Sorry but I have to laugh at the "Wendy got a big head" comment. Anyone who knows her will tell you she's completely the opposite.

Well maybe now she is

I've actually never heard anything like that about Wendy. I know people who met her during the Parade era and they always said the same thing, she treated everyone like they were her closest friend. I know for a fact that none of the Revolution were too excited about Prince adding "Pips" to the Revolution. I know when I seen the Parade tour I was wishing they'd get out of Brownmark's way.

Well asccording to certain published books the way it went down was one night her and Lisa broke it down to Prince that they didnt like the direction the band etc was going..ice his friends. Now she may have had a point but this was Princes thing...dont get made a star and then trip on somoene elses thing. Yeah yeah yeah, they helped create his thing.

Prince always seems to write songs that sound like a Prince song. His work has become painfully complacent and self referential in recent years. He's simply going through the motions.

Come on--W&L dont sound like W&L?

Wendy & Lisa have maintined a great deal of integrity in their work because they write songs that reflect themselves at that moment, not "Wendy & Lisa". They're not worried about building upon their persona, they just write whatever touches them.

They have that luxury not to be knee deep in the biz...and when Prince does create what he feels in "his moment" people complain. Stop this.

Prince was a "Ghost Writer" on most of their earlier work and I hear his influence. I also am not such an "Irrational Hater" of Wendy & Lisa to realize that Lisa has influenced Prince's piano playing and classical music interests.

Now with that being said, most "W & L are better than Prince" Folks usually are these people:

a) Spoiled Caucasian fans who are bitter at P for his new stance on race (what really has changed?), Religion, and Politics.

b) Spoiled Caucasian fans who actually like the inclusion of a more white/pop/rock influence in P's sound
(which is reasonable).

c) Spoiled Caucasian and other fans who want Prince to shut-up because he is an artist of African American Heritage suing over the boots they want to make money from. What did your parents tell you? An African American cannot dismiss two artists who want to leave his group? To allow these artists to take his influence on them and capitalize off of Craze that was The "Minneapolis Sound"? He did them a favor(at the time). He was "The Boss!" Can he be "The Boss?" Uh..No..The Boss is Bruce Springsteen. Oh, Bruce dropped The E Street Band for nearly 17 years!

While attending High School, a Caucasian student told me that, "Prince wasn't doing anything worthwhile after W&L left". She forgot to mention Dr.Fink, (Morris Day, Prince's Father, Eric Leeds, Brownmark, Andre Cymone, Dez, who I felt as a much of a hand in Prince's development...)

Then I asked her "How many of Wendy & Lisa CD's do you own?"

You don't need to guess her answer ...

You might not like what I have to say, but it's more truthful than your false declarations of love for "Wendy & Lisa". Please don't use them (and their time with Prince) to serve your wicket hipocritial opinions of Prince's music.

You don't love Wendy & Lisa. You love jealousy, and hate.
They were a "great cog" in The Machine that was Prince and The Revolution (Get over it). If they did'nt enjoy their time with Prince, they should have left earlier (No Grammies, exposure, or movie). Gayle Chapman did.

Wendy And Lisa's albums are fantastic and the naysayers probably haven't even heard them. Prince's music seemed to have more balls and depth, not to mention was musically richer when they were around. You listen to their solo work and you can hear everything that made Prince's work with them so essential. Not to mention the majority of Prince's best work ocurred when either one or both of them were in the band. Eroica is better than any Prince album since 1988.

All I know is that Prince created the masterpieces Dirty Mind, Controversy, and 1999 without Wendy or Lisa's input. So to say that Prince is nothing without their influence is ignorant shit. And that's not to mention the great things that Prince alone brought to our ears after they left, like the Black Album, symbol, Gold Experience, The Truth, and Rainbow Children...

All of these albums I personally find infinitely more enjoyable than any of Wendy and Lisa's albums. Sorry, just don't dig their stuff...

For the record, it wasn't implied. I love all of Prince's music. And I will say I'm one of those who believe that Eroica and Girl Bros is superior to most of Prince's output after 1988. And you're right it's all opinions, but that's mine!

Off topic: for all Eroica's lovers , get this album if you can:"March" by Michael Penn (Aimé Mann's husband), it has the same vibe that Eroica (Michael Penn plays on Mother of Pearl, + The Girlbros are on March, the late Boni Boyer too, on one song I think.

Wendy and Lisa really seem to have been responsible for a great deal of the cool little touches in Prince's music when they were in the band. He was not the same after they left... it is not that he started to suck when they left, but there were a lot of melodic ideas and things that changed. I believe that they wrote or contributed a TON of things that were never credited to them.

Wendy and Lisa can't seem to get a break and don't sell many records, but their music is very heartfelt, creative and interesting.

Damn it... where are you SkeletonKee??? I need some backup on this one.

BTW: Skeleton Key is the funkiest song on "Eroica" in my opinion.

I think their material is very very...FLAT. They are totally overrated. Wendy's voice is weak. They are good musicians but could never come up with stuff like Sign O the Times or Rainbow Children that Prince produced, composed and arranged himself. People like you like to exagerate their influence on Prince's music and that's kinda annoying.

Now I'm a bit bored with I'm a bit the debate "Prince is crap + Wendy & Lisa were the talents behind Prince". Apparently you have never seen them on stage too...zzzZZZ

. Songs like Mountains, Sometimes it Snows in April and Power Fantastic where they actually wrote the music, you can hear that "sound" of theirs.

When Prince wrote Mountains and sometimes it snows in April he hadn't seen the Revolution for 6 months. They were a few thousand miles away from him He was in Nice on the french riviera and gave the Revolution the songs he had written just before getting in the studio (he had recorded most of the album himself already).

Now again having seen the shows in London. Take Maceo Parker, Renato, John Blacwell they have a much BETTER influence on Prince's music than Wendy & Lisa ever did. Simply the band he has right now is the best he ever had. Moreover Prince is a much more accomplished musician nowadays than Wendy & Lisa. If you want to hear a HUGE influence in Prince's music listen to the Rainbow Children and listen to John Blackwell. The guy changed Prince's approach to music completely. And that's a quite amazing influence.

As promised;
Here my fave W&L songs, I just recorded them onto MD yesterday. Still have to remaster the entire thing, but still. Was so busy recording my MD (80 minutes) was full after just three albums.
So I deleted White (Spoiled Caucasion Brat Version) and Fruit At The Bottom and replaced them with the three Girlbros songs.
White has been a fave of mine since ever. Also; if I had them on CD I would have included To Trip Is To Fall (Waterfall b-side; awfully Princey) and the remix of Sideshow.
Actually it was hard chosing; none of their albums have a BAD song on it. All their albums to me are front to back; no skipping involved.

Strung Out
I Think It Was December
Don't Try To Tell Me
Sideshow
All I Wonder
Someday I
Turn Me Inside Out
Waterfall
Satisfaction
The Life
Are You My Baby 7" edit
Reaching One
Song About
Why Wait For Heaven
Skeleton Key
Lolli Lolli

I never knew watered down jazz/elevator music with JW influences was considered cutting edge these days. We had TRC years ago (minus the objectionable lyrics), it was called MADHOUSE.

"watered down jazz/elevator music"...You just defined perfectly Wendy & Lisa's music. Thank you. As for TRC it is a masterpiece. Never wendy or Lisa could reach such a level as instrumentist. But yeah I know your ears think that Wendy's voice is better than Aretha's probably.

When was it last time you saw Prince on stage??? Because you would speak this way otherwise.

Moreover I hate Rave unto the shit fantastic so don't name it in the same as list as TRC...it just doesn't fit.
