All dressed in white aboard an airport bridal chariot Thursday, the newlyweds whizzed down the Red Concourse on their way to a working honeymoon in Hawaii. Elise Fisher of St. Paul had just watched her husband's plane take off "when down came Prince in a couple of carts with his entourage and his lovely new bride," Mayte. "She was very beautiful. They were both wearing all white, and he's way tinier than she is. He's just tiny next to her - not necessarily shorter. She's not a large woman or anything, but he was just so small. I can't get over it," Fisher said. "Nobody was really paying him any attention." You'd think his dark glasses would have attracted attention. "He had on these huge sunglasses that were jewel-encrusted." The only reason that Fisher noticed the airport chariot was because "my 3-year-old daughter, Madeline . . . was trying to run in front of it." College could have been paid for.

Flower girl tells all

Word is that "Show & Tell" at one Edina elementary school was more star-studded than usual Thursday. The first little flower girl at Prince's wedding told all she could remember. She described what she wore, what Prince wore, how much fun it was, how great the music was and how There weren't too many people there. She said she wasn't supposed to say why she was getting out of school early on Valentine's Day - earning kudos from her teacher for knowing how to keep a secret. The parent who tipped me off thinks this kid was enlisted because her dad was a musician friend of Prince's. Another mother is trying to confirm a report that some of the flower girls, reportedly selected from a dance school, were hired.

Seniors partied down

Security was so tight for Prince's wedding that even the seniors attending a Valentine's Day party at Park Avenue United Methodist Church were not spared. The senior group gets together every month, complete with entertainment, said Barbara Cecil, who set up for the noon-to-3 party. "We could have just skipped the entertainment," she joked. Cecil was more interested in seeing the 20 homing pigeons that were released after the wedding than the groom's bird, Mayte. "I went upstairs by the front door; I was going to film the birds, but one of his bodyguards saw me with a camera and just about had a fit. I said, `I'm not going to take his picture; I'm going outside to take {a picture of} the birds when they release them.' And he said You just can't take pictures or I'll be fired on the spot, and then I'll have to come live at your house. And you'll have to take care of me. He said I've worked for other people before who want privacy but this guy is REALLY STRICT about it. Cecil was in the basement and in the wrong end of the church to see Prince's back-door arrival, but other partygoers got a peek. "I can understand his {desire for} privacy, but I would have thought when the wedding was over, he would have come outside and at least let those waiting to see him, see him. They're his fans," she said. "One of the gals in the church thought maybe when they were gone, she could go up and take a picture of the church. And someone came out and said Absolutely not; he doesn't even want you to take a picture of the church when everyone's gone. Totally churlish, but it was his wedding.

Emergency call for coffee

Coffee for guests at the Prince and Mayte wedding was either an afterthought or a forgotten thought. The Starbuck's coffee outpost at 25th and Riverside got a frantic phone call at noon saying the beverage was needed at 12:30 p.m. for the church reception. Assume that a later delivery would have interfered with the skulduggery surrounding the arrival of wedding guests and the bride and groom. WCCO-TV's Kevyn Burger reported that coffee deliverers were too tight-lipped to disclose the blends. Delivered were eight air pots of Yukon Blend and Caffe Verona, a Valentine's blend.

C.J.'s perfectly qualified

"C.J., I just wonder why you're so down on Prince. What qualifications do you have to say he's a jerk on TV? My name is Pat." Dear Pat: I'm a gossip columnist and sometimes a jerk, so I recognize the behavior. I believe Prince could have had a last-minute church wedding in Minneapolis that almost nobody would have noticed. But he wanted to manipulate the locals with that request for crowd control; nice to see only a measly 200 curiosity seekers, many of whom were media types. Over and over I'm hearing that it wouldn't have cost him anything to wave to the crowd. If they didn't want their clothes or faces on camera, they could have waved from behind the canopy. That would have been a charming touch. The crowd was not unruly, and there were lots of cops around. Although it won't work out this way, I'd be satisfied not to write another word about Prince until he lands some Marines on the beach, if you get my drift, and the pregnancy of Mayte is proclaimed. That's reportedly a main objective of this marriage. With skimpy outfits and near-0 percent body fat, she won't be able to hide that for nine months.

