My all-time favorite Prince award show performance would have to be "Sign O The Times"/"Play In The Sunshine" at the MTV Awards. Complete with Sheila's drumline.

Hope he rocks a similar kinda energy on Sunday.

Go Prince, GO!

I've gotta say, considering that the general public hasn't heard from Prince since 1995 or so, it's a HUGE win for him to get on the Grammies. Regardless of being nominated for best instrumental album, he's got no label pushing to get him on the show, no visible PR firm doing work for him, an official website that you can't even get into without joining for $25, and he still gets high billing. Pretty amazing.

OH yeah. That's my favorite award show moment, bar none. Wish I had a better copy of it than my 16-year-old VHS tape...but unfortunately MTV only seems to remember the assless pants from 1991 when they replay stuff from old VMAs.

Okay, this is how I'd like to see it go down...

Start off w/ the band very subdued...playing something from N.E.W.S. Do that for about 20-30 seconds, maybe up to a couple of minutes, depending on how much time they have...then...

WHAM...right into something mindblowing. Just completely uncork and throw it down like only Prince can.

You see, he's there 'cause he's nominated for N.E.W.S., so he's gotta drop a bit of that, but that doesn't mean he's gotta stay there the entire time.

Just my twocents That's how I'd like to see it go down, but, I know that what will happen will happen. It's Prince and I'll be watching, regardless.

What about Australia?

They are bradcasting this on Channel 7 next monday night between 11pm - 1 am (2 hour show)

In previous years, Grammy's have been like 3 and half hours +, so it makes me think Channel 7 will show an edited version (lets just pray that they don't cut out the Prince performance)

Hmmm...Did u all see the Newswatch in the upper left corner on the Grammys site? Clive Davis has been "promoted" to chairman and CEO of BMG North America, in which he'll oversee ARISTA, J, RCA, and Jive record labels as well as BMG Distribution...Could this mean a new collaboration??

For me, this has no relevance to how his music is appreciated. In fact, I feel a bit dissapointed that he may have more spot light on him.

The world of spot light shows up so much crap. I hope he remains full of integrity.

O yeah..

This is great news and eye can't wait 2 C it.

Prince is gonna blow away every1 else at the Grammys... and thats a fact.

Prince is also the favorite artist of some of these major performers such as Pharrell, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake (1 of his favorites), OutKast.

And Parliament is there, so P will definately enjoy that... and so will eye.

Eye'm tapin' it!!!
all eye can do, is just offer U my love...

Since he's nominated for NEWS, then it'll probably be something from NEWS. There are lots of unsold copies of it in record stores that need to move.

I guess it could also be some 20th Anniversary of Purple Rain medley... in which case I hope the Revolution DO NOT join him onstage (he's not good enough for them after his absence from The Family Jamm). I also hope that Sheila E stays the hell away from that stage.

My best bet is that the song he does will be something new, something that the masses won't like, something that will forever label Prince as "irrelevant."

i was thinking along the same lines, joy. smile start off nice, slow but funky with NEWS, then unleash the funk and rock guitar... like some Calhoun Square. then slow it down for the ladies with Shhh, and end it with some gett-off-your-seat dancing like Family Name.

Those of you who are not old enough to have seen Prince and the Relovaution RULE the Grammies and AMA shows during the Purple Rain era should go get the tape. Prince KILLS everyone when he does an award show and I expect the same on this year. It proves the undeminished relevance of Prince to the naysayers who were trying to write him off through through the 90s into this decade. Prince is up fpr a Grammy and doing the award show some 20 years after Purple Rain.

Respect is due.

- I dont remember his performance with the Revolution and I don´t care about Revolution at all. But I hope he does a performance with the same passion as of the Revolution days. I don´t think he will have the guts to play some instrumental music (he is nominated because of an instrumental album) but I hope he doesn´t play hits like Raspberry Beret
I wish he could perform a hot guitar solo

- I hope not too...it probably won´t happen. But I hope this performance is great, even if the masses don´t like. It´s about time to Prince to have a new audience. To leave the teenagers and reach the same audience of people like Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. I mean, to receive respect for those who appreciate good music.
