I agree. And the fact that you are saying this XxAxX is saying something given that you live in Minnesota and you're a living legend on the org.

eek um...? smile

Because you've been on the org for so long and you have a great deal of wisdom about Prince.

(I didn't see your comment until now even though it's on page 4 of this thread. I was rereading previous posts.)

This photo is from reply 260. (Is it from the "Emancipation Words and Pictures" book or the Jam of the Year Tour program?) Now look at the photo above, there is the rearview silhouette of the this photo. It's so interesting all of the details he put into the album booklet for Emancipation.

It’s from the album liner notes that came in the form of a booklet with the CD. Sweet little detail. Also in the liner notes, did you noticed he included their dogs or Mayte’s dogs in the “thanks.”

I have never seen the album booklet, but have read the credits/thanks, thanks to PrinceVault. Here they are:
"Thank U - 2 my Creator, eternally Mayte, our angels, the Mojicas, Nelly, John & Jan, Mia, Hena 2000, Isis, L. Londell McMillan, also K.A.J. Productions. As always the New Power Generation - Mr. Hayes, Kirk A. Johnson, Rhonda S., K. Dyson, Eric Leeds, and on cd one track 6, and cd two track 10 - Sonny T., Michael B., and Tommy Barbarella."
"Also - Franklin Felder, Aaron L. HM Buff, R. Hahnfeldt, Steve D., Remi Watson, Juli K. Winge, Parke, J. Katz, Randee St. Nicholas, George Benson, 99, Savion Glover, Chanté Moore, bMW, AOL, Billy Sparks, Tom Joyner, BET, VH1, and all the musicians, poets and distributors that believed in this xperiment in truth. The only love there is... is the love we make... Peace and B wild! - prince"
"Thanks, Shiva" - Emale
"Thanx Kate" - My Computer
(Source: http://www.princevault.co...ncipation)
He thanks their dogs, MIA and Hena, as well as their cat, Isis. By “our angels”, I am guessing he is referring to their son and future children.

I wonder what is the significance is of the silhouettes of them looking through the window. My best guess at interpretation is "together, we can take on/conquer the world" or "together, we can navigate life together", but again, those are just educated guesses as I'm not entirely sure what to make of the picture. I know that there must be some significance to it because Prince was very intentional and detail-oriented when it came to his music.

"PRINCE FALLS IN LOVE, AGAIN, ON ‘THE MORNING PAPERS': 365 PRINCE SONGS IN A YEAR"

Michael Gallucci, Diffuser online

March 25, 2018

Source: http://diffuser.fm/prince...ng-papers/

.

Excerpt:

"Falling in love in a song was nothing new for Prince. He did it all the time. A lot of the time it ended up getting all swirled in with buckets of lust too, but throughout his almost 40-year recording career, he expressed his devotion and unbridled passion in ways that ranged from the downright nasty to near heavenly.

.

"The Morning Papers" ended up just missing the Top 40 when it was pulled as a single in April 1993. (It did a little better at radio, where it cracked the Top 20.) Like most of the Love Symbol's songs, it also appeared on the 3 Chains O' Gold home video that made a little more sense of the story that got pushed aside on record. With or without context, it's one of Prince's best songs of the '90s, a throwback of sorts about a subject he excelled at when he put his heart into it."

Morris Hayes said this song was one of his favorites.

I'm not a professional musician like Morris, and I can't speak to his reasons for liking the song as much as he does, but from my perspective as a listener, I feel that THM is a very well-crafted song that sounds fantastic on recording and live. It has a wonderful mix of instruments, and the guitar solos are just fabulously badass to me. I've seen a couple videos of live performances of the song, and I love how Prince just FEELS the guitar as he's playing and how the NPG is just totally "in sync" when playing/dancing to/performing the song.

.

Per PrinceVault, the following people played on the album version of TMP (http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=The_Morning_Papers):

  • Prince - all vocals and instruments, except where noted
  • Michael B. - drums
  • Sonny T. - bass guitar
  • Levi Seacer, Jr. - rhythm guitar
  • Tommy Barbarella - keyboards
  • Michael B. Nelson - trombone (credited as "Mike Nelson")
  • Kathy Jensen - baritone saxophone (credited as "Kathy J.")
  • Dave Jensen - trumpet
  • Brian Gallagher - tenor saxophone
  • Steve Strand - trumpet

.

As much as I love The Morning Papers, the lyrics have been a bit of a puzzle to me because I felt that I only partially understood what exactly Prince was referencing with the phrase "the morning papers". There is some literal truth to the phrase because the newspaper clippings appear in the music video. However, the following thread helped me sort out the meaning of the lyrics.

What is these morning papers that Prince sang of? http://prince.org/msg/7/449332

There are still a few lines that I have trouble understanding. Perhaps others could shed some light on the meaning of the following lines in this song:

.

If he poured his heart into a glass
And offered it like wine
She could drink and be back in time for the morning papers

(I'm clueless about this one.)

.

Should we ask the moonlight on your face
Or the raindrops in your hair
Or should we ask the man who wrote it there in the morning papers?

(I'm thinking that Prince is saying that the newspaper/tabloid writers know as much as the raindrops in one's hair or the moonlight on one's face. In other words, neither the moonlight nor the raindrops nor any newspaper/tabloid writers know anything about he and Mayte's relationship. What do others think?)

It's a weird compilation because while it's mostly footage of Mayte and Prince/prince, there's also footage of Prince and Misty Copeland as well as Prince and Manuela, yet the title is "Prince & Mayte - The One That Got Away". In addition, the footage is of varying quality, so it doesn't "flow", but then again, the person who made it is more than likely not a professional video editor.

I agree with your thoughts about the lyrics.I've always believed that he was referring to the tabloids and the newspaper headlines as well.I feel that the line about her drinking and being home in time for the morning papers was a reference to her partaking of his love all night and then being home by the time the morning papers were delivered. That's just how I interpreted the lyrics.I think they are some of his most beautiful.

I didn’t think the lyrics were confusing. He’s talking about the gossip that would ensue if the world found out about his romance with a 16 year old. Although when the album came out, I had no idea it was real. Do you remember the newspapers he created with headlines and articles about the Prince (him) dating the Egyptian princess? I remember them being sold at the NPG store and seeing pictures of them online. I think people took the whole “Love Symbol” album and the storyline he created, to be some story he created to promote the album and tour, when it was actually based on a real courtship going on behind the scenes with him and Mayte that he later revealed in their wedding program.

I think he's talking about, if he shared how he really feels for her, his love for her, she'd fall for him and, again, rumors and gossip would be rampant about his romance with a 16 year old Egyptian princess.

Thank you, amethyst68!!! Those lines make so much more sense now! Is this a metaphor that is in the 3COG movie?
