Wanda Sykes' new book features Prince

Comedian Wanda Sykes has a new book out, Yeah, I Said It. It features several commentaries on any and everything. She has one about Prince called "Purple Pain." She comments on how she loves Prince but he needs to realize his fan base is over 30 and can't jam all night like he can (and we used too:) Check out the book. It's a good read.

[i] Purple Pain

"School is in and Prince is the teacher, baby. I love Prince. I stayed with him through the name changes and everything. I love that little sexy bastard. He is a genius. I am so excited he is back. I have something to look forward to musically. When he opened the Grammys with Beyonce, I was right there in front of my TV with the Tivo rolling. That was just a preview to what was to come since I had tickets to see him live at the House of Blues later that night. I was downright giddy.

The show didn't start until a little after midnight but that was cool. I was ready for some DMSR. P was amazing as ususal. I've seen him live about 7 or 8 times. His band was tight!!!! There were all these candles and drapes onstage. It was sexy as hell. After 2 hours, P was still going strong, we were jammin' our butts off. Then it dawned on me that P needs to recognize that the bulk of his fans are over 30. Some time after 2 in the morning, I started checking out the crowd; everybody was leaning on something, the wall, the bar, the stage, a rail, each other. There were people holding their shoes and fanning themselves. We were tired but having a ball.

After another hour passed, my friend Alyson said, "If that purple m'f' plays one mo song, I'm gonna go onstage and blow those drippy-a** candles out myself." We were hurting. I'm ashamed to say but we stared wishing evil s*** on him because we are die-hard fans. I wasn't about to leave before the show was over. So were were like:

"Oh God, please break his boot heel."
"Take his voice, Lord."
"Shock him, Father, not enough to hurt him, just enough to make him stop."
"Earthquake, something, this is California"
"Fire, not one of thos Great White fires, just some smoke to close the place down."

I think his Royal Badness finally caught on that we don't have it in us to party as long as he can and around 3:30a.m. he finally said goodnite. That was probably the best night of my life.

Of course, on the way home, Alyson and I talked about how we would never f*** Prince, because he wouldn't know when to stop."

That was some funny shit!

Y'know...my girlfriend and I were saying this exact same thing when we saw him in Chicago this summer. We are in our mid-30s and have been to a lot of concerts...but this last Prince concert was the first one that made us realize that we are getting old. By the intermission we both were sweating our asses off and thankful as hell that we could sit down for a bit. Then of course the guy comes back and we're on our feet fpr the rest of the show, jammin our asses off and by the time he was closing with Purple Rain...my girlfriend yelled, "WHEN THE HELL IS HE GONNA STOP!! I'M TIRED!". When we got home...we both passed out on the couch and woke up SORE! From a friggin concert!

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I agree with Wanda 100%. I can't remember how many shows I've been to in the last few years where I was tired as hell. The JOTY shows were especially tiring since the set lists were so boring. The Musicology tour were incredible however, even though I was dead at the end of the shows. The ONA shows was phenomenal but I was dead at the end again!

IT's a curse..., :smile)

I love Wanda Sykes. What she says is so funny cause it's true. I guess Prince doesn't realize we're not all in the great shape that he's in.

Too funny...Wanda is hysterical...I am an older (more mature) fan...and when I left the Musicology concerts...I thought I had died. I was sweaty, hot, hips hurt, and couldn't breath...AND I thought I had gone to heaven!!!!! lol
