The info from the book DMSR, Lisa,Wendy, Fink and P are credited to writing this jam. It was originally cut in 83 for the second Vanity 6 album. It was then re-cut in early 84 for the Apples 6 album, pulled again for P's b-side. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

It could've been 1 of those things where Prince liked something they were doing, and then recorded his version of it, probably totally different than what the original idea was, and thus, the TOTAL Princely feel and sound. I just downloaded a rehearsal version where Prince sings it and plays piano, without a band. It´s 6:30 long. Does somebody know which rehearsal is it? Very nice version BTW |

It's a rehearsal he did on the piano back in 1983. I don't have the exact date off the top of my head, but someone with DMSR in front of them should know a bit more. It can be found on "Eavesdropped On Intimate Moments", among other boots as well. He did several others like "Case Of You", "Purple Rain", and "Purple Music" too. | |

Same for me--17 Days is the song that changed me from a casual Prince fan to a hardcore fan. I used to go to Prince night at Berlin (Chicago) and they would play this song I loved, with the lines, 'Let the rain come down, let the rain come down.' I actually had the B-sides CD but had NEVER listened to it until my then boyfriend told me the song I loved was on that disc! After that I played 17 Days morning, noon, and night... It's still my favorite Prince song.  The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp. | |

What I forgot 2 mention above, is that 17 Days is my fav 12"/B-Side of all. I have them all on vinyl, and I'm so glad I was a part of that generation that used 2 go 2 the record store, and freak out when I saw a new Prince 12". Remember the incredible shock U'd get when U heard an unreleased track, and it was as amazing as 17 Days? Granted, there were a few that did that 2 me. "He's a musician's musician..." |

If someone asked me what the Revolution sounded like, I would play them "17 Days" and leave it at that. I don't care much who wrote and played... it's just a piece of hypnotic magic.