HEARTBROKEN rock idol Prince let the last breath of life slip away from his handicapped newborn son, the child's nanny revealed last night.

The tiny baby-Boy Gregory- had been born with a range of crippling conditions and was on a ventilator.

But his father could not bear to see his pride and joy in such pain.

Erlene Mojica, employed to look after Boy when Prince, 38, and his wife Mayte, 23, had been full of hope, said: "Prince told me, 'Nanny, this is not the kind of life I want for my baby.

" 'We have to convince Mayte to let the baby go. We're not having the tracheotomy (a throat operation to allow breathing) . We're going to switch the machine off and if the baby makes it, fine. If not, we have to let it go'.

"Prince then brought in Mayte and spoke to her. She started to weep."

Erlene asked her boss if he would be there when the baby was taken off the ventilator. Desperate to keep his emotions in check, he told her: "No, just let me know when it's done."

Outfit

The date of Boy Gregory's tragic death is emblazoned on Erlene's memory...October 23, 1996.

"It started at about 7.30am," she said. "We'd dressed Boy in a special outfit of white. The doctor kept checking his heart and blood pressure every 15 minutes.

"Twice the phone rang, my twin sister Arlene answered it and Prince asked her, 'Is it done?" Twice she told him the baby was still alive.

"About 8.45am, the child lifted his head, then stopped breathing."

Arlene Mojica added: "I rang Prince and said, 'Sir, everything is done, the baby is dead. What do you want us to do with him?'

"That was when Prince asked us to have the child cremated."

Boy Gregory had been born with a skull deformity called Pfeiffer's Syndrome. The skull fissures close prematurely and leave little room for it to accommodate the growing brain.

The mite also had water on the brain, intestinal and eye problems.

In the short week he lived, he had already had an operation on his left eyelid, and a colostomy, before Prince cried, Enough.

Erlene and Arlene, 26, had become close to expectant mum Mayte and shared the joys and worries of her pregnancy.

Arlene revealed: "Mayte told me she'd discovered she was pregnant by using a kit from a pharmacy. But she said Prince had forbidden her from seeing a doctor for the first two and a half months of the pregnancy."

That was the first intimation that the proud father was determined to care for his family in his own way- however bizarre it seemed to others.

Arlene added: "He also put her on a strict vegetarian diet, allowing her no fish or meat, rice or even fruit.

"Eventually she persuaded him she should have a sonogram (an ultra-sound scan) . He said he wouldn't allow any male doctor to touch his wife. So a female doctor did it.

"That was when it was revealed that the baby had an abnormally large head and could possibly be born with deformities."

The physician, said Arlene, was Dr Leslie Jaeger, who became increasingly exasperated with Prince. Meanwhile, she said, Mayte's diet was leaving her hungry. I used to sneak her out to a TGI Friday's restaurant so she could eat chicken and fish," Arlene went on. "We told Prince that Mayte was going to have her nails done.

"She was so worried he'd discover that she'd been eating meat that she used to swab her hands with alcohol cleansing fluid to remove any trace of food residue."

At three to four months into the pregnancy, said Arlene, Mayte was in pain and had to be taken into an emergency room during a trip to New York.

Nervous

Later, back in Minneapolis, Prince was told about it and put it down to Mayte's nervousness .

"But Dr Jaeger at North Memorial Hospital was concerned because Mayte was retaining water and wanted her to go to a specialist," Arlene went on.

"She told Mayte that her options included having a full chromosome test to see what the problem was, to have a termination, or to go ahead and have the child." At the end of July, Erlene joined her sister on Prince's staff.

Taking up the story, Erlene revealed: "Mayte had another sonogram, but was so worried Prince would find out that Arlene's name was put on the scan photograph.

"Although Prince loved Mayte very much, I don't think he really understood what was at stake. He believed that essentially it was God who cured people, not medicine."

