I wonder how many tickets have been sold, and to which days/times (I'm sure most were sold for the tribute weekend). Depending on the quantity, I'm wondering how likely it would be for the council to allow tours just for existing ticket-holders -- I would be OK with them changing (somewhat) the time of my tour if they wanted to consolidate the tours to more limited time blocks. And of course, they would stop selling any more tickets until this s%$-show is resolved.

-

I'm keeping my fingers crossed they find a way to honor sold tickets (and not just by refunding), but not holding my breath.

The need to honor current ticket holders, especially ones coming from out of town who have paid for airfare/lodging that isn't refundable.

So has there been no official statement from the people who collected the money from the ticket sales? Because that's exactly who I would be real pissed off with right about now. IJS!

Apparently they've sent emails to ticket holders saying they would have more information soon.

I thought everything was completely ready-to-go...While I admit I wasn't closely following the situation, I had no idea there had to be a council vote on it. Did the estate not feel that this could have been a possibility? hmmm

I just emailed them. And I know they aren't going to give a rats a** about anything I say. But I feel better venting. I have VIP tickets for the 14th.......

******

I honestly don't know what the hold up is. Sounds like a safety concern as far as pedestrians, traffic, etc. But from what I understand, they (Paisley Park) themselves have this figured out between shuttles and VIP parking. I highly doubt they want anyone's lives in danger either. So you can't tell me they don't have a plan in place for all this.

I also understand, that as a whole, none of you could care less about what people have spent to make this trip happen. It personally affects you in no way, so why should you care right? If you did care...........you'd find a way in the next 24 hrs to let this opening happen, and also let it continue to stay open....if only on a trial period. Then re-evaluate if you need to. From what I'm reading, its seeming more and more like a power trip for a couple people on the city council, and nothing more. Believe me, we have had those were I live too.....constantly say no to things that would benefit the city, just to stir things up and seem "important". Those people are also no longer on the city council board because people got smart and never voted for them again.

Do the right thing.

My email to them proposing a compromise:

Dear Chanhassen City Council:

The compromise solution is to temporarily open Paisley Park for the week of the tribute so that fans from around the world can pay their respects and visit Paisley Park. It can then be closed until all questions are answered and there is a more permanent plan that satisfies all of your constituents. I think that it is incorrect to suggest that the Council only has one shot at this because there is a short-term and a long-term solution that can be enacted separately.

If safety and traffic are the primary concerns, then safety and traffic are going to be an even bigger issue when thousands of fans from around the world come to Paisley Park next week whether it is open or not. With that in mind, I urge you to hold an emergency session today to vote on this temporary solution.

Thanks for your consideration.

There had to be a council vote because the council votes on ALL rezoning issues.

Here's what I don't understand: Prince held events at Paisley Park all the time. How? Did he have to get a permit every time he let people into the place? I mean...those events required tickets and caused traffic issues and whatnot. How did they deal with that?

So they tabled the rezoning. Okay. There has to be a way to allow the tours to happen on a limited, temporary basis while the permanent rezoning is considered.

Those are good questions...It may have to do with certain laws that apply to museums only or something like that? Maybe they can work out some sort of temporary basis as you say, I feel bad for people who had everything planned.

Opening day for tours will be October 6, 2016. Tickets currently available for purchase through December 31, 2016. Tickets for 2017 will go on sale at a later time. Sign up for email updates below to be notified when these are available.

Prices and tour options are subject to change without notice. Tour ticket purchases are non-refundable. Tickets/Tours are subject to the City of Chanhassen approval. A ticket is required for everyone age 5 and up. Children under 5 are not permitted.

Well there it is. Anyone with tickets can forget about a refund and they still have our money. On top of money for plane, hotel and car for a FAMILY which is also non-refundable and I cannot get back.

We were going in the beginning of the week because that was the only time we could get time off work, so won't be able to go to any dance party, tribute, etc. PP was it. I'm heartbroken all over again. And mad as hell. And honestly, I feel a little stupid for falling for this scam. mad pissed bawl

I watched this entire meeting. It was very respectful for most of the meeting, especially the questions they asked Bremer and Graceland but then at the end when the mayor was asking for a vote these council members just went off and started ranting about all the things not addressed. It was as if this was the first time they were hearing about this proposal. Shocking really.

Yes, every time Prince held a concert at Paisley there would have to be a permit issued. There is a big difference however between a one-off permit with limited impact and a long term permit with potentially more extreme impact. Let's be real. There weren't that many people going to Paisley Park parties and concerts, and least compared to all of the out-of-the- woodwork "fans" that will likely go there now that he's dead.

StopIt

Excuse me?

There is someone out there actually believing that any of the poobahs billing at 6 minute intervals for Bremer, AND

the few (if any) competent folks among the collective heirs' bevy of legal teams; AND

the juggernaut that is Graceland Holdings; AND

(the McMillan et al lazy shamtastics) AND

many more,

ALL collectively (yet blindly) banked on some po-dunk City-Counsel's initial brainfarts without Anyone dotting every "i" and crossing every "t" every single step of the way since?!

Local public service people have to be closely tended to, massaged, incentivized, and have their asses kissed consistently by the interest groups, period.

Lawyers know this, its their job.

But don't worry, those members will get paid off in more loans against the estate and from elsewhere for an emergency meeting for a "temporary permit" to park on the grass and dump confused mourners with lowered expectations.

Hummus cracker in a tote bag, Damn.

legally, i would think that the Park could still go ahead with the scheduled tours by re-defining them as a "Celebration".

after all, Prince regularly held Celebrations at Paisley Park, and no re-zoning permits were required for these events.

Exactly in no way would the Graceland people put the money up for this if they were not assured that the opening would get started.

This is people on the council sabortaging the project. Which is surprising considering what a good neighbor everyone said he was in Chanhassen. eek They want to fail because they could allow it temporaily so the three months worth of tickets holders could come out. What a bunch of asshats.

i think so too. matters like this are usually not scuttled at the last minute. someone must have made city council approval seem like a slam dunk, then changed the game last minute.

If any locals are interested in voicing their opinions directly to the Mayor and city council, there is now this forum:

Starting in October, The Mayor Is In will be on the road. All are welcome to join the mayor at various Chanhassen locations for an informal meet-and-greet. Simply show up and speak with Denny and any other City Council or staff members there. Stop by for coffee and some good dialogue about whatever is on your mind.

Here's the link to the dates/locations.

The "out-of-the-wordwork "fans"" are what PP will depend on if it wants to maintain itself as a permanent public museum/facility. It'll have to attract a broader audience than just the self-described "real fans/fams."
