I love it. Although it would be nice if they put the other songs on the soundtrack that are missing like Morris's stuff.

There's some truly classic stuff on there but it isn't my favorite by a long chalk. I prefer the more experimental stuff like Parade or Sign O The Times.

It's a great album but it's not my favorite. "1999" is my favorite and "Purple Rain" sounds like a weaker version of it.

In my opinion, "Purple Rain" is Prince's last "great" album. All the albums that have followed it have only been "good" albums.

it was my favorite for a long time, mainly because i thought - and still think - every song on there is a perfect pop/rock song. after so many years, though, i've gotten really really really burnt out on it...these days, i'd say my favorite is either SOTT or Parade (with the "Come" album a very close second).

As I said before, the only thing wrong with the album is that familiarity breeds contempt. And everybody is familiar with PR more than any other album by default of mainstream popularity.

I've said it over and over again...the perfect album.
Definately my favorite thumbs up!

It's not only Princes best album, but the best album of all time.

Closely followed by...

Lovesexy
Dirty Mind

The Rainbow Children
etc
etc
etc.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I think that Purple Rain is Prince's most listenable LP to casual and non-fanatic fans, thus it would be their favorite. My love for Prince music has always been it's ability to intergrate and wallow in diverse sounds. This being said I would always say SOTT and Parade are my favorite LPs with TRC and 1999 following...but to each his own it's all good u know, what ever U like and such..... wink

As I dug deeper into his resume, it sank down my list and was replaced by the likes of Sign 'O' the Times, Lovesexy, Parade, Dirty Mind and ATWIAD.

Yes. My absolute favorite. Tightly edited. Experimental for the time. A great mix of songs. The movie just put it over the top, but the album is one of the all-time greatest pop albums of all time.

It's far and away the best thing he's done.

I love his later work. I love Parade. I like Sign of the Times. I can play certain tunes on 1999 until the sun comes up.

But Purple Rain had It. The perfect combination of material, time, and the Spirits that properly make it a Blockbuster album.

Is it me or do people think that Purple Rain just raised Prince's skill to another level? Listen to 1999--while brilliant in many respects, it lacks the production or sound or daring of his post-Purple Rain work. 1999 is the best of the pre-Revolution work. For You, Controversy, Dirty Mind, not bad, but not great. Not Prince great.

Purple Rain just seemed to be the greatest leap in an artist's sound in such a short amount of time. What do you guys think accounts for the differences? Better studios? Wendy and Lisa? Prince's Dad? What makes Purple Rain such a different sounding album from the ones that preceded it?