In late September Mayte began to experience severe contractions.

The twins took her to North Memorial Hospital where she was seen once again by Dr Jaeger.

Erlene went on: "Dr Jaeger was insistent that we had to call Prince because it was an emergency-even though Mayte didn't want him to know she was there.

"When he arrived Dr Jaeger told him, 'Your wife is having contractions, I'll have to give her magnesium to delay the contractions because if she goes into labour we could miscarry the child now'.

"Prince told Dr Jaeger to leave the room. She told him, 'Prince, you're not allowing me to do my job. This is bad news. We have to deal with it'.

"At this point Mayte was quivering, Prince was upset, and moved towards the doctor-I even thought he might be going to strike her because he was so distraught."

Security

Sister Arlene added: "I had to jump between Prince and the doctor, along with one of Prince's security guards. She was livid, and said: 'I'm calling security, I'm the boss here, not you. You cannot take this woman out of the hospital without a release'.

"Eventually Prince signed a form saying he was taking her out, and the doctor told me, 'I believe she's in danger, please get her into a hospital SOMEWHERE , and now!' " The twins helped Mayte into Prince's limo. A few miles down the road, said Erlene, Prince asked the driver to stop, turned to his passengers and said: "Nanny, what are we going to do?" She replied: "Mayte's got to be in hospital."

Erlene continued: "I told him that Abbott's North-Western Hospital had excellent facilities so he said, 'OK. But I don't want them to know it's my wife. Make up a story, say it's some woman from Florida'.

"We got her in and after examining her, they said that she had to have magnesium to delay a premature birth."

"Prince was outside in the limo and we were rushing down relaying messages while his wife lay in pain.

"Eventually he agreed and she was given injections, the contractions slowed and she stayed in the hospital from that moment until three days before the baby's death on October 23. We registered her at her request under an assumed name. We initially chose the name Marlene Gong, then the next day we changed it to something more suitable.

"We chose Gregory for the second name because it's similar to Gregorio, a doctor in Argentina famous for his work with the poor, and Mia for the first -because that was the name of a Yorkshire terrier Prince had bought her.

Surgical

"It soon became clear to the hospital who she was, but the name was kept so that her anonymity could be assured."

Boy Gregory was born by Caesarean section on October 16.

The twins claim that although Prince wanted to be present at the birth he DID NOT want to put on special surgical clothes.

Arlene recalled: "Eventually a doctor told him, 'It's simple. You don't put those clothes on, you don't go in'." Prince gave in and watched his son being born. The baby was transferred to the adjoining Children's Health Care Hospital where he was put into an incubator.

"Prince was crying," Arlene recalled. "He was just standing there sobbing. He told me, 'I'll bring anyone from anywhere...whatever it takes and whatever it costs, to help my child'."

But even Prince's many millions could not buy his precious son a release from pain.

And the twins, who became worried that the decision to take Boy Gregory off the ventilator might have been premature, reported their concerns to the police.

A police spokesman said they were carrying out a routine investigation. He added: "The homicide detectives investigate all deaths considered suspicious by them or by others who may bring a complaint.

"Some of those deaths may later be ruled accidental or natural. We have no further comment as yet."

There's apparently no reason to feel sorry this holiday season for Abbott Northwestern nurses rumored to have lost their jobs for discussing Prince's and Mayte's baby. The firings are very popular untrue gossip. James Bialke, the labor relations guy for the Minnesota Nurses Association, checked last week and found "no discipline, no terminations, no grievances" related to this issue. Such actions are possible, he said, because "health care workers, nurses and doctors, are pledged to confidentiality." Interestingly enough, there are also limits to what health care workers can discuss among themselves. "Only people who are directly involved with patients are supposed to know about patients. That's just a professional protocol in health care, and everybody expects that," he said. Soooo those rumored confidentiality/nondisclosure documents that Prince may have had hospital personnel file are superfluous. . . .

