RESPECT???

Prince is all about whatever is good for Prince. NPGMC advertizes cds and doesn't come thru with those cds, NPG makes a magazine and terminatez the magazine and doesn't refund money, NPG sells "aftershow" tickets and they become "afterparty" tickets..on and on.

NPG makes a charity called L4OA and when do you hear about it?..WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FANS!!!!! But the fans in the end give money to the charity that Prince uses to make his ass look good.

So you say RESPECT?? I don't think Prince is the type of artist that is trying to gain the fans respect but he loves the fans $$$$$.

Okay, let me break it on down. I know all that Prince and/or his company has done. But when Tora says respect, in this case, she means "Don't send your fucking wikipedia school of law lawyers after us!"
I mean, damn, this ain't the straw that broke the camels back. This is a sledgehammer beating the camel's skull in.

When i say "I" and "We" I mean ALL fans/supporters. I ain't trying to have no ego. I ain't saying "Hey, you know that Prince guy, that's all me right there"
I'm sayin' where the hell would he be without anyone supporting his work? Nowhere. Where would anyone like him be? Can you fathom this equation?

I know you didn't mean you personally and that you meant "we" as fans. I have always felt so "together" with Prince fans, and now it seems the essence of the music doesn't matter any more. Now it's all about what we should have, are entitled to, can't have, etc. I know there are no innocent parties to this disagreement. I know both sides must feel betrayed or used or mishandled, and I don't discount anyone's feelings. I just feel this is a rift that will never be mended.

In the end, who is going to win, and what is the real prize? Fans aren't going to get Prince's love and respect, and Prince isn't going to control the world. We all lose.

This isn't out of selfishness like Prince owes us something. It is about us minding our damn business within the community that we built and then being threatened because we dared to post some lyrics and then analyze them or write about what we think they mean or a bunch of girls posting pictures and going crazy over how hot they think Prince is. What is the harm in that really and why does that warrant threats and or lawsuits? This site is very conciencious about posters giving credit for photos where it is due and not allowing videos and all that. Sounds like we have really complied with what the "supposed" spirit of this whole thing is.

Prince needs to quit with this crap and just get on with his life, make music and make it well. We would give him our paychecks if he'd just keep touring and releasing albums. He's acting like he is missing out on fortunes because of a goddamn picture thread on the org. No he's not. He's just being a control freak and he's being greedy. We have a right to object to this. He is in our home, not his.

And rest assured, you know I am not talking about you. lol

I am speaking mostly to the folks on PFU who didn't leave a name but left a lot o' vitrol.

In all honesty, most of the folks posting the "o'vitrol", aren't/weren't fans to begin with. Those folks just happened to hear about the story. Their comments are just reflections of what the general public really thinks about Prince. Always have and always will.

That's one of the reasons fan sites were created in the first place. So we the fans would have places to gather, converse and appreciate Prince and his work without being bombarded with all the over the top crap like that and now it appears we aren't even going to have these safe havens much longer.

If you want to hear some "o'vitrol" try mentioning "LoveSexy" in a room full of people who have season tickets for the WWE.

I randomly read maybe 15 things spread out over different pages, and glanced over 50 more. But there's like a 1000 messages on there. I just saw a wide mix of responses, from people in different agegroups and nationalities, with some people being quite elaborate while others were jotting down a brainfart... like I would expect on the internet and especially in the Prince community.

I believe in moderation when there is a mechanism for back-and-forth discussion, like on a forum.
I also believe there is room for pages that are snapshots of the Prince community's psyche at a given moment in time. It's real and raw, and can be painfull. But I don't like pretending it doesn't exist.

Maybe I'm sheltered, but, in all my years in the "Prince community" never have I seen such racial and homophobic slurs expressed. It would seem to me that a website wanting people to unite isn't going to get very far when comments are not only detrimental and derrogatory, but totally against some of the very people you want to unite. I don't pretend it doesn't exist, but it does seem in complete conflict with "unity," and I would feel remiss in my own humanity for letting comments like that stay on my website. Besides, it can only hurt any lawsuit that might occur. I don't know many jurors that are going to read that crap and support PFU's side, unless yall plan on having the trial in a podunk southern American town.

You need to quit with this religious crap. BOTTOM LINE: If none of us paid Prince for the products he created, Prince wouldn't have jack shit. Stop with this god crap already lol

The "god crap" was started when fans started saying they "made" somebody, especially if the person is successful.

