I know that the song is credited to P and the Revolution but I always thought from the lyrics to the melody, that this was basically a Lisa Coleman track. What do ya'll think? Love the lyric "Your head is underwater. I doubt that u can hear me." That lyric is killin'!

One of my favorites.

17 Days is one of the songs that made me a Prince fan. The first time I heard it was on a jukebox somewhere (I'd barely begun getting into Prince then, and I remember when I saw it listed as a selection on the jukebox, I was thrilled because I'd never heard it before) I used to hang out when I was younger.

That song hooked me bigtime. I would play it over and over and over again on that damn jukebox til finally I bought the 12" for myself.

I won't even go into the story behind "When Doves Cry" and how it coincided with my life when it was released, but when I finally flipped the record over and played 17 Days, I still to this day adore the intro to this song. P's guitar lick repeating it's phrase over and over. That's my fave part about the song.

It's a Wendy and Lisa song.

I think it's mostly a Prince track and Wendy and Lisa help to paint it blue.

maybe it´s a Wendy & Lisa track, but with a tight Prince-beat! serious; this beat is purple funk! I wonder if there´s a extended version of 17 days.

actually I think the combination of the tough beat and the fuzz-guitar with the soft keyboard layers and the sad lyrics makes this song so strong! it gives you a new taste of music in general.

This song had me hooked when I was twelve and the When Doves Cry 45 single had just come out....we couldn´t stop listening to it all day.

Even though I wasn´t really a Prince "fan" at that age.

great great track, so many b sides are worthy of album space.

Shes always in my hair and Girl are my favourites.

Have you heard the living colour version of 17 days, it was the b side to love rears up its ugly head.I read somewhere prince liked it .

I never really thought of 17 days as a Wendy and Lisa track even though they along with Matt Fink received some credit for but that can be possible.
Then again they also have a song writing credit on Computer Blue which one of them said they had little input on.
Also I thought the "two cigerattes" was referring to Brenda or something like that according to DMSR? So I concluded that the song is more about Brenda than Lisa, even though Lisa sang background.
Anyway I like that song a lot especially hearing the extended version.

17 Days was originally written 4 Brenda (of Vanity 6/Apollonia 6) 2 lead in the summer of 1983. Intended 4 Vanity 6 second album/project but that all ended after Vanity left Vanity 6 and the Prince camp right b4 they began work on the Purple Rain film. He later did some additional work near the end of 1983 and decided 2 keep the song. It's a great song and was a perfect B-SIDE 4 When Doves Cry. It would also b perfect 4 the Purple Rain album.

Classic track and always will be!!!! Everytime I listen to it with headphones I hear something different and I've played the song to death since it came out!!

Isn't it a synth bass driving that bass line, not a real bass?

The version that you're referring to is a fan-type "remix" or extended version. It's not Prince's official extended of the song. I'm assuming the one you're talking about has some of the guitar effects from the end of Private Joy in it, right? If so, this is definitely a fan-made (or looped) mix.

There IS an official version out there that lasts like 7 minutes (I'm not sure of the exact length), but it's not circulating, unfortunately. This is probably my all-time favorite Prince jam, though, and it'd be nice if he resurrected this song for his upcoming tour (though hearing it now live just can't compare to the mind-blowing experience of hearing it for the first time back when I bought the Let's Go Crazy 12"!!!).
