I would start from his first and just go down the line. If u had to just get 2, I would say get his first and then "Bare My Naked Soul", which to me, is his best. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

The first two albums are essential:
Jesse Johnson's Revue (1985) Shockadelica (1986) 'Shocadelica' is his masterpiece.Not a bad song on there! His third album 'Every Shade Of Love' (1988) is okay,but not nearly as strong as the previous two albums.I've never heard the fourth album 'Bare My Naked Soul' (1996),I think it's more of a rock album,and less funk? Jesse also has a Greatest Hits CD that you may wanna check out,to familiarize yourself with his music. . [Edited 3/23/06 3:21am] | |

Which Jesse? Funk or Rock?
Like many of us, we were into Jesse for his 3 funk albums...then he dropped Bare My Naked Soul which made me forget the other three! Ok, a bit of an exaggeration but his last disc was just incredible.. | |

If you like Morris' solo albums, you'll adore Jesses. All his stuff was infinitely better than Morris Day. If you're pressed for cash, just get Johnson's greatest hits album. JJ had a lot of serious jams. I'm waiting for someone to start covering his work...he has quite an impressive catalog.. | |

One of the coolest things about the greatest hits cd is that it contains the b-side "Fool's Paradise" and the 12" version of "Baby Let's Kiss" with the cool-ass guitar solo (like the video).

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....Cut Em Jesse!!!!! Jesse is the ONLY guitarist to scare the S**T outta prince as far as playing!!!! All of his solo work is worth having. So, YES Mike, go out & get 'em ONE BY ONE!!!! AND, Jesse one-upped Prince when he worked with Sly on "Crazay"!!!!! | |

I liked his first 2, but Every Shade of Love sounded like he played every instrument and sang every note. There was no BAND feel to it. He didn't learn much from Prince in that regard. | |