It's true that God provided Prince with the talent and ability to go out into the world and achieve what he has. God gave Prince the tools to build that career, but God didn't do it for Prince, nor did God 'give' Prince that career and all that comes with it - at least, not in the simplistic way I often see alluded to by some.

Many years ago Prince could just as well have chosen to use his talent in a private way, and have lived out his life as a plumber or accountant or chef who only played music as a hobby. But instead of remaining a private individual, Prince chose to use his God-given talents, abilities and opportunities to make music his life's work, and to perform for the public and have performing be the way in which he made his bread and butter.

You see, in my opinion, in the same way God provided Prince his talent and the free will to use them in whatever way Prince chose, God gave to the rest of the world the opportunity to experience Prince's talent and the free will of then choosing to either become a fan, or to not. Those people who did become fans have supported Prince in many ways, including financially. Without those fans choosing to give their hard-earned cash to Prince in exchange for experiencing his talent, Prince would not have been able to live the life he has. It is that simple.

So yes, God made Prince an incredibly talented man, but God wasn't who made Prince into a 'star' -- it was the fans who did that part, the fans who willingly give their money which then allowed said talented individual to transcend merely being a massively talented unknown into becoming "a star" (or a celebrity, or a success, or whichever term you'd like to use to define that state of being).

Perhaps this latest situation is just yet another opportunity provided by God - both to Prince and to the fans who made Prince the viable, successful star he is... a challenge, if you will - to learn, to work with one another and to make the best choices as to how to proceed in everyone's best interests yet still remain respectful, fair and retain personal integrity.

Nicely put. I mean, why make princefams take down their lyric forum. Was that really keeping Prince up at night? That is a prime example of wanting total control.

Hi txladykat

Do you think it's an accurate statement to say that Prince is "launch[ing] attacks on his own fans"? I know that the site owners who started that site are fans, but is there a necessary distinction to be drawn here, or do you think he is attacking all fans? Do you think people are making that distinction?

Yes I do because it does not say "every fan". People will always read the same sentence differently. I cannot control whether people make a distinction or not. Various press interviews clearly state that the view of PFU is not representative of all the fans.

22the9s said:

And, do you think that the tattoo/license plate issue (which keeps getting repeated) is a fair representation of WebSherrif's claim?

Yes, when viewing the various communications, this is what was conveyed. Prince.org disputed that the fan photos of license plates and tatoos were not subject to a copyright infringement complaint by WS' clients, and WS countered that assertion. I know that you can't gleem that from not having seen the communications but if WS would withdraw their assertion of confidential and copyrights to the letters, we would be more than happy to share them.

2the9s said:

Is it the main, even sole, function of that site to disseminate these very issues through press releases and such?

The future of PFU is solely dependent upon Prince's reponse.

2the9s said:

There have ben a lot of hateful comments posted here (on various threads) about P. and wishig him dead and talking about his child and so forth. That anger has been stirred by that site, so I think that these are fair questions.

I don't see it that the anger is fueled by the "site". The anger is fueled by actions Prince (or his companies as alleged by WS) has chosen to take. We have accurately represented the demands placed upon us. if the fans are upset by those actions, that is not our fault.

No, they can't be fans. Prince fans tend to be worldy and open minded. Hell, they ARE supporting a black man. They are probably just normal idiots who would be tossing those words around anyway. I think pfu needs to screen those comments.

Yes, this is not Prince's home, but it does have his name. And having that name has brought the attention. As long as credit is given and pictures are not altered, I personally see no harm in having pictures. Does this break a copyright law? I don't know. I know 100 years from now it's not gonna matter, because copyright laws are only good for 99 years.

I was lead to believe that the original interest in the popular Prince sites began with discussions on bootlegs, which we all know is wrong, and things just escalated from there. I have no good answer, as I am sure most of us don't.

Prince isn't worried about his fan base.

Some fans will just be waiting around for him to release a magazine and have him take the money and run, or spend $100 and have Prince not come thru with the advertized cds, or purchase "aftershow" tickets and get an "afterparty"

Simple, Some fans are bitches that like to get kicked around like a dumb dog that will crawl back for more. Here Prince take my money and screw me over!! I like it because I like to be kicked like a POS. They will go and defend the out of control leader by emulating him talking mumbo jumbo L4OA sillyness. Defend him at all costs.

