Amen, Someone called Prince a misogynistic on this thread. A woman-hater really? My grandfather was a sexist prick (greatest generation and all) but even I don't think he hated women. That term is thrown around too often whenever a man womanizes or incorrect notions about woman. Prince had his sexist controlling moments. But a woman hater is not what I would call him at all. He hired way too many normal-looking female musicians to call him that.

Nobody called Prince a misogynist. I called someone else a misogynist (because they posted a comment in which they described Prince's girlfiriends as variously sex objects, attention-whores, trivial, calculating, superficial, talentless, gold-diggers and sluts.) But Prince, no. Prince had flaws for sure, but woman-hating was not one of them.

That's what I'm saying too. I don't know what happen during Prince's marriages to put any judgement on him or his ex wifes. Marriage and relationships are not easy. There is two sides of a story.

I am confused by some of the comments too. He put most if not all of his female musicians and dancers on a pedestal and let them shine. A lot male musicans past or present would not have done what Prince did. This is the main reason why a lot of his fans don't want to see anything negative with alot of the people he work with or dated. If he love you, you were put on a pedestal.

Yes, no doubt Prince loved Mayte, and then he abandoned her, after she lost lost two children. And the issue is that the person she fucked when trying to move forward was 'nasty,' when if she had fucked someone up to Prince's standards of elegance it might have been fine? Should we consider what might have been done to Mayte's self respect by the time she decided to hook up with Tommy Lee? No, let's not.

Tommy Lee was muthafucking nasty! All the people he slept with...Please!

While Prince was sooooo innocent. Let's not be delusional.

MT doesn't want people to know how much she got in the settlement. Doesn't want to look like a gold digger. I'm sure she is a wonderful person, wife, mother etc etc etc and all the schools she builds are great wonderful etc etc. But when she pursued a married man and didn't stop until she got him...that is a woman to beware of. Just my opinion. I think the worse thing that will come out in the divorce papers is the amount of money she made off of him.

I agree that if it is disclosed how much she got (and little else will be if MN is a no fault divorce state?), it will not reflect well on her. Although, if MN is not no-fault then allegations of adultry could be brought forward, but that is so archaic. However, I don't believe her school building/business is quite the do-gooder org. she makes it out to be. Anyone who knows anything about business/etc & particularly the MALdevelopment that has went on in Africa in the past 30 years knows what a scam many of these agencies really are. I am curious what MT's yearly salary is? If it is large, why is someone who is possibly a multi-millionair hitting up working people (& tacky enough fans of her X-that she has profited from) for cash? Most Americans dont understand the costs in Africa & many people there live on ONE U.S. dollar a day, or less. The rest goes to the "helpful" agencies. MT's business charity is just that a business and the documents may disclose that. Uh oh!!!! Better not speak the truth or here come the hater/jealousy remarks in 4, 3, 2, 1 razz

She came into the marriage with what she owned, same as he did. He was already a legend before she ever came on the scene. She had nothing to do with his legacy. They had no children. She should have gotten nothing. It may be a no fault state but if she was fighting for a large payout, that is where the accusations of drugs/women may come into play. That and the value of his estate at the time. And, I don't care who comes in 4,3,2,1. I don't like home wreckers. It takes a certain type of person to consciously do that. Its usually a selfish person. I guess we'll have to wait for a few more weeks to see.

I've a friend who works 4 company which collects 4 various charities, can't say I'm impressed with what I've heard. I've seen some pretty disturbing things about NPO's in Africa...

Edit; Not 2 mention The Red Cross Haiti scandal.

Decent hard-working average people give money (with the best intentions) thinking these NGO/NPO & similar groups are helping. In reality most of them are doing the exact opposite. People would be sickened if they knew the MILLIONS of Africans who have died in the past few decades/currently for greed via privitization & corruption. I don't know what P.'s special connection is with the country Mani is allegedly building in (I sincerely doubt there is any). I hope she isn't allowed to place his name on it (unless there is documented proof that he approved it) or solicit further donations using his name. Look at the horrific sex abuse that went on at the African school that Oprah made the mistake of getting involved with, or Madonna's similar fiasco. If Mani wants to spend the money she made from P. in his honor, great that would be a fabulous sign & indicate something of her character. Show some class & don't attach your name 2 it (do it annony, like P. did) & run it past his Sister/Fam/Board & how about something in the USA given the fact that Violence levels for young African American Males is actually higher here than in most War Zones in the World. Or how about the fact Music/Art Programs are basically non-existant in the USA in poor areas. Again, to me that would be a sign that someone is actually attempting to honor the person they claim to "love".

