"Eric, shut the fuck up"

Ha, ha, just seen the Detroit '86 dvd for the first time, the bit where Eric Leeds takes an extended solo, and Prince cues the band back in with a deadpan "Eric, shut the fuck up". Great P moment, reminds me of him 'knocking out' Tommy during P Control at the vh1's, and pushing Miko out of the way of the mic during "Whe u were mine" on Lovesy 88 (despite the fact that Miko had on a radio mic, dumbass!)

Woulda killed to see P on the Parade tour, it is just on another level.

I LOVE Life Can Be So Nice from that video!!
That close up shot when Eric is rockin that solo
and Prince slows the tempo little by little
signaling the band with his hand headbang
then he walks away from Eric placing a rose
in the open end of the sax!
bow what a show!

It was staged... he did it every show as part of the Prince – Cat – Miko triangle that was going on during the show.

i met eric back in '91 when he was on tour 4 times squared @ peabody's down under in cleveland. i asked eric about that and he said 'eric shut the fuck up' was staged. another funny side note about meeting him, i asked him about my favorite bootleg "if u break my heart 1 more time" and he had a puzzled look on his face..a few seconds later he said "ohhhhh, u mean last heart". he was sooooo cool.

From all accounts, and based on the chat in NPGMC from a couple years back, Eric is an extremely laidback, friendly guy. Shit, one of my favorite Orgers actually asked him to autograph a picture to TheBlueAngel for me, and he did it!!!

He was my inspiration when I was 10/11 or so in terms of becoming a musician...well, I had already been playing piano for years by then, but I wouldn't have chosen a saxophone if not for Eric, and I SHO wouldn't have felt as sexy playing it.

Prince has great saxophonists with him now, but damn if I don't miss Eric's unique sound.....

I can remember Prince doing that all the way back to the "Dirty Mind/Controversy" era. On "Let's Work", Dez would shove Prince down on the floor and do a guitar solo. When he finished Prince would shove him out of the way and take over the microphone. I think I saw Andre shove Prince on the "Uptown" video too.

I also remember Prince doing "Purple Rain" on the American Music Awards in 1985 and he kicked the microphone stand over. And another time on the Arsenio Hall Show in 1991 when he performed "Kiss"...he screamed, picked up the microphone stand, and threw it behind him....you could hear the damned thing come crashing down behind him. And the second time he appeared on Arsenio, he set some newspaper headlines on fire and just walked the fuck off.

That's what I love about Prince, he not only performs but carries himself with attitude from Hell. He is truly BAD!
