And what law says Prince has to be smiling 24/7? I guess some people aren't ready for a serious black man. If he ain't grinning from ear to ear or acting like a clown, something must be wrong. rolleyes

Everything is not about race. The simple fact is that Prince used to act happier and more full of life onstage than he does now. This is too bad, but he's just gotten a little tired with age like most people.

As far as him looking older...yeah, that's what happens to everyone with time. I agree that he looks remarkable for his age, but yes, he will start to look older and older as time goes along. This is sort of how things work for humans...get a clue.

Hi all, I agree with everyone who says it's great to see some pics of Prince on here. I too am glad to see this interesting guitar. Actually that has gotten me thinking, and wondering if anyone here can answer a question for me. We'll need the way-back machine for this one:

Am I mistaken in remembering something about Terence Trent D'Arby (back when he was huge, c. "Introducing the Hardline") sending Prince the gift of a custom made purple stratocaster? If I remember that right, what happened to that guitar and are there any pictures of it? How about the "beautiful" piano, wasn't that also a gift?

Cheers all, take care.

Hmmm, I don't think he looks as attractive as he could. I think it's the hair, I'm not feeling it. He looks a lot like Morris Day with that do.

But that's just me.

Hmm, yes. I've observed that. Of course, we can't expect him to be jumping around or doing the splits forever. Just that I, again, wonder if it's a religious thing suppressing certain things. I wonder.

The hair isn't spectacular, you know. It is BETTER than the Crispin Glover hair, the suit, tie and shirt are sharp though. Hey, did he wear his boots?

This one's a whole other thread! I remember something about that, but never seen the guitar! Hey Terence hasn't aged much either! And he's wearing his hair like the Hardline days again! Since we're all talking looks...

It´s interesting how Prince´s look is more ´clean´ nowadays. It shows him depending less on gimmicks, make up, dancing, etc. Unfortunately lots of people had prejudice against him as a musician in the past because of his flamboyant image.

I wonder if it the un-gimmiky thing is religious based? Just a wonder. No cloud guitar or telecaster is odd, but then it is cool to see him use new axes, but again, these are basic non-custom guitars anyone can buy...? Wonder if he'll stop using the Cloud...is it too "Prince"? I wonder.

It's not so much about him not doing splits...he just doesn't dance AT ALL any longer. Don't you think it's unusual that he suddenly went from dancing often during the shows to totally stopping?

I don't know if he just isn't feeling it, or if it's some religious thing or whatever, but it does make his shows less fun to watch.

He's still the best live performer out there, but it is just sad that he seems to have lost much of the fun of performing.

- Well, I watched the whole Budokan concert on VCD...and he danced...not like before, but he made several body moves, and still was a great showman, even holding a guitar

It seems so simple 2 me, that it baffles me how many "orgers" don't get it. Prince is keeping it real. He's all about the music (and always has been) now. It's frustrating 2 me, being a musician, digging many styles of music, and finally, Prince goes in this direction, and very few "understand" it. I like the "showman" side through the years... original and traditional at the same time. High energy to the Maxx. BUT... enough complaining already! He's got the best material and band we've seen... the older material is done the best it has been... The new music should be embraced, but then again, not if you dig it. The whole name association thing blows my mind... I mean if you played Xpectation or N.E.W.S. for music heads, and told them it was Herbie Hancock's new stuff, people would be like, "wow". I hope Herbie has heard these, 'cause he would dig it. I deal with Herbie a bit in my work, and he (like Stevie, Bernie Worrell, Prince, and others) is a MAJOR influence on keys 2 many, and musically open minded. I guess it's like, if U don't feel it, try 2 or just leave it alone. Prince's musical expressions have not stopped and aren't about 2, so keep listening...

Peace.

kstrat

Howdy everybody!

In regard to Prince's "Strat", after taking a good look at the pics I'd say that it's a "Strat-Style" custom instrument.

It appears to have only 2 pickups, one near the neck and another near the bridge. They look as though they might be an EMG single coil & Humbucker. There are only 2 control knobs, most likely a volume & tone. This is pretty much the set up I've seen in photos of his stage guitars.

This guitar also has a Floyd Rose bridge & locking nut.

BTW isn't there a pre-warner bros.publicity photo of Prince
with a "real" strat? I beleive I saw this photo used in the
old Prince unauthorized video.