One medical insider said a doctor passed on caring for Mayte because the confidentiality paperwork was absolutely ridiculous. What people in the music biz who've had to sign these things should remember is that in that arena they are probably not worth much because it is highly unlikely that Prince would personally go to court to enforce one. And eventually he would have to show. Oh yeah, and those documents are often unenforceable.

Pop star Prince's wife Mayte appears in public for the first time since her two-week-old baby died a month ago.

The 22-year-old was on her way to a nightclub in Miami.

Pals of Prince say he is working hard to shut out the grief. He is busy recording and has a new album out.

BOOZE-SODDEN rock idol Prince was rushed to hospital after his limp body was found slumped on a couch over four empty wine bottles and a tub of pills.

The horrifying discovery was made by his panic-stricken wife Mayte who screamed: "Oh my God, he's dead!"

Mayte and her bodyguard Arlene Mojica tried desperately to rouse the singer. Eventually they got him to utter a few words.

Then, as Arlene rushed ahead to alert the Fairview-Northdale hospital in Minneapolis, Mayte helped the dazed singer to a car and got him to the emergency room.

He was quickly fitted with an intravenous drip. A medic took the women to one side and asked urgently: "Was it a suicide bid?"

But, like much of this supertalent's life, the answer remains a riddle.

All Mayte and Arlene knew for sure was that Prince had been missing for 72 hours before they found him in his recording studio last year.

Drink

"We don't know how long he'd been drinking or how many aspirins he'd taken," says Arlene. "But he'd clearly vomited and that may have saved his life, bringing up the tablets. He told the doctor From STUART WHITE in Minneapolis he'd taken drink and pills to stop heart palpitations."

That night Arlene had a few palpitations of her own.

As she slept in the corridor outside Prince's room, she heard him cry out: "What am I doing here?"

She recalled: "I rushed in and Prince had woken up yelling, 'What's going on? Get me out of here!'

"He pulled the drip from his arm, jumped in a wheelchair and got me to drive him home." But it was just another night's work for 26-year-old Arlene, who with her twin Erlene, the family's nanny, had grown used to the wacky world of Prince.

Last week the Puerto Rican sisters revealed how the heartbroken star reluctantly asked for the plug to be pulled on his baby son's life support.

The little mite had been born with a catalogue of crippling conditions and his father could not bear to see him suffer any more pain.

But while his distress showed he was all too human, in his private life he remained bizarre and remote.

Although he likes the public to refer to him as a squiggle, or The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, at home he expects to be treated like a king, said the twins.

Members of staff MUST call him "Sir".

Vampire

And the twins revealed how his oddball image sometimes took on a menacing hue as he adopted a 'vampire' lifestyle.

He worked all night and, in short winter days, never glimpsed sunlight.

"Day in and day out it was the same," Arlene shuddered.

"He'd get up about 4pm when it was getting dark. Then he'd be driven to his studio, not getting home until 7am before it got light. He was like a creature of the night."

And when the great sexual showman, now aged 38, did make it into bed 23-year-old wife Mayte was often disappointed.

"She was worried about their love life," added Arlene.

"She said Prince wasn't the macho rock star between the sheets.

"Instead, she said he expressed the gentler feminine side of his nature."

But the tiny, weight-obsessed rocker made up for that by bossing his wife around the rest of the time- especially over her figure.

"She was under Prince's spell," revealed Arlene. "He almost controlled her. He once got in the limo after a show and said, 'Your butt's too big! You're too fat!'

"From then on Mayte was dieting constantly. But there was no way she could eat less than Prince or be thin enough for him.

"That man ate less than any human I ever saw-some days just a cup of rice. Often nothing for three days.

"There wasn't an ounce of excess flesh on him, but his eating habits didn't seem healthy to me.

"He took pills containing herbs and extracts of the alfalfa plant. He was hung up on his digestive system.

Purple

"I believe it's important to tell the world what kind of man Prince is.

"He intimidates those who work for him.

"And not only did he dismiss my sister and I with no compensation he didn't even pay us the wages we'd worked for."

