Honestly, how f'ed up is this? Who is it who green-lit the promotion and ticket sales -- let alone the hiring of tour guides and staff, who are now out of work -- if there was any doubt about the approval?

the city now “has until Dec. 23 to act on the rezoning request.” If no action is taken by that time, the rezoning request will be approved.

Exactly there should have been no ticket sales at ALL (NOR the call out for fams to 'buy accom and travel, it's ON' until EVERYTHING was sorted. Make for positive yes experience for all and by word of mouth, continue to increase tourism to Minneapolis. Not rocket science. Though seems that's what Chanhassen doesn't want. Is that like...a retirement town? (no offense to any locals) Who doesn't want their city to be economically successful and enhanced by tourism? At least that's what so many are always working to improve...seems backwards for Chanhassen to be like no no no! disbelief With the mass majority of us coming into MN, most people were staying in MPLS - AWAY from Chanhassen - and sorting our OWN way to get out there (which is also a sore point btw). They could have waited to have EVERYTHING, including their proposed shuttle service from MOA sorted as well.

I wonder how other local businesses or organizations can be compelled to speak out on this, like chamber of commerce or whatever. Tons of businesses stand to lose money from a delay. The transit issues were already resolved with off-site parking and shuttle service. The members opposed wanted to delay this so they held on to their "concerns" until it was too late to address them. Good luck with your BS when it gets called out on the Today show at the top of every hour.

yep I think that's exatly what is going on. To be honest. It feels like a giant snub to those of us who were more then ready, in short notice, to head to MPLS to celebrate all things Prince, spending the dollars to make this trip once of a lifetime. And...they don't want it?! Us? Our Dollar bills. Well screw that noise. I will keep my money for Minneapolis and St. Paul areas and not spend a dime IN Chanhassen.

Obviously they were lead to believe it would be approved. I watched the city council meeting. Graceland said they cut way back the number of tickets being sold and the hours of operations. They made it clear they were trying to walk before they ran. What I don't understand is how is it that the city council members had so many questions? Considering the city council meeting was so close to opening day I just assumed this meeting was more of a formality. Obviously not. Why wasn't this stuff addressed before now? The way some of the city council members spoke you'd think they didn't know anything about this and tonight was the first time they were hearing about any of these plans. I blame the city because if there was doubt about getting this approved I don't think Graceland would have started selling tickets and hiring staff. What a mess.

I completely agree Rogifan. The dropped the bunk bigtime and the sad thing now is this dark cloud is going to hang over Paisley Park sad I don't like that. This isn't how this is supposed to be launched to the world disbelief

This is all BS. Obviously the mayor and/or city council were made aware of the date Bremer and Graceland wanted to open. Why didn't they say at the time it was too soon and they needed more time and then provide Bremer and Graceland a detailed list of everything they would need addressed in order for them to approve? It's complete BS that none of these questions came up until 2 days before scheduled opening.

Also based on the poll that the mayor tweeted out he is not in agreement. Let's not forget when this was originally announced the mayor sent out a press release in approval. There were also some warm and friendly tweets between him and Londell. I don't know if it was a lack of communication between the mayor and the city council or what but someone dropped the ball. I'm ashamed for my city tonight. What a joke.

Unreal. Really upset and disappointed. I am already 700 dollars into it. Have made travel plans and have already paid for hotel room for 2 nights which is non refundable . VERY unlike anything Prince himself would have done. Loving MN as much as he did he would be very disappointed

I agree - I don't want to know where I'm at cost wise omg But non of it is refundable disbelief I mean, I'm trying to stay positive. There is a lot going on that week...going to CELEBRATE PRINCE with the fams, as intended. Super crushed PP is not a part of that, but not going to let it completely ruin this once in a lifetime trip. I can't afford to go all the time - as I sure most of us can't so for them to 'push it back' and possibly offer 'rainchecks' - that just won't do.

That's the thing about expectations. THEY don't have to do anything. It would be gracious of them TO rectify this situation to make it positive for all parties - Prince estate - Fams - Neighbours - City - businesses that could profit from the increased traffic - all around... but they could literally dust their hands off and shrug. Let's hope not though. beg

I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

omg It's definitely worse for those of you going this week! They email and say 'updates soon' what exactly is SOON when it's supposed to open in TWO DAYS?! I hope a miracle happens, for all of our sakes, as we trek to MN to pay respects and celebrate Prince.

Dan Campion, Elise Ryan, and Bethany Tjornhon are the 3 council members that are preventing Paisley Park from opening.

The council are just doing their job. Its the estates fault of applying for change of use so close the date they had already sold tickets for. Worse still, they are still selling tickets for this week.

I feel sorry for those caught up, but looking at the lateness and content of the tribute, the lack of information, the charges for the dance parties and etc, I'm not entirely surprised. I just wish they had sucked it up and gone for an April 21st 2017 date and planned everything properly.

Oh please, some of us still remember the Celebrations that were rescheduled/cancelled at the last minute. Or the Toronto show that was cancelled last minute and then they pretended it was never scheduled, despite there being photos of the 3rdEyeGirl gear on stage.
