for me.
I am surprised that www.cdplus.com doesn't have the SOTT DVD, I have ordered Canadian exclusive DVDs from them before, with no problems. In fact I looked for the SOTT DVD at cdplus.com site before I went over to Amazon.