Although Prince's wealth from smash hit albums like Purple Rain has been estimated at Pounds 50 million, Arlene claimed that the way he ran his household and business, Paisley Park Enterprises, gave every impression that he was going BROKE ! "We kept getting complaints from local tradesmen about bills not being paid," she said.

But the staff were used to trouble.

Arlene said Prince could be brutal if crossed and revealed: "He once declared, 'Anybody who says NO to me is out!' "

Meanwhile Erlene's contract stated: "Hours: On call 24 hours per day, seven days per week."

And she complained: "He'd scream and shout at the slightest upset."

But the sisters are grateful for one thing. They were not required to live in the showbiz couple's house-a large, modern building at the end of a long drive in the suburbs.

"It was a strange place," said Arlene.

"There were a lot of windows but no pictures or paintings.

"The effect was stark and bare. I only recall one portrait-an enormous photo of Prince and Mayte." But one room will always hold a poignant memory for the Mojica twins...the nursery that was to be home for Prince's tragic baby son. The nursery that would not be used.

"It was bizarre because all the walls were mirrored," recalled Erlene sombrely.

"So as far as I could tell the baby would have been constantly looking at reflections of itself.

Obsessed

"And I don't recall seeing any toys there."

Sister Arlene added: "I worked for Prince and Mayte from the summer of 1995 until December 1996, and I'll never forget it.

"He's a strange man who's so obsessed with being a rock star that he can't let anything divert him.

"Not love, not marriage, not food.

"But underneath it all Prince is just a deeply unhappy man. I feel so sorry for him."

Prince's curbside chat with his `biggest enemy' // Chance conversation outside Paisley Park runs the gamut: sex, God, Mayte, the baby

Chanhassen's most famous citizen has been such a chatterbox of late that it was only a matter of time before he yakked me up. It wasn't a planned thing, mind you. But the way Prince sees the world, he'd probably say it was meant to be.

For 45 minutes we chatted and sparred about worldly and otherworldly things: Mayte, marriage, sex, God; and was I a girlfriend from his past? On a lighter note, at least for me, Prince declared me his "biggest enemy."

He interviewed me as much as vice versa, according to my friend, witness, and the person responsible for this close encounter, Beverly Cochran. Beverly is a childhood friend I met at a small Presbyterian church in Albany, Ga. She had come to spend the Memorial Day holiday with me . . . and to see Prince. She knew the odds. She was playfully planning to fabricate a story for her friends back in Atlanta about meeting Prince at Paisley Park but not getting a picture of him because he is famously camera-shy.

Make-believe came dangerously close to reality. Accommodating host that I am, I dutifully drove Beverly to Chanhassen and pointed out the house where I believed Prince lives. (Do not call 332-TIPS to ask where.)

At that moment, a sports car with superdark tinted windows roared down the drive. The driver followed my car, and from my rearview mirror I could see his hands on the steering wheel. It was enough for me to make a positive ID: I know his hands, his knuckles, his fingernails, his cuticles.

With his thumbs wrapped under the steering wheel, he used his fingers to make a move-it-buster gesture. Cooperative as ever, I slowed down. He whipped by us, only to have us catch up at the next light. Lowering his window, he stuck his hand out and made a series of graceful gestures: Was he moving to music or testing my proficiency at interpreting gang signs? His face was visible, reflected in his side-view mirror.

Take a picture of the car, I ordered. Beverly, daughter of a famous portrait photographer, was transfixed and fumbled around before the camera finally clicked. With the green light, we both took off again. We both headed to Paisley Park (our next tourist stop). He zipped into Paisley. I parked on the street outside - having been kicked out of there before, I wasn't about to get into trouble for trespassing. But when I spied his vehicle positioned just inside Paisley, I got out of my car so he could see his pursuer. Bingo. He pulled out and parked right behind my car.

I walked over. He lowered his car window. Beverly came over with a camera in hand. "No pictures!" he said. Even though his eyes were hidden behind dark glasses with a glyph on the temple, there was flight in his voice. I stashed the camera back in my car.

