Some of Prince's hip hop trax are amazing. Now and Days of Wild are 2 of his best. I like his upbeat, danceable stuff, and I also love the slow jams, everything from Crazy You to Mellow.

What about:

'mock opera' - Wedding Feast
'pomp rock' - e.g.3 Chains / Strays of the World
'nursery rhymes' - e.g.A Place In Heaven / My Little Pill
'Broadway musical types' - e.g. Graffiti Bridge
'instrumental scores' - Karmasutra
'latino' - e.g. sleep around

ok - none of them get my vote - but some of the work could be categorised in this way.

I really enjoy "The Man" when he does pop songs. They're always bouncy and quirky and sound happy and sunny. Y'know?
"Neon Telephone"
"It's A Wonderful Day"
"Teacher, Teacher"
"Walk Don't Walk"
"Martika's Kitchen"
"Good Love"

I have to agree with Prettymansson, I LOVE FUNK! I think it's about time he releases an all-funk album, that would be, well, funky! But I dig his piano stuf as well...
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

The thing I like most about Prince is the mix of all the styles. The fact that he doesn't sound best in one genre makes him what he is.

The one that makes me smile the most is pop...or dirty funk!

I love it most when he spins backwards twirling on his head, playing 26 instruments at once in a diatonic blues based on his Baroque interpretations of LArry Graham's hits, but translated to the original Sanskrit
