Oh,also, Ive also sen W&L live at The Roxy right after they released Eroica in 91(?) and had a great show. They opened with This Is The Life with just Wendy. That is one of THE GREAT SONGS..makes me wonder how much they put into Sometimes It Snows because the songs seem like cousins...I like This Is The Life better in actuality. Fruit at The Bottom is the shit btw.

"So, can you please explain why you think that nobody could possibly like Wendy and Lisa better than Prince?"

You can... But where is Wendy & Lisa.org?

Both you and I have seen this topic before (and several comparisons to other artists) and they usually become Prince bash sessions based on third grade arguements...

For Example:

"Beck is better than Prince... He's making better, more innovative music.. Prince's just lost his mind.. He "

I say, "Why? How?"

They either flame out, or joke away their bogus reasoning..

or

The arguement usually turns from how an artist is better (Aren't Wendy & Lisa a duo?) to how Prince's beliefs have turned them away from being a fan of his music..

Plus, some of the people behind these type of posts usually have some kind of alterior motives behind their flamings.

I don't know.. Maybe Prince's lawyers contacted them about leeching off of works that they do not care for?

Plus this is a Prince site. What kind of response did you expect to read?...

Tell Matt or Ben to yank my comments and start Wendy & Lisa.org, please?

You're doing what you are accusing me of...I do have a right to say what I believe. They need Prince to direct their music as much, or more than he needs them!

For one day..please? No Prince topics for a week. No mention of Prince, or their time in The Revolution.

Make sense now?

I thought so....

I do see what you are saying now... I am not looking for an argument with anyone and I am not saying anything bad about Prince, so your comments don't apply to this thread.

You are free to say what you wish, but you are making assumptions about the motivation for this thread with absolutely no evidence to support your theory... AND a number of people have agreed with my idea that Wendy and Lisa are putting out music that is much more interesting and creative than Prince.

Sorry but I have to laugh at the "Wendy got a big head" comment. Anyone who knows her will tell you she's completely the opposite. And IceNine you are making great points and I totally agree with your comments.

I do love both of them... but I think that Wendy and Lisa have been producing better music than Prince. This has nothing to do with sales and has everything to do with my PREFERRING their music to Prince's music. This was not the case in the eighties or early nineties... but it is the case now.

So... Sales have absolutely nothing to do with good music, nor does being bootlegged. I seriously think that being ex-Prince associates hurts Wendy and Lisa in the public's opinion.

So, can you please explain why you think that nobody could possibly like Wendy and Lisa better than Prince?

You are very confusing and your argument doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I had to "Stop The Insanity" now...

Support Wendy & Lisa. Don't hide behind them. Don't attack P for them. They've been away from him since '86'!

Where were these "opinionated fans" when they were trying to make a name for themselves...

Ooops..I forgot. That's Prince's fault too. Goshdarnit!

He was supposed to end his career in '86' so that their association with them wouldn't overshadow their own releases..

I don't think that anyone has attacked Prince "for" Wendy and Lisa on this thread, so your comments are very out of place and unnecessary.

Nobody is trying to defend Wendy and Lisa, nor is anyone trying to attack Prince here, so where is the problem?

I've actually never heard anything like that about Wendy. I know people who met her during the Parade era and they always said the same thing, she treated everyone like they were her closest friend. I know for a fact that none of the Revolution were too excited about Prince adding "Pips" to the Revolution. I know when I seen the Parade tour I was wishing they'd get out of Brownmark's way.

I think Girl Bros. is a stroke of genius. It is W&L's "Lovesexy"

I love Eroica

They contributed to Prince's sound as he did to theirs.

I would rather have W&L produce my album than Prince.

Prince is all together more talented as a multi-instrumentalist, but all argument as to who's better is moot, they are different.

Coming out of lurk mode for just a moment...

well, this thread certainly took an odd turn.

why does loving one artist HAVE to mean demeaning another? can't we love wendy and lisa and prince all at the same time? a great man once said, "It's not that it's better or greater...just different."

i don't blame prince for the girls' career. and I don't blame the girls for the strange twists that came to prince later on (altho' I must admit that I too miss the palette of colors they brought to his music).

everything in this life happens for a reason. think about it: if w&l had never left the revolution, we might never have heard the music they eventually released. and had the revolution never broken up, we might never have gotten the music the prince later wrote and released without them.

Ask IceNine that question.

can't we love wendy and lisa and prince all at the same time? a great man once said, "It's not that it's better or greater...just different."

exactly.

i don't blame prince for the girls' career. and I don't blame the girls for the strange twists that came to prince later on (altho' I must admit that I too miss the palette of colors they brought to his music).

Think about it. Wendy and Lisa aren't doing any better sales-wise with their records than Prince is. They're BOTH lagging in record sales. But that doesn't make EITHER of them less important, musically. In fact...look at the history...After Purple Rain, when Prince allowed Wendy and Lisa to have more input into his music, his album sales actually began to LAG...I believe this is because the music he made with them was some of the most misunderstood, yet beautiful music they ever made. Some of the most talented and important musicians are the ones whom are the most misunderstood and who DON'T sell a lot of records, IMO. Wendy, Lisa, and Prince fall into that category.

everything in this life happens for a reason. think about it: if w&l had never left the revolution, we might never have heard the music they eventually released. and had the revolution never broken up, we might never have gotten the music the prince later wrote and released without them.

my thoughts exactly. nod

Tom

Wendy & lisa stand out from the rest of Prince's sidekicks and proteges because they were artists in their own right, not just an accessory to Prince.

Their influence on his music is obvious, as well as the void in his music after they left.

They may not be interested in superstardom, not all artists are. Some just simply want to be heard from time to time.

Prince always seems to write songs that sound like a Prince song. His work has become painfully complacent and self referential in recent years. He's simply going through the motions.

Wendy & Lisa have maintined a great deal of integrity in their work because they write songs that reflect themselves at that moment, not "Wendy & Lisa". They're not worried about building upon their persona, they just write whatever touches them.

I definitely agree. And Prince knows it because he's been trying 2 get back 2gether with them 4 years now, but it never quite works out.

I was struck by how much better they are than Prince's recent output.

eek It's kind of strange 2 compare their OLD output with Prince's NEW output. Seems it would b a more level playing field 4 Prince if u compared both of their most recent outputs, P would win hands down.

But they all kick ass.

What a beautiful way that was to say I miss you. And let's not forget that song was for Susannah as well. IMO some of Prince's best work came out during his on again off again strange relationship with her.

i just dont understand why people cant discuss wendy and lisa on this damn site without getting all "hate"ration on us..(thanks mary j)...

and i dont think that the topic of the thread is hating on Prince...If someone started a "Why is Prince so much better than Michael Jackson" thread..nobody would say that its bashing on MJ..its just a person's opinion...