You have Beverly to thank for the rest. Sincerely, she told Prince how much she loves his music and how gifted he is. Somehow, the conversation turned to me. He said he didn't recognize me. Peering over my dark glasses (with no symbol on the side), I revealed my eyes and identity. "Billy!" Prince said, in a playfully yet condescendingly familiar growl. Proof that "Billy Jack Bitch" was written in my honor?

I was surprised he didn't snap his car in gear that minute. But somehow, he and Beverly got into a discussion of the "Celestine Prophecy." Both had read it and found it incredible. "I can't believe you have a friend I like!" said Prince.

Of God and judgments

God came up. I admitted to a belief in a higher power. "Where do you think God is? Where is he?" asked Prince, draping his arm out of the car to motion to the surroundings. "I think that God is in all of us," said Beverly. Prince loved that, adding, "it takes all of us knowing God before he'll manifest himself." My turn: Did God approve of his sexually explicit lyrics (not to mention the simulated sex on stage)? "Sex is the door-opener," he said, "once you open the door. . . . "

More godly talk ensued, with Prince growing more impressed with Beverly. "What are you here for? " he asked me. I told him I was here to have fun - he was not impressed - and that in my job, I also liked to remind people how we should behave.

"Oh, you're a judger. You like to judge, and you shouldn't, because one day you will be judged," the Rev. Prince said. I plan to do enough good to merit a decent evaluation.

"Why don't you like me?" asked Prince. I told him I didn't like the way he behaved. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are big-time musicmakers, and yet they go out and act like normal people. "I'm not Jimmy Jam and Terry," he said. "I thought you hated me because you were an old girlfriend."

I ripped off my sunglasses so he'd get a good look at a face that does not radiate the exquisite beauty of his protegees Carmen Electra, Apollonia or Mayte. "It's what's inside," he said, tapping his chest.

Of Mayte and fate

I'm not doubting what's inside his wife (Mayte must have the soul of a saint to live with this guy), but I doubt he could read her innards at first sight. Prince admitted that marriage was the last thing on his mind when he met Mayte: "I didn't want to get married. Get married? Me? I wasn't looking to get married."

But he couldn't ignore the signs. Mayte is like Mattie, his mom's name. Mayte's mom's name is Nell, and when he married Mayte he became son of Nell; his family name is Nelson. He said his dad's name was John L. - Jannell is Mayte's middle name. My eyes glazed over; I have never understood predicating an important decision like marriage on a name game. I believe he also said both his dad and Mayte's dad's names were John. That's a cosmic coincidence? But Prince clearly believes there is much to this and his discovery of Mayte as "my soul mate." I suggested that he sought a soul mate who was gorgeous.

I'm not Billy?

Despite greeting me as Billy and using the "Billy Jack Bitch" theme "you lie" on me, he maintained that the song was not about me at all. More intelligent types than yours truly - KMSP-TV and Impact, a national radio-biz publication - concluded the song was an attack on me: "What if I called you silly names . . . just like the ones that you call me . . . " Names, you know, such as Symbolina.

And while we're talking about lying, "You lied on Oprah," I parried. I didn't go into the lies of commission and of omission on the birth and death certificates of his baby boy. But I said I was bothered that he reportedly told "Entertainment Tonight" that the birth of his baby was "amazing." "Look up amazing in the dictionary," he advised.

He called me his "biggest enemy," but said he had no ill will toward me. He said he dated a cheerleader named Cheryl Johnson - here we go again with the names - in the 11th grade at Central High in Minneapolis. Prince said that people named Johnson have been either his best friends or his great enemies. He mentioned enemy and former rocker Rick James, whose real last name is Johnson according to Prince, and Jesse Johnson, a former Time guitarist who I believe was characterized as a former friend.

No hard feelings

I told him I've enjoyed some of his music, and I know he's a musical genius. I also tried to make the point that no self-respecting gossip columnist could ignore a local celeb of his worldwide stature. Despite our mutual lack of animosity, Prince refused to allow a photo of himself and Beverly. But not because he was camera-shy. When another Atlanta resident visiting the metro happened by with her relatives and asked for a picture, Prince acquiesced. Beverly wanted to know why she was refused a picture. "You're with her," he said, pointing at me. And she must be punished for that, I replied.

