Sinead O'connor: 'I Had Violent Clash With Prince'

Sinead O'connor "detests" pop star Prince, the man who wrote her biggest hit, and became embroiled in a "violent" clash with him when they first met.

The Irish singer shot to worldwide fame in 1990 with her cover of Prince's song Nothing Compares 2 U, but has confessed she loathes the Purple Rain star.

She alleges they had a huge bust-up when they met, but she is keeping details of the dispute a secret until she writes her memoirs.

O'Connor tells Britain's Uncut magazine, "I loved his music, but I had absolutely no idea or expectation that that single would be such a big hit, not at all. Did I ever meet Prince? I did and... we didn't like each other. At all. Ha ha! I'm not going to go into it, but we detest each other... It got violent too, which is why I can't go into it, but it is a very funny story. I'll tell it when I'm an old lady and I write my book."

Because even though they didn't get along. Prince made her a star....Noone knew who she was until she remade Prince's "MasterPiece" "Nothing Compare 2 U"....

I tend to notice that he lies like a fishmonger in interviews but he usually tells the truth in his lyrics lol

Sinead's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was one of the few bright spots for Prince in 1990.It was hugely successful at a time when his own album and movie "Graffiti Bridge" wasn't doing very well.He should have been thrilled with the success that Sinead was having.

Who said he wasn't thrilled? He has added the song permanently to his set list. Sinead is lying. Prince did not beat her up... She has a history of mental illness. Prince just scolded her . If he did what she said. She would have went straight to the police. Holding her hostage? Yea right Sinead! rolleyes

Prince lives outside the laws of the land (what regular man can court 2 underage girls)

and he's done some similar stuff to Jesse Johnson

rolleyes if he was so "thrilled",then how come he got all angry and cussed Sinead out? He didn't invite her to his home to thank her for recording his song and turning it into a massive hit.He invited her so he could talk shit to her and cuss her out.

"His problem is that I did a song of his without him being involved," O'Connor says."He's jealous.And he told me that he wishes that I had never recorded his song".

It would be easy to dismiss this story IF we had not heard all those other stories about Prince having "issues" with former proteges and bandmembers.It's a familiar pattern with him.Prince didn't like Sinead because she's bold,unapologetic and is not afraid to express her views.He dislikes "strong" women.

I dont think it was Malahide when he said that, was it maybe at Hop farm? At Dublin he said "We want to show our love & respect to Sinead O'Connor. Love & respect to all of u, thank u. A beautiful night, we love u so much. Thank u"
