Viktor

This is my first time post to this site and I did not read everybody's posts.

It seems that everyone is trying to predict or figure out what this cat is about, (Prince). That is taking away our very own human nature. Obviously everyone is different, and people do and say things will never be figured out due to the fact that our feelings come from within of what we do, say, act, or react upon.

I, on the other hand, have been a listener of Prince's music since '77. I listen, jam, dance, and sometimes get what he is conveying through his music. But this is my understanding and how it applies to me or my situation at that particular time.

Not to sound rude, it just puts me in awe at how people are trying to decipher his actions. It truly matters not. As long as we can jam at a show or get some fresh and new music, what does it matter?

If you have to listen to a critic, listen to a "Musician" speaking of Prince. They all have high praises of his musical abilities and talents. Bump the rest of the critics.

Try and imagine what it would be like to have to answer questions of how one lives one's life for over twent-five years to the press. So whatever his actions are with the press, that's with the press. Does he not give excellent performances? You may not like all of his music, but it is without question on time and muscially concise and perfect. Even if you don't like a song he creates, once listened to without judgement, it's almost perfect. (For those out there, nothing is truly perfect, before you tear into something else and try and yet decipher another line of someone's comment).

I'll see Prince live any chance I get and it doesn't matter to me what's playing, because he jams and we know it, and I'll groove to the music just the same.

He has a cool line in a song, "If you set your mind free baby, maybe you'll understand."

For those who think it's about drugs, that's cool. For those who think it's simply about letting people be who they are, that's cool too.

He/She who is without sin/judgement cast the first stone.

Jam On Prince... Do what you gotta do... You know it matters not.

Victor!*

What is considered a Hit?? Just the Music Videos?? Or the 4 songs played on Radio?

What is a Hit to this guy?

I'd assume if you are going to a Prince concert after 1993.. you are a Hardcore fan & would know full Albums!

Is "Pop Life" a Hit? it is known.. and I think everyone loves when he plays a song from that Era.. BUT was it a Hit? or "Sometimes it snows in April"...OR ANY Song off his 1980's Albums.

I considered a Hit anything off any 1980's Album. The 90's were more for the hardcore fans.

I do believe that Pop Life made it into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart back in 85 and there for it truly qualifies as a 'hit' Also, Prince has had BIG TIME hits in the 90s. Sexy MF, Cream, 7, and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World (Actually a #1 Hit) to name a few.

He's playing his hits again "after so many years"???

1990 Nude tour- pretty much a hits show

1992 D&P tour- First half focuses on the D&P album, the second half on hits

1993 Act One tour- First half focuses on prince album. the second half on hits

1993 Act Two tour- Plays requests from the fans, mostly hits

1997-1998 Jam Of The Year tour- Guess what?? A greatest hits show with a few fan favorites (the tour becomes more hits-laden as it progresses).

1999- All the shows he played during the Rave era (including Rave Un2 The Year 2000) are, you guessed it, full of hits.

2000-2001 Hit and Run Tour- Another greatest hits tour.

hmmm, so other than his LAST tour, and a few shows in the mid-nineties to support "Come" and TGE, ALL of his tours since 1990 have been heavily soaked in hits. What gives with the idea that he isn't playing hits???

yeah and uh you forgot the Lovesexy tour as well...at least the show that I saw was essentially a 'quick-hits' tour where he played about 2 minutes of a zillion tunes...

thats my problem with many of his official live shows...many often felt like overly planned choreographed predictable vegas style reviews...minimal on true inspired in the moment spontenaety...

IMO what he really should do is ignore what he THINKS people want to hear...and instead go out there and play all of his shows like they are AFTERSHOWS...historically THATS where the Prince that I respect has shown up and delivered...the AFTERSHOWS...extended truly improvised musical workouts is what I want to hear and i think what he wants to play (and I'm not talking about that phony CHOREOGRAPHED improvisation...uggh)...

The old AFTERSHOWS... THATS what a concert SHOULD be...

But no...as your post shows...for YEARS he's essentially given us the typical quick runthrough of Greatest Hits...

I couldn't care less about seeing 'prince: the pop star PERFORMER'.

bring us 'prince: the constantly experimenting & spontaneous MUSICIAN'

are there any freaking photos or setlists from this show, one would think it was a secret show performed for the c.i.a and sent out via satellite t.v to Saddam Hussein's cubby hole

It still amazes that people still get upset with the way Prince acts towards the media or any1 else. Moreso amazes me that people seem 2 think they know what Prince is thinking & know what goes on in his personal life. It also amazes me how people r so easily duped in2 believing anything.

Prince has never ever distanced himself from his old songs despite what u heard or his constant battle with WarnABrotha. Of course he would play songs that people would want 2 hear, but maybe just MAYBE he plays them because he likes 2 play them! & what would b so and about playing N.E.W.S?

Those who have an appreciation 4 jazz would love it. 4 those that do not necessarily like the jazz influence that Prince has ventured in2 (TRC, Xpectation, N.E.W.S), then that is ur prerogative. The chance 2 see these & many other jazz influenced tunes in a live show within the old jazz club settings would b an epotime in musicianship. U seem 2 4get that Prince is a musician 1st, entertainer afterwards.

How many renditions of Raspberry Beret must u hear? Let the man do as he see fits (which most of u all will not do). If u dont like the music dont buy it. If u dont like the playlist of the live show, dont go c it.

Im selling 12 cds 4 a penny, u down?
Cool as the Other Side of the Pillow...

Good to see Prince destroy those ridiculous rumours of him being desperate for cash.

I respect him for not simply making easy hits at the expense of his artistic integrity, and him playing games with simplistic journalists is pretty funny to see.

hmmm...
seems 2 me
that a real artist is
one who sculpts for
no one except for themself
and paints the pictures only they
can see

when the work is real
then the only one who matters
is the artist
and the only thing that matters
is the expression

who gives a damn
what the ^#&(%
the audience
thinks or doesn't think

good for P to not buy into the media hype- the music industry of the masses is only about $$
not art
so thats why P dropped out

so for the rest of us, the real fams
he suits us just fine
the $ is just for kicks
doncha think?
"positivity..have u had ur plus sign 2day?"

"Who's the first patient?" the musician asked, switching glances between two invited journalists. I motioned the competition to sit for his one-on-one first.

Prince has made the Doctor? - What a knid of a doctor?

"I'm not doing it because I need the cash," Prince said sternly, after commenting on news stories (including one I'd written for The Advertiser's TGIF section last Friday) that suggested the artist was looking to feather his retirement nest egg with the guaranteed cash of a "greatest hits" tour.

He pointed out that he already had more money in his bank account than he needed

Autsh!!!
