Debiie Allen: "Telepathy". . .WTF???

This came on my iPod today I knew I had donwloaded it at some point but I guess I never listened to it.

All I can say is. . .. WTF??? Seriously.

Is that really she singing? It sounds like some weird, pre-auto-tune effect/tryin' to sound like Camille or something!!

I remember Debbie Allen singing a song or 2 on the Fame Tv show (she coudln't resist could she?) and her voice sounded nothing like that!

The song's instrumentation is weird too..... not quite the Linn, live horns? What era was this.... Grafitti Bridge??

Very odd.

The song is from 1987,so I guess we could say it was the SOTT era.

"...In 1987, Encouraged by her label, RCA, to explore and expand her musical horizons, Allen released a single penned by [Prince (musician). Prince ... aka ... Joey Coco] called "Telepathy". An album of the same name was also released, which showcased an even more musically adventurous side of Deborah with cutting edge pop instrumentation. Her willingness to trust her labels advice and her belief her new music created some slight confusion in her Country audience. In 1987 Allen released her last single for RCA, "You're the Kind of Trouble"..."

Deborah Allen - Wikipedia...cyclopedia

edit : yeah, so it refers to the country singer instead of the Fame dancer, lol

I think it's a weak song, especially compared to the great tunes that Prince was giving to other artists during that era.

I've always liked this song. It's the only Deborah Allen track I've ever heard.

Would love to hear Prince's version.

falloff You're not alone originally thinking it was Debbie Allen from Fame (the sister of Phylicia Rashad, Mrs. Huxtable). I thought that for the longest time.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I love Deborah Allen's music. She has had a few country/pop hits score on the country charts in the 80's and 90's. Telepathy is a great track.

I've never been crazy about the actual song, I really don't gravitate to the post-SOTT/Black Album sound, it starts to get really sparse and plodding - BUT, I really like the instrumentation and flow of 'Telepathy', it sounds like G-Spot, and would fit well as a Jill Jones b-side or something. biggrin

Debbie Allen of Fame fame had a song out called Special Look in 1988.

She had an album out too. She was signed to MCA.

I actually like this song (well aspects of it).

I think Sheena would've killed it. It just went to the wrong person.

Very Sheena.
