I've visited Paisley Park many times, and I've never spent a dime in Chanhassen. Have you been there? It's a bedroom suburb where Prince happened to build Paisley Park. For example, I don't believe there's even a single rental car office in Chanhassen.

Chanhassen is a suburb of 23,000 people. Since when do people not spend money in suburbs? And people think the citizens of Chanhassen are snobs... [Edited 10/4/16 15:35pm]

The thing is regarding hotels/motels, Chanhassen only has the puny Chanhassen Inn, there are no Hotels or motels in Chanhassen itself!! For that u have to either go to Eden Prairie, Chaska, Shakopee or Bloomington!! So, its obvious that Chanhassen doesnt want to cater to tourism!!

Not true. There are actually 4 hotels in Chanhassen, one is right across the street from my development (which is off of hwy 5, 2 miles west of PP).

This situation is certainly not the fault of the City Counsel. They are acting as a dligent municipal body and evaluating an important issue in what appears to be a methodical manner.

The fact that tickets were sold, and announcements made about the opening of PP as a museum before this issue was put before the City Counsel, is a shameful and gross example of mismanagement that is gravely against the interests of the estate and the legacy of Prince Rogers Nelson.

The Bremer Trust has revealed itself to be an amateurish and shamefully inept steward. Any beneficiary of PRN's estate should be in court this afternoon petitioning for the removal of the Trust.

The tens of thousands of dollars of fees that the Trust has charged to the Estate should be disgorged.

Agreed, three thousand, one hundred and twenty one percent (see what I did there?) - Bremer Trust has repeatedly shown itself to be completely incompetent and unable to handle this estate. The appalling manner in which they have so far handled the planning of one tribute concert and now this ... I just hope to Hundalasiliah that they are not able to continue in the capacity of managing the estate/trust/whatever the wording us (legal stuffs is hard). Can you imagine what a gigantic clusterfuck the releasing of any kind of vault music would be?

When you out-clusterfuck Prince, one of the most collosally constant clusterfuckers around (who I love and mourn every fucking day) then there is seriously something wrong. He was able to hold Celebrations that appeared to be done by very few people with no involvement from any Big Organizations, and here we're finding out that apparently they not only knew that it wasn't a sure deal that the city would allow it to go through starting tomorrow, but by the language used in that statement (that they were told they would be selling tickets "at their own risk") that pretty darn clearly shows that the city was not going to just rubber stamp it.

Having said that, I think it's shitty that none of the City Council members or the Mayor got in touch with the Star Tribune or any national media (or for fuck's sake, Dr. Funkenberry if he's still doing his blog thing) to warn people that they had not given any kind of red light or promises of an approval in advance of their meeting - something. They know that people are planning trips, making airplane arrangements, making hotel arrangements, taking off work, making childcare arrangements, etc. to visit their city, so that would have (in my eyes anyway) made them not look like the crotchety bastards that they are coming across as currently.

My friend had agreed to go to PP with me (I live in Ohio and was lucky enough to visit once in 2003 and twice in 2004, seeing Prince play once as well as doing two dance party things and trying to pretend that THAT'S NOT MOTHERFUCKING PRINCE RIGHT THERE WATCHING ME DANCE OH MY GOD) and he has suggested MLK weekend as he has the day off, and Southwest was having a brief little airfare sale, so we bought non-refundable tickets to MPLS in mid-January (the lady at Southwest who I bought the ticket from kept saying things like 'You know it will be really really cold, right?', and I will now be paying for his ticket and I guess just staying home if it doesn't happen by that point, which seems rather likely.

And I wasn't able to see the Revolution. Or attend any of the public dance parties the week of his passing. Or any time after that. And I wasn't able to see any of those NPG shows before the Rev shows. And I'm not able to see either the official family-sponsored Tribute next Thursday (I think that's when it is?) or the one with Sheila and The Time the following Saturday (even though it's in my home state, damn it) because I've been starting a new job and buying a house, and taking care of my family, and next Thursday my cousin is getting married in Charlotte, SC, blah blah blah...

What I'm trying to say is, I was sooooo looking forward to this chance to mourn his passing. I absolutely feel that I have not been able to do that despite crying a lot for the first few months, more than I'd admit to most people who aren't on the org, and lately I have moments (whole days even) when I can listen to his music and not find sad irony in the lyrics and not get incredibly dismayed by the fact that "There'llneverbeanotherlikehim," you know? and after reading that it was not approved this morning, I was trying to listen to him because I needed a pick-me-up, a confidence booster, and throughout 34 of the 41 years I've been on this third apartment from the sun, his music is what does that for me, and I'm hoping that if I find a way to get this feeling the fuck out in an appropriate setting then I can get that feeling of joy again from the music. I mean, I still get the joy but it's mixed with such intense grief that it then becomes about that. Today I had a good 45 minutes of that Old Prince Feeling, listening to a mix cd I made back in '01 of various tracks from NPGC Vol 1.. but once again, it then became melancholy and morose, and I'm really this doesn't get a ton of press coverage because my friend will be stressed about it, and he's a good guy to offer to go with me, and FUCK this is just as mess, and I need to go to bed.

