PRINCE’S PAISLEY PARK ANNOUNCES
PRINCE: Live on the Big Screen

Backed by his ALL-STAR BAND Live on the Big Stage with Very Special Guests
Prince’s Paisley Park Museum in Chanhassen, Minnesota has announced a special concert event titled PRINCE: Live on the Big Screen to be held April 21 at 8PM at Target Center. The concert will feature newly remastered and never-before-released audio and video of Prince accompanied live on the Target Center stage by a super-group of musicians who performed alongside Prince throughout his legendary career. With the event, Paisley Park looks to welcome even more of the passionate Prince fan community into a live music event celebrating his iconic artistry and the hit songs that captivated generations of fans.

The concert will be an exciting highlight of CELEBRATION 2018, a four-day event honoring the life and legacy of Prince Rogers Nelson, taking place at Paisley Park between April 19-22. Individual tickets to PRINCE: Live on the Big Screen will be on sale starting Saturday, January 20 at 10AM at the Target Center box office, online at TargetCenter.com or by calling 888-9-AXS-TIX.

Well I personally think it's kind of shady that the day after the deadline to purchase Celebration Tickets, they announce this. What's the point of The Celebration? It just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I thought tickets for Celebration aren’t available yet. I thought the only tickets available so far were for those who attended last year. confused

Live band with not-live Prince. Why don't they just put up a hologram?

I thought so too.

Wonder who will be in the "live band"? Anyone seen any names yet? You just know that New Power Soul mess will be around somewhere.

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

Well dang. I might actually do this. Wish it was at Paisley, but this has higher profile and accessibility so it makes tons of sense. Plus, as Bart pointed out, this is proven ground, to an extent.

Really, it's up to us to support something like this to encourage further investment from the estate.

PS: HOLY SHIT THIS LOOKS COOL! And for the record, I'd totally go see a Prince hologram (especially if with his real-life players) any day of the week. Anybody else here see the new Blade Runner? If they could make Elvis and Marilyn holograms... eek

This is, by far, the best thing the estate has done. With so many live recordings, this format is almost endless. They can do a tour where Prince is on screen and the band backs him from various points in his career.

They can do larger scale one with hits using material from Welcome 2 America or Musicology.

They can do ones for diehards using material from the One Nite Alone Tour or some of the 3rdEyeGirl tours. They can go back in time and let the folks who love the 80's stuff relive that era.

I like it. I guess I need to cancel my previous plans for April and plan to be in Minneapolis.

Prince clearly stated in a interview how he felt about Holograms. He said it was evil and he did not ever want a hologram in his likeness and he goes more into the reasons he felt that way. It’s on record people. Prince did not want a hologram of himself EVER.

I just paid VIP last night and then this is announced...not happy. Last year Celebration attendees had intimate concerts from Prince’s legacy bands and George Clinton...it was special and we felt close to him. They projected his image on screen for the last song PR and it worked in PP and was very emotional but it won’t have the same impact in this larger space with 10,000 people. Sounds like a huge $ grab to me 😭😭😭

Target Center has confirmed that this is handled by the same people who created a similar experience for the Elvis estate: https://www.graceland.com...stage.aspx .

Anyone attending celebration automatically gets a ticket to this event. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of other intimate events that no one else gets to experience.

Yes, exactly. It stands to reason since the company handling the Elvis Estate is also handling the Prince Estate. Still, I remember when the Elvis Estate did this, and I didn't quite understand it. I mean--what's the point of having live musicians stand in front of a screen and play along with the screen? How is that different from Karaoke? And, do I really want to pay to see Karaoke, regardless of how talented the Karaoke performers are? And, maybe because I was fortunate enough to see Prince perform over fifty times that I'm being a bit snobbish or inconsiderate of those who have never seen Prince live, but how does this substitute for seeing Prince live? Rather than having this fancy Karaoke event, it would be better if they just showed rare live footage. Even though I have tons of live shows, I would probably pay to see one of the rare live shows in great condition. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy that the Estate is doing more and has plans to do more, but this just seems corny...not even shady...just damn corny. I'm probably going to attend the celebration since I'll be in town for the Prince from Minneapolis Symposium that's being held at the U of Minnesota, but my hope is that soon the floodgates will open, releasing tons of live audio and video. Then, I can do my own Karaoke performance in the privacy and comfort of my own home.