Yes, I liked Jill, too. She cracks me up in the beginning of Graffiti Bridge. I know it's just a movie, but I always thought her character got a raw deal in Purple Rain and it was nice to see her get him back a bit in Graffiti Bridge. Lol As for MT, I was around for MG then busy with my own life right around the time she lost the baby, and when I looked up MG was gone and there was this MT chick lookin like Vanity and confusion the Heck out of me. I never saw much of her then she was gone so I don't know her. I've only heard rumors and the rumors weren't enough to keep my interest in MT. Frankly, her only relevance came from being with a celebrity so she's irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. As far as P's choices of females, I think he always thought like a teenager in his choices cuz that's where he was stunted emotionally. He was a sexy, charming, kind, generous, 57 year old who was still emotionally 17-19 years old. Women saw a sexy rich grown up and were infatuated. He saw females the age he felt inside and was infatuated. As the females matured, he didn't catch up with them emotionally. That's death to a relationship. Nobody's fault. And if a goldigger got hurt feelings dealing with P...so what?

This is a really good breakdown of things and it makes so much sense.

It's Coming Back To Me Now,...You and I Were Meant To Be Together, Hands Down.

IMO he was famous, powerful, wealthy and straight: groupie-types, aspiring singers and actresses, and girls aspiring for a husband flocked to him. For over 35 years. The first thing I thought when I read the Judith Hill interview was, "Well, she just had $300 million slip through her fingers," especially after she said he said he would take care of her. At some point, a man in his position has to grow up and realize he needs something other than arm candy. Or you get to be 57 and all alone in your massive, empty life with pills in your pocket.
Just had a thought. Wonder if older, wiser women intimidated him. It might've been less scary for him to be in charge.

Probably so. Come on now, this is not that hard to figure out. I don't know so many people on here get defensive about that.

Shelia E. was around the same age as him. Tamron was over 40 and I am pretty sure he knew plenty of women, celebrity friends included that was over 40. Being 57, 40 was the lowest he should had went. And I'm being generous with that.

Glad JJ had closure, and if she somehow sees this, I hope she doesn't blame herself. Addicts cling to their addiction at the cost of friends and family. I had a couple of those in my family and I can't get too close to them now, it makes me too sad.

I choose to be around positive people.

Prince made many genius choices and some poor ones -- the wandering eye, pushing away people who truly loved him -- but he fulfilled his dream of lifelong music-making.

Thinking on it, he married his first wife after she became pregnant. Then without living children, they agreed on an annulment. She got 20 years support--thousands a month--(referenced on org threads) and the house in Spain that she sold in 2004 (Forbes). He is free--within the precepts of his faith- to remarry. So is she.

By then he was extremely contract aversive yet when number Wife2B enters the scene, rumors are she is pregnant. They are quietly married in the JW church in Canada.

He has no children.

Watching the promo interview for The Greatest Romance Ever Sold... sold...he talked about God given roles for men and women. The lyrics --"To poetry seldom heard
You're heart has never been broken
Until you've heard these words,
"Your body was designed to respond to mine
In spite of your desire to mold me"

My guess he was searching for a phantom. That driven spirit to work so hard from so young an age was the same drive that kept him searching. Mayte was too young, too in the flow at the time to center him after their losses--and he had no way to cope, but a muted denial--there will be more children, lots of children, he said in the Oprah interview. Larry became that rock. He helped Prince stay centered through multiple losses. Wife2B enters his life through his charity--he has come to the place in life where he needed to feel helpful in a bigger way. He is looking for deep meaning (and that is what is so charismatic about him)--and he reaches.

If it is true that once divorced he could never marry and had to be celebate, W2 hung him because she wanted a divorce, not an annulment. He didn't want a divorce--perhaps that doesn't mean he wanted her, only that he understood the impact of a divorce on the rest of his life.

Though she was married in the JW church, she must not have genuinely accepted it. She too is divorced and then remarried.

His songs from then on are often about metaphysical love... and looking beyond this life and the trophy wife--The Breakdown. He also said in an interview that he preferred being around young people --they were up and coming where as someone here mentioned. Older people were on their paths and tougher to influence:) He was something of a talent scout--for almost any venture. And it seems he often financied things at times buying clothes for their families and donating to their causes or organizations.

