I thought Mani is part Egyptian, which lies in the African continent if we want to get technical. How does that make her part White/Italian?

Many don't consider Egyptians to be African, eventhough Egpyt is located on the continent of Africa.

Mani's dad is white Italian and her mom is from Egypt.
[Edited 8/2/06 13:00pm]

yea alot of people dont consider it Africa but if u see her mom shes obviously African/Black...well,2 me anyway.

...and that in itself is actually a pretty common interacial mixture for southern Europe. From living in Italy, I learned that Egyptians and Tunesians have made up a core part of their immigrant population for a very long time.

Additionally, Egyptians will tell you very clearly that they are African. I've been put in place by many an Egyptian who will gently remind me that my skin color as a black woman does not make me African. An American descendant of Africans yes, but not African. And their cousins of darker hue to the south, east , and west of the continent usually agree with them. Oddly they still are quite embracing on one hand, and usually joke that even though "black Americans left us a long time ago, you're still mine..."

...and the idea that all people from Northern Africa (Algeria, Tunesia, Egypt, Morrocco etc) are fair skinned is a fallacy. The range of skin tones and hair textures run from the Paula Abduls of the world to the Denzel Washingtons.

...and on a completely non-serious, superficial note...the MEN, no matter what the complexion, are all SO FINE....it's ridculous!!!!Oh Lord!!!I would be there for work and develop crushes on boys like I was a high school nerd!!!! eek lol

He did go through a short period in his intial international success where he was pushing the idea that he was only "part" black. I remember it being very irritating. But it really was such a long tme ago that the details are so scroggly woggly and foggy. But I have many a vintage magazine in my parents attic where he took that "I'm mixed" ball an ran as far as he could with it.

..at least until he passed a mirror one day and saw it was time for a touch-up lol . But that's okay, when we're young that's the time to try on different identities and personas. I was just listening to the song "Family Name" the other night and thinking, "wow...it feels really good to see how far he's come in being able to disuss these issues".....I also like the tune "The Sacrifice of Victor" as a discussion point for this topic. For me it's abundantly clear that he's done a 180° of sorts where kind of the "say it loud I'm black and I'm proud" concept has come into play. Lord knows what a tragedy it would have been to see him go the way of some of our other celebs who insist on the nose jobs, the skin lightening and so on. I say, I'm just glad that even in the midst of being a globally recognized celebrity, he managed to come on back home cool

...Okay. now I feel bad because this has nothing to do with Madame Royal:boxed:
lol

I would have to see those interviews in print myself to believe that he denied being black. Otherwise, its complete hearsay and assumptions by other people who saw the actors that played his parents in Purple Rain movie.

Okay. Point Taken.

For fuck's sake, are you people totally unable to see the irony here? You all claim to be outraged that anyone be discriminated against on the grounds of race yet Prince, being black, must date a certain percentage of black women to be acceptable ( what is that percentage btw? 20%, 50%...93.87%? How many black women would Prince have had to have dated to make you happy? ). Spotted the irony yet? A white guy can date any mix of races he likes and no one complains yet Prince, solely because he's black, isn't allowed the same freedom - he's gotta fill the quota.

I do realize that the whole light-skinned Vs. dark-skinned thing is an issue in the black community but, come on. For whatever reason Prince, like we all do, developed a set of preferences during his formative years. Its true that those preferences would have been influenced by the pro-light-skinned society he grew up in but...and heres the news flash....its not his fault and its too fucking late to change what the guy is attracted to now!

Anyway, I notice he's never dated a bald diabetic Norwegian with a speech impediment....that dirty little bigotted fucker....bald diabetic Norwegians with speech impediments unite!! Prince hates you and your kind....stop buying his albums now!

God, I love humans...they're so, like....fucked.

THANKYOU BABY GIRL, I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MYSELF!

Your welcome. And to think you have had a baby too...you look amazing and all the hard work you put into your body is very evident. Also I think your breasts look really great too.

I've struggled with the idea of getting breast implants cuz of the work I do, I do feel alot of pressure when I am there to have them but in all honesty I don't want them. I guess I have a love/hate relationship with them. I really don't judge women for getting plastic surgey...alot of my friends have breast implants but for me...I don't know...I guess the decision runs alot deeper for me than most people. I kinda want to be appreciated for who I am and I guess I'm kinda afraid fake breasts might attract fake people...I just want to be me...or maybe I just over intellectualize things too much! LOL!

...but I just wanted to tell that I think if the decision was a good one for you I think that is great, and hope it will help you with your career and I think you are really beautiful...inside and out.
MY CHOICE TO DO THE BREAST JOB WAS BEACUSE I WANTED TO LOOK THE WAY I DID BEFORE I HAD MY BABYGIRL razz I STARTED HEAVY WEIGHT TRAINING AFTER SHE WAS BORN AND I NOTICED THAT IF I CONTUNIED ON THAT WAY THAT I WOULD HAVE NOTHING LEFT....I HAVE ALWAYS HAD LARGE BREAST AND I WANTED THEM BACK...AND I AM THANKFUL THAT GOD MADE A WAY FOR ME TO DO THAT cool AND THAT DOCTORS ARE BLESSED WITH THIS CRAFT cool REMEMBER I AM AN ARTIST AND SO ARE SOME DOCTORS NOT ALL eek JUST SOME...AND I AM THANKFUL THAT MY DOCTOR IS wink

Hi Robin, nice to 'cyber-meet' you.

Firstly, here's a picture of me so you can see who ur talking to...
http://www.pbphonehome.co...en42cu.png

Just been reading through all you have said so far. Congratulations on all the work you are doing that you feel so good about. Nice to sense your 'power' through the screen.

I agree with you 100 per cent about Women needing to 'unite' and Stand Up. I believe we have something of great value inside us, perhaps something that has been quite confronting for 'men in general' to handle..