Ladies and gentlemen, kids of all ages, it's official - Prince will talk to anybody.

Prince's split

THE Artist Formerly Known As Prince's marriage to Mayte Garcia seems to be going the way of pal Mel B's - it has hit the rocks.

Wife Mayte is being comforted by Spanish dancer Joaquim Cortes, former lover of model Naomi Campbell.

I'm told that Mayte has been in Spain with new pal Joaquim, 27, after falling out with the Purple One. They are desperately trying to patch up their love after three years of married life. The break-up comes just days after Mel's marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar hit trouble.

Bonded

Mel is currently in AFKAP's home town Minneapolis to start her solo album. They are expected to meet up after hitting it off last year when the Spice Girl interviewed AFKAP - or Prince for short - for a Channel 4 documentary.

Sources on the show were amazed by how well the couple bonded and said they were flirting throughout.

A source close to Prince said: "It is a difficult time for both of them and there have been problems. They just need a breather from one another.

"She and Joaquim are pretty friendly and he has become a shoulder to cry on." Last year AFKAP, now 40, announced that he and his Puerto Rican bride were annulling their three-year marriage because he does not believe in any "contract held by social conventions."

They originally hitched in February 1996 in Minneapolis. In November 1996, their week-old son died from a rare bone disorder.

THE Artist We Still Call Prince and his on-again, off-again wife Mayte had a spat over the weekend that could spell the end of their rocky relationship.

The fuschia-loving funkster showed up at hotspot Float at about 2 a.m. Sunday looking for his bewitching bride. She was ensconced in a third-floor private lounge packed with pals like Victoria's Secret stunner Karen Mulder, designer Roberto Cavalli with model Catina Porter on his arm, ID Models maestro Paolo Zampoli and Float owner Max Burgio.

Sources tell PAGE SIX that Prince confronted Mayte on the club's downstairs dance floor and the two exchanged a few choice words over the future of their shaky union.

Twenty minutes later, the pop superstar stomped out of the club with a beefy bodyguard in tow, as Mayte went back upstairs to hang with her glittering gang until 4 a.m.

"They've always had an open relationship but now it's over," a close friend of Mayte told PAGE SIX. "She stays in New York City and Spain, and he lives in Minneapolis. It just isn't working."

This isn't the first time the couple have been on the outs. Mayte, a sexy former dancer for Prince's stage show, had their 1996 marriage annulled after two years, but later remarried The Artist "spiritually." This time, it looks like the two are splitting forgood. "Prince can get very jealous when Mayte goes out clubbing with her friends," says a source. "He has a very possessive side."

But The Artist hasn't always been able to play by his own rigid rules when it comes to their relationship.

The diminutive dynamo has squired MTV veejay Ananda Lewis and Desray, who appeared in the video for his song, "Greatest Romance Ever Sold." Prince fell for Desray after spotting her in a chorus line of strippers at the Crazy Horse in Paris.

But Prince's publicist, Lois Najarian, says she wouldn't count out the couple just yet. "Whenever I see them together, it's sheer love," she told us. "If they had a spat - sometimes that happens between couples."

Najarian said the pair had their marriage annulled only because Prince "is very anti-contract. He didn't want to own her through a legal contract. He wants her to be free. I don't know how to characterize their marriage. It's a spiritual bond they have."

"They really are blissfully happy to my knowledge."

"And the twins revealed how his oddball image sometimes took on a menacing hue as he adopted a 'vampire' lifestyle.

Anyone who worked for Prince at that time can attest that he was a very special character to live with and work for day in and day out and no one's life was easy under his thumb back then. Just glad to see that everyone's recovered from that messiness and moved on with their lives. They all seem happy and healthy now, and that's what matters most in life.

