My thoughts/review on The Revolution reunion at 1st Ave

-Overall: Show was hugely fun. Like old friends that you just pick up with as if no time has passed.

- Non musical highlight: the band giving a dramatic reading of their lines from Purple Rain. Revolution theater, I believe.

-Musical highlight: the Parade era material. I am not as in love with this era as some, but the band really poured it on for these songs.

-The white cloud guitar DEFINITELY was seen onstage being handled by tech people before the show. It was not Wendy's guitar. It was THE guitar. Personally, this did not raise my hopes of Prince showing up because he has not played THAT guitar style/color in years.

-Nostalgia aside, The Revolution is not as tight as any of Prince's touring bands. I love them forever, but they were a bit rusty. Don't get me wrong, they are fucking fierce still...just not in Prince shape. Forgotten lyrics and miscues abound. Anyone who tells you that they could whip Prince's current group are mistaken. They have more personality and character...which is what I went to the show for. That said...all that did was add charm and warmth. You could tell these people love each other, and they knew that we love them too.

-Lastly, the crowd skewed older than they typical Prince crowd. It seemed as if those who actually LIVED the pre and immediately post Purple Rain era were out in full force. Which makes sense. All in all, it was worth the price. Glad Bobby Z. is feeling fine.

ps. To the blondie that fainted during "Uptown", are you okay?

In the famous words from Pulp Fiction, personality goes a long way. For a band that had rehearsed only briefly and (one assumes) without knowing for certain who would be playing certain parts in the songs, I think they did great. I haven't seen Prince tour lately, but I watched some of the footage from his recent concerts, and it was ho-hum compared to this.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Jokes about Andy Allo aside....

If you're worried about tightness imagine this band with 2 months practise under Prince's eye... maybe we'd get those fabled 250 (or whatever) rehearsed songs for once

If you don't mind Skywalker I'd like to add my review to your thread later. I had VIP and want to add something about that part of the experience.

The show was simply amazing. The Revolution were not 'Prince tight' as the OP posted but htey were still friggin' great! Dez Dickerson played very well on tracks he never had to learn because he was already gone from the band. They only rehearsed for a day or so from what I heard. the crowd loved it all and the moments of them doing their lines from the movie was priceless. The VIP reception was fantatsic and gave us a chance to see First Avenue before it was packed with people. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience for me and my friends that came along.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Second that wholeheartedly (surprise, surprise, lol)

For a band that has played together how many times the last 20+ years? That was the definition of tight, as far as I'm concerned. Not that I disagree with the character comment above--that was evident just interacting with them at the reception. I thought Wendy was on point as the band leader, and I *WISH* I'd recorded the movie lines...priceless. Made all the more enjoyable by Prince NOT being on stage. I was secretly expecting a quick appearance at the end of the encore, but IF he was in the building, I'd bet he enjoyed everything that went down.

There were songs I'd have loved to hear (in retrospect) but after a million that ONE MO' Dollar doesn't make you feel richer, does it? In that moment, that space that place, surrounded with friends and famz sharing a dream and grooves we all live for, there were no disappointed faces. All I saw, heard, and felt was euphoria, love... and sweat, lol.

Good Lawd what a weekend! We two ladies got to be with a group of the most amazing men (gentlemen I should say batting eyes ) ever and we did it up. We flew in with beautiful weather and left with beautiful weather which was just validation to me that this weekend was meant to be from the beginning. The hotel was the hotness (thanks a million Banks for hooking us up bow ). I'd also like to thank our guys for not taking early morning pics of us...even though we both wake up stunningly beautiful lol I'm not drinking anymore for the rest of the month...my liver needs to recuperate a bit. Forgive me for the whining...walking is good for my heart even though my brain may say otherwise.

I just have to say that Minneapolis is one of the most beautiful, clean cities I've ever seen and the people were beyond amazing...even the bums were nice (how often does one say that?) The food was amazing...those tater tots were beyond delicious and the Juicy Lucy delivered. Best breakfast I've ever had and our Uptown diner waitress was beyond amazing. The pre-parties...omg the pre-parties! Too much fun! DJ Lenka killed it Friday night and I love her for it. DJ on Saturday was alright but what really made that night for me was seeing old friends and making new ones.

Beautiful pre-show reception with great eats and great peeps...omg I got a picture with Eric Leeds so I was good. I also accidentally blinded Lisa on her way to the stage but she smiled and didn't fall down the stairs so whew lol We danced our asses off at the ?uestlove set...he was rockin' the place so if you left before he did, you missed some greatness. First Avenue was like I'd always imagined it to look...even better actually...did u see the size of those Heinekens???? eek lol

As for THAT concert....eek bow Seriously, only the tone deaf could say it wasn't a spot-on show. The Revolution killed it and not once did I not see a person in the house not grooving their asses off...and trust me I had a damn good view of that crowd from my perch atop the stairs lol Wendy was master emcee and she didn't disappoint me at all. They all played like it was still 1985 to my ears and really after the first 2 songs I wasn't really missing Mr. Nelson at all. His guitar was there so technically he really did give a part of himself to the show IMHO. 'Pop Life' was my ultimate highlight...got it taped once I figure out how to get it off my camera...new camera issues I'll tell ya lol

After the show, CarrieMPLS invited us to a house party that was too great for words. Awesome people in a absolutely beautiful setting. The perfect ending to an amazing evening. I've said it a million times already but I have to say it again... BEST.WEEKEND.EVER!!!! Yet another great expericence with phenomenal memories to add to the pages of my life story. Thanks to my purple family for being there with me and for me...love ya'll bunches Org 6..let's do it again soon. kiss2 grouphug cool

Give the Revolution the rehearsal time that the other "touring" bands have to do a show and yes, they could and WOULD be as tight.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

The entire weekend was a BALL!

Meeting new friends and hanging out with old ones and dancing and having a blast!!

The concert was everything I hoped for and far exceeded my expectations. ?uestlove was way cooler than I ever would have expected as well.

Fun fun fun!