IMO, the real fans are the ones that at least have balls to express the displeasure for the communist bullshit Prince is trying to push on us. I hope Prince wakez up to the fact that his organization has fucked up in the past and he is fucking up big time right now with this communist websherriff idiot.

I hope Prince wakez up to the fact that his organization has fucked up in the past and he is fucking up big time right now with this communist websherriff idiot.
And everything you said could have been done without resorting to namecalling and insulting the fans that don't believe as you do.

Well according to the communication from websherriff they are requesting that photos, ALBUM COVERS & LYRICS be taken down. Discussions about official albums and songs is being included here.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be vicious to you but man am I pissed lol

I do not take your posts as vicious, you are being very respectful. You have a right to your anger. Believe me, my freaking Myspace page is shot to hell because of all this legal crap. I'm just a latent "love child" who always asks "can't we all just get along?" I know you understand when I say that some of the magic of the music has been lost in all this, and it makes me sad. I know that sadness manifests itself in all different ways for different people.

I thank you all for conversing with me tonight. I knew I would not have a popular opinion, but I felt I needed to express it, and you have graciously let me.

I do wish love for us all and an end to this controversy.
You ask me to forgive you, when you know I'm just an addict.

Whats Starting To Piss Me Off Is We Act Like Because He Is A Artist With Plenty Money, That We Dont Have To Respect His Rights To The Things He Owns...

Then We Want To Cry Foul, When Somebody Like Prince Says "Enough Is Enough" Point Blank The People Of That Site Violated His Copyrighted Material, And He Want Them To Stop...

Also In The Case With The Baby On YTube His Music Was Playing Thru Out The Whole Video.. He Is Just That Type Of Business, Very Shrewd And He Wants To Be Respected Thats All...

If You Gonna Blame Anyone Blame Warner Bros, For Robbing The Man Blind In His Early Years... This Is Why Prince Is The Way He Is Now... He Is Not Gonna Let Anyboddy Get Away With Using His Image Or Music With Out Getting Paid For It, Unless He Gives Written Permisson...

And I Dont Blame Him...

Hey, I have the fucking freedom to call out these "suckers" as I see them. I figure you are smart enough to figure out when your getting screwed?
All you focus on is the name calling, explain your demiGODs Actions:

- release a magazine and have him take the money and run..

- $100 NPGMC and have Prince not come thru with the advertized cds..

- the UK fans that purchased "aftershow" tickets and get an "afterparty"..

I don't see it that the anger is fueled by the "site". The anger is fueled by actions Prince (or his companies as alleged by WS) has chosen to take. We have accurately represented the demands placed upon us. if the fans are upset by those actions, that is not our fault.
Really? Wow. A vessel has been provided for people to spew hate at Prince, at blacks, at gays and you guys don't feel responsible for that?

Are there any plans to moderate what is said on that site?

I agree! The words Ni**er and F*g, should all be deleted! Every thing else can stay!

Well truth be told, last night I went out to the neighborhood bar and they have an internet jukebox there. I was halfway finished with my first beer when I hear

*violins cueing the orchestra*
Look at the bargains over here ladies

*insert wedding music here*

And I fell on the damn floor that someone there had played If I Was Your Girlfriend and you know what? I smiled like a damn lunatic and made it known I know this song! lol I have no problem looking back on the past that helped shape my life. Prince's music was a part of that and I will never turn away from my experiences because he is now, acting like a creep. He's too old for this and we are too. We are not kids anymore. We have worked hard for our money and we have chosen to have Prince as our inspiration and we show it with our pocketbooks time and time again.

The whole issue with bootlegs is obviously lost on Prince and his camp because if they remastered all that stuff and released it tomorrow nearly everyone that has all the vault songs would plunk down top dollar for them even if they paid for the crappy bootleg releases. I know I would. Prince wouldn't be making money off the bootlegs anyway and his beef should be with the distributors of that stuff and not us. He knows we can't resist buying prince keychains, how the hell are we going to resist his music!. lol

Prince has had incredible opportunities to blaze the trail as far as the internet is concerned. Most of us who are bitching paid to be a part of his official site and would continue to pay to be a part of it if he was doing what he intended to do all along and that is to free the music. Instead the music is locked up in legal limbo and he is taking his frustrations out on us. And it is not right.

Price has a history of attacking fansites. It's usually called biting the hand that feeds him, but a hand once bitten, won't reach out to feed him again. So the pathetic midget will starve.

He really ought to stick to writing decent songs again. He hasn't made a decent album in five years.