I'm proud to be Female, especially in this day and age where there are still so many little boys out there thinking they can exploit us, or teach us something, or give us the kind of advice that we should really be gettin from our fellow sisters and Mothers wink

Can't say I'd ever be a man's 'protoge', not that I'm sexist on the whole, but I think world history has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Men do tend to miss the point a bit. I like to learn from people who get the point. My teacher is a wonderful motherly figure, in her 80's now, a very wise nurturing woman.

Also, your comments about Prince's past treatment of women interested me. How big a part did his Fame play in the way he treated them and you? Do you think he would have been so 'cavalier' and dishonest if he'd been just an average guy on the street? I realise thats speculative, but I got a hunch that alot of things go to a persons head when they hit the 'big time' and pretty much think they can do whatever they like...

I agree 100 percent with you about Prince needing an angel and a messenger. One can only hope he's listening and doesnt continue to presume that he knows whats best. Recent events would indicate there are still a few things amiss in the over-all Prince picture.

Your comments about the entertainment industry, I can relate to them as well. I think we might be looking at a few 'prophecies' coming true soon..this one in particular.. " All things hidden shall be revealed ".. no matter how much money people have, no matter how many gag orders they have, no matter how much they think they are entitled to engage in Spiritual Wickedness in High Places... everything will soon be revealed. biggrin

Robin its wonderful ur a forgiving person, just wanted to say sorry for the way Prince treated you. Boys will be boys. And perhaps a good experience for you in the long term, as you said, you learned alot, and it helped define for you what you will and will not tolerate from a man, be he half woman or not wink

Thanks for your time Robin.

Hi again Robin,
~ thanks for your response.

I can relate to your experiences in having a child to someone who is 'less than the perfect mate'. I have a son to one such relationship and I Bless the day he was born. He is the Sunshine of My Life. Thankfully, his father and I get along a little better these days.

Isnt it wonderful that no one has the exclusive rights to 'being hurt'. We all have been. I am grateful that in my adult life, I have done my best to heal myself. Taking responsibility for our own personal growth feels really good.

Thanks again for your time,
heart

Hey powerbaby...I just remembered something. At the start of Liza's thread about the uptown dames there was a poster that came here trying to track you down. He said he was one of your old boyfriends in Chicago when you were around fifteen or sixteen. I have no idea if he was legit or anything but I just thought I'd let you know. Maybe someone can dig up his old post?

God, I love humans...they're so, like....fucked.

clapping I would have said this too, but I don't like to cuss that much!

I'm surprised that people are acting like they don't know what you mean.
It has never been unknown in the Black community that Prince ain't into Black women.

I was actually surprise he dated you. I thought even you were too Black for him.
That makes me sad because I have loved Prince and his music for almost my entire life. And until recently he ain't even wanna admit that he was Black. Oh well. He's old now anyway. lol aight, I'm just playing. But you know what I mean.

No, it was other people that didn't want to admit he was Black for the comfort of their own wants and needs of him. Plus he knew most Black women wouldn't let him get away with crap that most non-black women will put up with, He wasn't stupid. He knew exactly who it was easier to play with at the time.. I have never heard of him denying being Black. In many of his songs he sure proved he was if you really listened to his songs.. You have to remember, he was younger back then and living the "rock style" life. What other females do you think was more into him then? So it's no surprise that you were used to seeing him with them. Especially back in the 80s a lot of artists were forced to perform in videos and on stage with non-black females, since then, as you have noticed that has changed tremendously. But I have never heard anyone quote him saying he wasn't Black, especially when both his parents were Black. And please, don't start with all that nonsense about "ooh, his mother was half this or daddy was half that,"all nothing but rumors since Purple Rain gave them that impression because of the role the actress who played his mother in Purple Rain. It has been noted that it was not Prince's idea for a white actress to play his mother and give people that false assumption. I believe it was the director or producer's idea. It was a smart move to attract a white audience to see the film.[/quote

A black woman would really go upside his head and I am sure he knows it.

At the same time I am sure P is proud to be black. Let's cut him some slack look where he grew up at.

I thought Mani is part Egyptian, which lies in the African continent if we want to get technical. How does that make her part White/Italian?

On a final note (Gb), the diversity of the people Prince has chosen 2 spend time with should not be cause 4 criticism. This criticism goes way back, and Prince shouldn't be compared 2 those who have distinct issues about dating someone who is of a similar "race". He does not have that complex, so stop trying 2 pin that on him. The beauty of each and every one of the women he was with, was seen by him, regardless of color.

Regardless, Robin was basically saying that Prince is colorstruck when it comes to the women he dates. No surprise there when you look at his list of women.
He may have never said publically that he wasn't black (Robin probably has a better idea of what he says in private than you or I do) but he's never tried to make it undeniably clear, either. Although most black people have always known and never thought he was mixed or something else, ultimately people want to hear HIM say it and he never satisfied that because he seemed to have thought it would hurt his pockets. He's probably right. Still, this is one of the reasons Prince could never be seen as a shining example of a black man. That "Tiger Woods sh*t" just don't cut it with most black folks.

Maybe you need to go back and read what Robyn said. She said he is a typical brother and the running around with blondes because he has change in his pocket is something a lot of brothers do.

Dear Robin,

Which was your favorite tour of Prince's?

What do you feel is Prince's most spiritual song?

Have you noticed how many other associated artists have turned their lives to God?

I couldn't have said it better. This dynamic is little understood outside of our community. It's not a simple matter of loving someone of another race, which most of us don't have a problem with. It's a whole mind trip experienced to some degree by decendants of slaves throughout this hemisphere and anybody who thinks P is immune to it is probably uncomfortable discussing it or maybe in denial about it because it's Prince.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
