p.s.- I love the lyrics & arrangement for 'Woman's Touch'. I'm not in love with Robin's rapping (too many words for her natural timing/annuciation/delivery), but kudos to her for trying to make it work (Also, I do realize it's a demo- plain & simple it was darn cool to hear!). I wish somebody would do something with WT. Who wrote the lyrics & who wrote the music?

Krystal - haven't heard from you for a while. sad But I haven't forgotten about your request. Ready for another Prince fact mc nugget?

According to Robin, "The Kid" to Prince represented the more spiritual side of himself. He created another character that represented the other more worldly nasty side of himself. Who do you think this character is? hmmm

artpal! I LOVE the music to the Teacher too! I love funk style of music it is my favorite gene of music! I really liked the keyboards too! I mean I REALLY liked it! Did you come up with that sound on the keyboards? Nothing against Carmen Electra or anything but I REALLY wished Prince would have focused on you girls instead. I mean you guys were very talented! And I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I think Robin while not the most talented rapper would have made a fab frontwoman for the Dames with her sex appeal and strength! biggrin You should REALLY consider reforming the Dames! You are a very talented group of women! biggrin

P.S. I'm curious when you said the Prince was ragging on you girls for your music, looks, ect. What kind of things did he say?

Sure Krystal, there are more stories to come.

But first a musical break. music Check out the next tune "The Teacher." Yes, this is the one Prince liked a lot. It's just the instrumental version (Robin was saving her voice for the gig) but she did mention our names at the end (except Alisa the singer). This is the song that backed a rap Prince wrote. I'll tell you a detailed story later.

I only wish our computer speakers could handle the bass tones better cuz I can't seem to hear Joanie's bass. That's too bad cuz she started this song. I would recommend you download this song and play it in your stereo or anything that can handle bass tones.

I'm finding everyone's feedback to be extremely valuable, so please do me a favor and let me know what you think. Especially you non-musicians; sometimes we musicians live in our own world and don't know what's up anymore (including Prince). Thanks!

Me, Joanie, and Kimberly at rehearsal. This is the only photo I have in the Paisley sound stage. We were later moved to rehearse in an outside facility.

Hey ScarletteP, I was wondering where you were too! smile

The answer is Morris Day. Prince feels he has two sides - the spiritual one and the worldly/bad boy one. I do see that conflict myself. He does acknowledge the bad boy in himself and his spiritual side is trying to fight that.

I heard a rumor that due to his recent Jehovah Witness beliefs, he has made up with a lot of the people he pissed off in the past.

Morris is actually a very shy guy, according to Robin. I guess he's a good actor.

As far as the Dames are concerned, we live in MN, DC, Philly, Tennessee... and I have searched unsuccessfully for other lost Dames and I don't know where else they are. To get them together, I'd have to pay to search for them and fly em in to play together. I have a little more money these days than I did 14 years ago and there is the internet. Still thinkin about this. confuse

And oh - Scarlette - I posted "New Little Girl" for you at http://www.myspace.com/lizafigueroa

You will see that it is WAY different from the Dames music. People seem to either really love it or really hate it. This garageband thing is really interesting.

Krystal!!! hug Where ya been? Thanks for the compliments!

Prince was ragging on us cuz so and so couldn't solo well or someone's timing wasn't perfect or whatever. But most musicians have issues here and there - heck my favorite band is the Beatles and they never had any real fancy solos. I realized as time went on that Prince just liked to scare the hell out of us. It probably gave him a nice power trip. He threatened to replace Kim the drummer - but now I realize he was just messin' with her. He also ragged on the dancers for not choreographing stuff soon enough. I think he was just messin' with us. He liked to see how high we would jump for him. Sometimes we jumped pretty high too. In my maturity these days, I realize it was all just a stupid game.

Hey ScarletteP,

Sorry I almost missed reading this one. Thanks for your feedback. It's very valuable to me. As for "Woman's Touch," I wrote the music and a kid named Kou wrote the lyrics under my direction. So you like the lyrics, huh? Maybe Robin's delivery makes it sound more amateurish.

If I get the Dames back together, we'd do that song too. But I'd get some real live go go musicians like my old friends Trouble Funk to play the percussive parts. Maybe I'll do this stuff with some other nearby musicians in the studio just as a test to the music itself. Hmmm. confuse Still thinkin this thru.

As for Krystal's question about the keyboard parts in "The Teacher," I had those Boom-clap sounds on the Emax already because another song on the set required it. Since we only had minutes to write the song, I just used whatever was right there on the spot.

Well that just shows how perceptive you are, doesn't it? Wow that's cool.

Here's another tidbit: campfire

When Robin was spending the night at Prince's house one time, Prince told her to be quiet because another of his girlfriends was staying in another room. Who do you think that might have been? hmmm

You might be right. It's hard to know where to draw the line. But we all know he dated Kim and that he had a lot of women. There will be all kinds of opinions on where the line is, so whatever. smile

But believe me - I'm holding back a lot. I even had this thread pulled because of a serious slip up on my part.
