Prince must have been ready to embrace religion with a little more seriousness than before in his life. He always had people in his life that were more religious (in practice) than he was such as Vanity, Dez, Gayle Chapman. I don't think it's Larry Graham's fault but that Larry was there at a specific point in Prince's life that he needed to find that part of himself.

pray pray pray pray pray

I find it sad that anyone would need to turn to a tightly controlled organization to find fulfillment. If the Almighty is within you, how is belonging to a club supposed to do anything for you? IMO it hinders more than helps.

Maybe an excerpt from this book will shed some light.

http://www.patrycechocletbanks.com/

DEJA VIEW (excerpt)

"Can you handle it?"...the bass is thumping, David's guitar rides the rhythm, Willie beats the drums into submission, hanging with Larry stroke for stroke. Butch and Hershall on both ends of the stage, fingers flying, capturing every note on the scale.

Fonk is so thick in the air, you can smell it. The crowd is grooving hard, faces reflecting their struggle to hang, as Graham Central Station relentlessly drives on. "Can you handle it?" ...the lyrics ask. In my mind, I ask myself the same question.

Here I stand in front of thousands of people as the female lead singer of the premier funk band, Graham Central Station. Larry Graham is the leader, and my man. The crowd sees me, the funk diva. My outfit is "Glam Funk" all the way. Silver sequined gown with a plunging neck line stopping just above my belly button...hair cascading to my waist...silver and rhinestone, custom made platforms...turquoise and silver rings on every finger, silver bangles on both arms up to my elbows --- and dark sunglasses.

What they can't see is the blackness surrounding my right eye, competing with the blackness of the lens of the glasses.

A fake smile attempts to convince the audience of "Fonkateers", that it's all good. I want them to think the shades are hiding how high I am. I would rather they think I was too high, than know the truth. The ring of bruises and blackness, is the result of an assualt --- a violent, abusive act committed by the same hand playing the thundering bass, the hand of the man I loved.

Now we know why Larry made a song called "Pow!"

Wow, I would have NEVER taken Larry for a beater. He is alway portrayed as very mild mannered. I wonder when the whole JW thing happened for him, hopefully it was after his relationship with this singer and not while it was still going on. Hope Tina has it better thats for sure

Oh, I don't know...

Maybe because he practically INVENTED Funk Bass.

Oh wait. It's not about the music, is it?

Actually, if you want to blame someone for the JW stuff, go after Sinbad, he's the one who got Larry! lol

Larry is a VERY nice guy in person and you can't deny his talent. Prince is a big boy who can make his own decisions. Some of us don't like how this has affected his music, but I'd rather him be at peace with himself (well, as much as is possible with him anyway...) than being whatever we want him to be.

The only lyrical change that I can't just think "oh, whatever..." to, is The Cross. Prince needs his ass checked on that one! spank

No if u want to blame some one about Prince becoming a JW It is Prince.About 5 years or so ago, Iread that Prince became a JW because he wanted to pleased his mom who was dying. It was like her last wish.

So because you read that somewhere, that makes it true? He was meeting with Larry way before his mom died and she was supposedly Seventh Day Adventist, not JW.

Ultimately I think the guy was just needing a spiritual home and Larry opened the door to the Witnesses.

WHERE WAS FARRAH FAWCETT????

Had she gotten to him with her brand of Catholism we'd have gotten two nude layout and one ROCKING body paint video that would be played over and over again into infinity.

No, It doesnt.Ireally dont care what his mother was.All i was doing was stating my own personal opinion on an article Iread and sharing it with others. Unlike some people on here Ido try to give where i recieve my info from.Iread about Prince turning into a JW from an internet article about 5-7 plus years ago.The article also mentioned that Prince was married "secretly married" to the then unknown Manuela in the JW faith.

I was hoping that my comment would lighten things up!!!! P slathered in body paint creates quite a good mental image.

Meanwhile I too have wondered about the things that I have read saying that Prince's mother wanted him to be a Jehovah's Witness. If she changed from being a Seventh Day Adventist to a JW she did so very late in life which is unusual.

Anyway I have heard through the JW grapevine that P took quite a while to become a JW so he really thought about it and hardly was pushed into it by Larry or anybody else. It does make sense to me however that his mother's wishes would be more effective in getting him to find a spiritual home. Wasn't the man especially close to his mother??