Sheila E might be closing in on 60 but she is beautiful and soulful. Yet it seems he could offer her little more than a voice on the phone in the night. His friendship. If you haven't seen her video, Girl Meets Boy, take a minute and watch. Though incredibly sad, it is also telling. In an interview she talked about meeting Prince for the first time when they were kids. https://www.sheilae.com/sheila-e-songs/

All together, he lived an awesome adventure that he wrote--not others (too much). And he survived through situations that have brought other artists (all types) to their knees --and not in prayer. Overall his rock was his faith and he never waivered in his spirituality. He was a good man in a tough business doing his best and it was perfect. Joyful journeys Dr. Nelson. wink

I feel like this is 100% spot on! But Prince always had his one true love and that was MUSIC-he had it from an early age. He had to be in control and was the type to live in the momet and never look back. Unfortunately, his abandonment and troubled childhood shaped his ability to interact with others and led to his inability to sustain a long term relationship. He was once reportedly asked by a journalist why he was such a control freak and he replied, “What if everyone left me and there was no one around except me? I gotta know how to control things on my own." I think deep down he had a terrible fear of being alone, which makes it all the more sad that he was left alone when he died. sad

We all have the fear of dying alone -- which is one main reason we are all grieving so badly for Prince. We identify our fears of this with the way he did die -- at least that one ight, he was alone.

Krystal, great insight I think, to the psyche stuff. I have felt that simpley, Prince wanted both. He wanted a spiritually matured partner whom he could trust and be attracted to in that way (spirituality is VERY sexy when it's actualized)...but he also wanted the beauty of youth, the pure, virgin-like, let-me-teach-her thing.

The obvious problem is someone 24 years old simply does not have the life experience to be the woman his heart really wanted, but an older woman did not have the things of a 24-year-old.

it would've been nice if he found someone in their early 40s who was experienced and spiritual but still youthful. I think it would've taken a very special woman to really keep him -- but it was absolutely possible.

I wonder a lot if it's true what I've read here once or twice, that Prince looked so sad those last months, and if some of that wasn't just the physical pain - but the fact his Lady didn't show up.

Who was she? Did she really know and then not show up? That is so sad especially if he didn't talk to her to let her know and she might have just have been waiting for him to give her his hand and away they'd go. I heard he was shy in person, could he have been so shy not to tell her?

They didn't get an annulment. They got a divorce. He may have WANTED an annulment because of his newly found JW religion, but after several years of marriage and 2 pregnancies, an annulment wasn't possible. They were divorced, MG has confirmed this. Not sure about 20 years of support, never heard that and don't believe it. She would still be getting cash from him.

If you read the lyrics to the song 4ever, he seemes to be ok with them not meeting or at least he accepted it. Maybe they both didn't try hard enough to get to eachother or maybe there were other reasons they couldn't be together.

Angel, do you think his "dream girl" was someone he actually knew of or was she like an ideal "fantasy woman" that he prayed/hoped for? Someone he wished for and existed in his imagination or a real woman?

Agreed.. neutral

I knew about Jill posting that but I'm surprised to read about Mani mentioning something to that effect.

What did Mani say, malbena?

MT doesn't want people to know how much she got in the settlement. Doesn't want to look like a gold digger. I'm sure she is a wonderful person, wife, mother etc etc etc and all the schools she builds are great wonderful etc etc. But when she pursued a married man and didn't stop until she got him...that is a woman to beware of. Just my opinion. I think the worse thing that will come out in the divorce papers is the amount of money she made off of him.

and she did it while pretending to be the wifes FRIEND.

I could care less if shes a gold digger - there are plenty of single rich men she could hook up with - Mani is more sinister than just a gold digger - she knowingly smiled in Myate's face on the daily. I'm sorry but thats as dirty a thing as someone can do really.

I dont excuse Prince in this at all - but this is why I don't like Manuela.

I've read this thread about entirely. I guess fans will never know what happened behind close doors and we can only speculate about all the relationships our beloved Prince had. Whether he was married or not, whether some relationships were known or not, whether they lasted long or not, whether there were ulterior motives from both parties or not, are details feeding analysis of such an admired man. Some of these women are inspiring in a way thus leading fans to advocate for them. Who knows how long that last boat of musicians and women lastly involved would have lasted either.

In the end, what I take away is the versatile Prince who would follow his vision and live in the moment. His life were all in stages from the moment he was born until he died in pursuit of happiness in each and every stage.

I say, ultimately, you all fans are his only true love as you have all lasted longer than some of his women. You also were blessed with him not breaking your heart and allowing you to see only what gifts he wanted you to see and you were always let in. He loved you!!!! while he ended up in bad terms with some women and musicians who had the opportunity to know him no matter what is said in public to look good and remain under the lime light he owned.

My message to you all is: You are great and you were blessed with loving him. Enjoy all the positive he gave you and made your life worth seeing through his eyes. Forget the drama that will never end, the bad people who will fight to be THE ONE (musician, friend, or others).

Peace!
