Vanity-some questions about her

Hey guys! I'm a Vanity fan, even though I was very young when she was ending her career, so I don't know her whole story. I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to answer some of my questions about her? Thanks!!

1. I know Vanity dated Prince, Adam Ant and Nikki Six, and was rumoured to have dated Rick James. Did she date anyone else famous?

2. Who were some of Vanity's famous friends?

3. I know about the whole Prince/Vanity/Apollonia thing. What surprised me was that on this site, there is a pic of Vanity and Apollonia smiling together!! Were they friends?

4. I know that in 1988, Motown was sold and Vanity was one of the acts that was dropped. If you go on to youtube and watch her MTV club performance of "Undress" and mini-interview after, she mentions that she was working on new music-I'm guessing her 3rd album was never released?

5. After Vanity stopped recording music and making big-time films, I know she did several guest appearances on tv shows. I think the last of those was in '92. Does anyone know what she did from '92 to her overdose in '94?

Thanks again to those of you who know the answers!!

1. I know Vanity dated Prince, Adam Ant and Nikki Six, and was rumoured to have dated Rick James. Did she date anyone else famous? In early 1984,months before her debut solo album was released, she was often spotted at L.A. nightclubs with Micki Free of Shalamar.Another time, she was spotted with Andre Cymone.

2. Who were some of Vanity's famous friends? Eddie Murphy was a close friend. She also remained close to Morris Day and Andre Cymone.

3. I know about the whole Prince/Vanity/Apollonia thing. What surprised me was that on this site, there is a pic of Vanity and Apollonia smiling together!! Were they friends? I've seen that picture.I don't think they were ever close friends, but they proved that they could be civil to each other.

4. I know that in 1988, Motown was sold and Vanity was one of the acts that was dropped. If you go on to youtube and watch her MTV club performance of "Undress" and mini-interview after, she mentions that she was working on new music-I'm guessing her 3rd album was never released? Yeah, she was working on a new album in 1988.I heard that it was tentatively titled 'Cherry Bomb',featuring tracks produced by Jam and Lewis and Tony LeMans. There's a rumor that Prince was gonna contribute a few tracks,as well.

5. After Vanity stopped recording music and making big-time films, I know she did several guest appearances on tv shows. I think the last of those was in '92. Does anyone know what she did from '92 to her overdose in '94? Around this time,I didn't really hear alot about Vanity.I do recall a cover story in Jet magazine in 1995,around the time that she married that football player.

Thanks again to those of you who know the answers!!

No, no and no. If you look at the picture, Apollonia doesn't seem very happy about Vanity's presence. They were NEVER friends, and I wouldn't be waiting around for them to show up arm in arm anywhere soon! lol

I am sure that the stuff that Jesse Johnson and Jam & Lewis were gonna cook up some funky stuff, i was waiting on that project, i am sure it would've been HOT! Wow! I wish someone would open the vaults and let us hear what they cooked up. I know i would have bought it! I'm sure that V is'nt Patti Labelle, but she had something that interested us.

I agree,Jam and Lewis could have given Vanity a kickass album.Janet Jackson isn't a great singer but she had the right producers and songs and was able to have hit records.Vanity just needed the right producer(s).

I thought she had the right producers. Have you forgotten what a major icon and musical influence she was on future R&B music? Her and Madonna ruled the charts. lol

I think that besides the funky "Under the Influence", Vanity should have chosen to release different singles from her albums, and "Undress" and "Faraway Eyes" should have been singles.

I do think her 3rd album could have had hits. As SoulAlive said, Janet Jackson isn't a great singer, but Jam & Lewis gave her so many hits. Interestingly, I think Vanity sounded a lot like Janet Jackson in "Undress".

"Undress" was a single. 12" too. She performed it on MTV. I guess her bandwagon didn't have enough room at the time. confused
