I always thought she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen...I still think that. She was perfection imo. I remember when I saw her picture in this dress, I had to make it for myself. I did and wore it to a concert with long leather gloves (can't remember what concert). I remember I felt so good when several strangers told me I had on Vanity's dress and they loved it! heart

RIP Denise... dove rose cry you were a big influence on me...your music, your style, your spirit. I will miss knowing you are somewhere on this planet.

She was always MISNAMED from the get go, by the purple-ish one.

She never really came across as 'vain', even when she was 'named' that.

.

Her life returned to her when she took back her name...much prefer her as Denise Matthews, she became whole, healed, full of life, at peace again, long before she died.

.

Prince...was a negative influence on her...he couldn't do anything about her inner demons at that time because he had them too, plus as I say, he 'named' her incorrectly (and negatively)...there was and remains something dark, heavy and negative about Prince...his talent for music never hid that for me.

.

His 'tribute' is what we've all come to expect from Prince...saying all the 'right' things...but do we ever sense that real, true, heartfelt compassion from him?

Be honest people.

.

Anyway, enough about Prince...DENISE MATTHEWS you were saved girl! Turned away from all of the 'evil' in her life and struggled daily to maintain that consistency. Her struggle is my struggle.

I will remember her for that.

This is the true INSPIRATION of her life and CELEBRATION of today, I'm so glad for Denise...beloved woman.

The Herald noted that the Purple One was more chatty than usual, and at one point, he reflected on a specific memory with Matthews.

“Can I tell you a story about Vanity? Or should I tell you a story about Denise?,” he asked the crowd. “Her and I used to love each other deeply. She loved me for the artist I was, I loved her for the artist she was trying to be. She and I would fight. She was very headstrong cause she knew she was the finest woman in the world. She never missed an opportunity to tell you that. I probably shouldn’t be telling this story,” he said, “but she’d want us to celebrate her life and not mourn her.”

So make sure that you don't contribute to the 'worst' in 'this 'place' Guitarhero...by focusing on what you perceive to be so.

You could've easily chosen to comment on the heartfelt dedication to Denise...part of my comment.

This thread is really not about Prince's feelings (only) right now.

I repeat...Denise Matthews!...especially the latter part of her life is a TRUE inspiration to many of us.

'Nasty Girl', truly was funky though.

/// I never recall Vanity trashing Prince in the media and she said they stayed in touch for awhile after she left. Reports from the concert are that he was very upset. I believe that cared about each other but egos, drug use and P not keeping his dick in pants made so they could not make it as couple this does not mean you still can not care about someone.

I admire the fact Denise never shared any of her secrets about Prince and the other members. She was seriously ill and she could have easily gotten money for her stories, but she didnt stoop low to do that. She kept her dignity and respect for herself ,colleagues, friends, and for Prince. May she rest in Peace.

She was the most beautiful woman in the world. Everyone including every female artist during that time wanted to look like her and was jealous. She had cheekbones, hair and the tinest waist you'd ever seen. Long before a Kardashian ever existed, there was Vanity (known then by Vanity). But we also saw the downfall. The testimony is she rose from the ashes and stayed positive for many years until her health failed her.

People will miss her. She had natural beauty you just don't see these days with all the weaves and lace fronts and botox and lip plumps.

But I'm still waiting to hear tributes or at least acknowledgements from some people. But that's just me.

For instance, Eddie Murphy, Arsenio, Nikki Sixx, Brenda, Susan, Jesse Johnson, and a few others. But you know what, maybe people don't have to do it publicly. That's just me wanting to see that they know and care. And maybe I missed it. So I'm going to leave it at that. She shared an important time with Brenda and Susan. And maybe they are grieving. I just never heard of Denise ever having any enemies. She seemed to laugh things off. Even with Prince.

RIP Denise Matthews.