I was shocked by some of things written in these articles. Like calling Mayte fat i can't really believe he would do that, and that he did not barely eat. I know he has always been small but he could not live on one cup of rice a day and sometimes then not eat for days. Mind you these articles were written in the Nighties

and i have seen pictures of him then and he was very tiny.

Wow @ those articles. Wow at the total and absolute control that he allegedlly had over young...oh so young Mayte. Wow at him strictly controling her diet so much so that she had to go outside of the home and "sneak meals. Wow @ him almost physically confronting Mayte's doctor because she wanted to do her job and save the baby. Wow @ Mayte not being able to even enjoy her pregnancy because she was hungry, and basically denied by her own husband the ability to seek early preventative care. Wow @ not being there when your son, your own flesh and blood deceased living in this world out of protection of your own ego. Wow @ the mirrors in the baby's room which could have potentially subconsciously created yet another narcissist. Wow @ the taking an overdose of aspirn and wine to quiet heart palpitations when all you had to do was see your doctor. WOWOWOWO!

But even with all of that. Actually, none of it surprises me. Once you meet a true Narcissist (in the clinical sense) especially a Narcissist with money and power, the signs start to look all too familiar. Wow. See with Prince, I really have to make a concious effort to just "stick to the music" or else he can really turn you off. But then again, I was never a fanatic.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Whoa!!!! That's some deep thinking. and way back thinking too.

Me myself is that Prince is a musician (music) and the man 2000-with his wife is an other (personal)

So sometimes you have too seperate the two, musican that plays and arranged song and the one that ain't my business. Because you will want anyone you 'respect' to be with' "anyone" 'that makes them happy.. I call that" universal love". Changing a person because of their needs i think thats wrong. 'Fanantic is seeing that person as an obsession'..are you a fanatic ?y "Prince's personal "

life. And reels no disrespect you are really on this, is like you are sacred of something. Some of Prince's fans would love to see him with whom he wants to be with." Personal" and i mean this with all respect, that some very' "attractive women" 'are turn off by Prince. Because of those 'statements.' But Prince doesn't care .... (I guess) So you have to think either you are going top life in the' past 'about Prince relationship or to the future.. Personal thats his 'life.' I want Prince to be happy with anyone he wants to be with.... not personal /not fammy/ / fanatic/ crazy/dum

Wow, those articles are crazy. (finally got around to reading all of them lol) It makes me sad. sad Is this all true? Because that whole situation with the wine and pills sounds like a suicide attempt to me.

"I pride myself on working with great musicians, and I consider her to be as such. She's an amazing talent, the real deal." Prince on Beyoncé ♥

I read all of the articles too which were very interesting, I must admit. Howeve, the "officialmayte" has just joined the org. She posted in the thread about her new bellydance dvd. It made me feel weird for reading the articles which divulged such personal information.

Sometimes we (or I), don't think of them real people with feelings, until they somehow come into your hemisphere.

So, for the people who have read and commented on the articles... or have commented on other wives and protoges. Knowing that they are aware of and probably read this site. How does that make you feel?

Still no answer from no one...ok

unless you are Prince, Larry, or Bria..no one has said anything derogatory about them...especially not Mayte. as for the question, i don't think it's about feeling anything. you're just posting information or commenting to posted information. now, with this particular thread and one other (which was talking about Prince having Mani redecorate PP while Mayte was sent to the home in Spain) were two threads that I thought would be especially hurtful to revisit if you were Mayte. I honestly don't think we as orgers really needed to know such intimate details about her marriage to Prince. but we will read whatever is put out and some will comment accordingly.

The first time I read these it really bothered me eek I found myself not listening to Prince for awhile and then I had to put things into perspective-he is just a human being. He has said recently that he has made mistakes-whether all this is true or not who knows? We all know about the baby and that is truly sad. After all this and then that fiasco of a marriage to Mani it is understandable that Prince needed help! Obviously he was in a mental hell and Larry Graham helped him find his way out of it eek If all this besides the baby is true, then Prince really was messed up! As a fan, that makes me sad, but as a human being I understand. I hope he and Mayte are better people today because of all this and I hope they have made peace with their baby's life and death.
