Revolution Reunion @ First Ave Feb. 2012!!! It's happening!

Link taken from Bobby Z's facebook page:

http://www.startribune.co...04013.html

Revolution reunion. Bobby Z is rounding up Wendy & Lisa, Dr. Fink and Brown Mark for a rare concert by the "Purple Rain"-era Revolution in February at First Avenue as a benefit for heart- disease awareness. Prince is invited but hasn't yet responded.

UPDATE! #1:

Tickets go on sale on Monday the 21st of November...

and now there's an info page: http://mypurpleheart.org/

UPDATE! #2:

From the Minneapolis Star and Tribune http://www.startribune.co...03383.html:

Drummer Bobby Z is bringing the "Purple Rain"-era Revolutionback to First Avenue. The Feb. 19 concert will be a benefit for heart-health awareness and the American Heart Association.

"I was trying to think of something to do around the anniversary date of my heart attack," said Z, who suffered a near-fatal attack Jan. 30 and was hospitalized for several weeks. "In my new consciousness, I said, 'What's the biggest thing I could do?' Prince and the Revolution. The second biggest thing is the Revolution."

So Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Dr. Fink and Brown Mark will join Z for what he describes as a relaxed evening. "There'll be a lot of music and stories," the drummer said, "and some education about heart disease." Will there be Prince? "He's been supportive," said Z, Prince's drummer from 1978 to '86. "He didn't say 'Yeah' or 'Nay.' His world tour continues. He's like Bob Dylan and James Taylor; he plays all the time."

Saxophonist Eric Leeds, a longtime Prince sideman, will be the Revolution's special guest. The only other Revolution reunion performance was in 2003 for a benefit staged by Sheila E in Los Angeles. "Wendy fronted it," Z explained of the lead singer. "She's fantastic. We did six, seven, eight songs. It was a variety show with 100 acts. This will be an intimate evening with Wendy & Lisa, Dr. Fink, Brown Mark and Bobby Z -- the Revolution."

Tickets will go on sale Nov. 21. Information will be available atwww.first-avenue.com.

If Prince won't come, could they get Maya Rudolph instead?

The Revolution without Prince? That's like decaf coffe or beer with no alcohol. There's an ocean between me and Minneapolis, but if they'd do a tour I'd probably go and see them.

It's the exact opposite. The "old gits" will be at the "reunion" whilst people living in the present will be celebrating the new.

My guess is The Revolution won't be allowed to be called The Revolution.

Prince needs heart awareness that for sure

I'm still shocked that Prince can lay claim to the band names The Revolution, The Time or The Family. They're more or less everyday words - not like Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails or Radiohead.

Granted, most band names are just combination of words anyhow . . . but it seems that the livelihoods of the bandmembers could be brought up in court.

Majority rule isn't 'en vogue' in the USA.

How can P hold teh name if the members don't agree with him?

It was P and the Revolution.

So P was a separate entity from the Revolution.

P went his way.

So did the Revolution.

Then what about the Time and the Family?

He never ever was a member for some time of those bands.

Yes he wrote songs, but did he perform as part of those bands?

Was there ever a P and the Time? P and the Family?

So even less reason to have P 'hold on' to these names.

The members are, own the name.

Except in the USA where intellectual property is the word to turn a phantom into something to litigate about.

Prepare to be welcomed by the TSA. Do your own research on what that can mean.

I'll pass on that.

Have a nice stay there.
