Hi Michael,

As Prince and Sonny T are long time friends, I was wondering why Sonny did not join Prince's band before the D&P album.

Can you please tell us how they met and how Sonny ended up joining the band.

Thanks Michael

Mr. Bland,

My mom always told me about our neighbor named Michael who drummed for Prince and pointed out his house to me. I'm no stalker and I won't visit you or anything (I respect your privacy), but have you ever resided near a street called Lee Drive in Eden Prairie? smile

(I'm only 16 so there's no kidnapping planned either lol I just really wanna know if my favorite Prince drummer lived across the street from me. )

Hi mike! Top man!

What percent of tracks would you say Prince did on his on during your time with NPG?

Did Prince write ALL the lyrics?

Did anyone have their work uncredited?

Do you know Jimi Hendrix has an history of domestic violence including breaking his girlfriends nose by kicking her in the face?

- that's all pretty well documented in the credits on the albums. just take a look.

- that is also well documented territory.

- yeah, i'm sure it happened sometimes. it always does, no matter who's record you're talking about. intellectual property is a slippery slope.. and there can be alot of he said/she said involved in it.

- i dunno anything about all that. i would have to ask jimi about that, before i bought it. people love to spread rumours. have you seen some sort of legal documentation to suport this claim? if you can show me something, i might change my tune.

i never witnessed that, really. i presume it's done in a non-confrontational manner. almost everybody i came in with, quit of their own their volition..
and when i was let go, so were sonny, morris, and tommy..

i dunno if i'd say we were dissappointed. as upset as i was about it at the time, prince also did me a favor by cutting me loose. my time was my own again. i was getting too old to be told what to do, where to go, and what to play, all day, everyday. and i needed to know if there was a career to pursue beyond his influence.

it depends on what you look for, in a drummer. we play different. his style is more r and b. i've always been more into rock. his pocket is more on top.. i ride the backside of the rhythm. i'll go on record saying he's one of the only drummers i like in this town.

Hi mike.

Sorry for my kid brother asking a childish rude question(tony m in bed)

He doesn't like Prince.

Anyway;

I only mentioned Jimi because i heard you was a fan. I`was wondering if you as a talented musician and family man view other musicians different if they've done horrific things?

I'm not asking for a judgement in the biblical sense. But as a man with morals myself i find it hard to listen to songs by men who have battered their partners.

Jimi's violence is well documented. Dozens of people around him have witnessed it including bandmates noel and mitch. Police were called on several occasions but Hendrix Experience were tipped off and left the area.

Other WELL RESPECTED (BY IGNORANT PUBLIC) musicians/ artists who have been violent or raped women;

jackie wilson; attemted rape
sly stone
keith moon
jay z; caught on video
snoop dogg
Notorious B.I.G; used to beat a 4ft 11" lil kim; well documented by at least half a dozen people
big pun; caught on video
Axl rose violence and rape
tommy lee
James brown
Steven adler
Slash
Charles mingus
Icke turner
kool g rap
Busta ryhmes; has a resraining order against him for chronic physical abuse towards girlfriend
(many more rappers as well)

^^^FACT
Allegedly prince; HOPEFULLY NOT TRUE BUT I HEARD THIS BY SOMEONE ON THIS SITE WHO HAS SPOKEN TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE KNOWN PRINCE!

i guess i'd have to say that a person's faults and their abilities are mutually exclusive, to me. you don't have to be a musician to beat up your girlfriend.
it may make you a bad person, but i don't see what that has to do with whether or not you're a musical genius.
i might dig your music, but not necessarliy wanna hang out with you, if that's the case, i suppose.

Cool.

My team is the Warriors. An organization in such bad shape as a whole, that I am not sure if I even consider them a "Pro" team. I don't think they could even make the final four in the NCAA College tournament lol .

I was hoping you were a Twins fan so I could give you some friendly ribbing from a huge Oakland A's fan biggrin .

Michael,

Do you ever get bored with Drumming?

I get the impression that the music overall as a whole is more important and interesting to you than just Drumming itself...is that a correct assessment?

There's a huge debate on Housequake about the opening scream to Gett Off. On Rosie's Myspace page she says she did it. But all these people are SWEARING up and down it's Prince. I don't see why it's being debated if Rosie said she did it, but do you know forsure who did the scream? Thanks in advance!!!

yes, that's a correct assessment, as many a drummer can testify to, upon meeting me and trying to engage me in "shop talk". i hate talking about the drums. just seems pointless. i'm not a "gear head", by any means.