I guess I had to get that out there. Fucking Prince. Even in death it's still Lucy pulling that football away from Charlie Browns like us sad

I'm sorry but people's personal issues aren't the fault of Bremer or Graceland Holdings (Elvis has nothing to do with this). People need to stop expecting the Estate or family to provide closure for them! People need to find that on their own!

prince eye yes

It was the stupid city council member who said that. Most residents have no issues with this outside of traffic concerns being taken in to consideration. The ones that do are most likely fans who think it's opening too soon.

I can't hardly believe that PP would go thru all of the trouble to hire employees, change the entrances, clean off the fence, do everything the city asked, if they even thought there was a chance that they were not going to get the permits. Someone from the city had to have led them on.

And the temporary dates the city allowed to move forward, (while grateful for those days) How do those dates make any sense? Thursday the 6th, Saturday the 8th and Friday the 14th. Why not let them open the 6th, 7th, 8th, & 9th? That would be the 1st weekend. I just don't understand how the city picked those dates out of their hat?

14th is the day after the tribute concert. I suppose they picked the 8th because it's a Saturday. Hopefully they'll get enough people that they can get some idea on traffic. I get the feeling the mayor wanted to move forward and adjust as necessary whereas the city council members weren't going to approve until they knew exactly what plans were in place for every situation.

I agree with Alex. The entity running PP should NEVER have sold tickets to anyone without first having all of the legal issues resolved. People seem to be so focused on the money due in taxes in January that they are continuing to add to the chaos of the Estate resolution. They should have waited a year to open Paisley Park. A deal could be made with the IRS and the state DRS. What is needed at this minute is new management across the board - they should call Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger or even Bruce Springsteen (the people who share Prince's supernova status) and find out who handles their money. Even the people who pulled the Jackson estate out of the abyss. The professionals have to get in there and straighten the whole thing out.

i feel terrible for the people who thought they had jobs as tour guides out at Paisley Park.

how crushing would that be? just..... sorry? no job for you. better luck next time eek

oh well, such is life. i sincerely hope that everyone involved can find a way to make the museum project work.

on the plus side, elvis presley enterprises does seem genuinely devoted to this cause, but too bad nobody thought about obtaining event permits for three day weekends or something just in case the zoning application fell through....

good luck to everyone involved!!!!

No doubt mistakes were made but to treat all the people involved as just a bunch of clueless amateurs is a bit much. Prince did business with Bremer which is one of the reasons they were chosen to handle his estate. Londell McMillan was one who helped get slave taken off his face. And Graceland has successfully been running the Elvis estate for years with 600,000 people per year visiting. I lay a big part of the blame on whoever decided to hold the city council approval meeting only 2 days before scheduled open. The city council meeting should have been weeks earlier OR the city should have demanded the opening date be pushed to later in the month or even next year. Again, Graceland would not have gone through all the work of getting PP ready, getting a website up and running, selling tickets, hiring staff etc. if they knew the city council wasn't going to approve.

I was planning on going the 14th but was holding off buying tickets to until I saw reviews from others too see if VIP was worth the extra cost. Now the 14th is one of the days it will be open but can't get tickets as they are no longer on sale. UGH. I hope by then maybe they will have some forsale at the door.

I actually have to give props to the mayor. I think it's because of him they were able to open on a limited basis. Sure it's not perfect for everyone but it's still better than having to refund everyone's ticket. And driving by there every day the parking lot is full of vehicles at 5am and 9pm; people have been working very hard to get this ready. I hope it's successful in the end.

The council should have just spoken up sooner! I told those council members don't ever tour my beautiful city of Charleston SC. I have a VIP ticket for the 7th. I cancelled everything because of the drama. I am so so heartbroken! I wanted to go opening weekend so I could breath the same air Prince did. Doubt if I ever go now. Delta, Holiday Inn, and Alamo car rental actually refunded me completely because they were shocked at the situation and had sympathy for me. I think those council members have made enemies all over the world . I think they were dead wrong and did not do there job at all .

I can't even sort out how I'm feeling right now. They released that email yesterday saying they are going to cram everyone onto the 6, 8 and 14th of Oct. I had reconciled with the fact that they weren't approving Paisley Park opening - ONLY because, I can't go on the 14th and figured I might as well focus on enjoying the things I am attending. And trying to be optimistic about that. But this whole ordeal has impacted the fundraiser planned that day which really is devastating, all the efforts to raise funds for that Safe Haven Homeless Shelter for Youth. Now people are already emailing about refunds. I will completely hang the possible failure of this event on 'them, for forcing everyone to crunch into ONE day. And those people who have other events - including non-refundable bus tours and such. I mean, they are leaving everything up in the air. A 8 year old could organize this better than this group of so called professionals!

What a mess. I'm upset that I can go on the 14th but don't have tickets now they are not even selling them. You would think they would have some sort of ticket exchange site. Where others that can go can buy tickets off of others that can't go. They must of sold a lot of tickets for the first few weeks. Also with that being said you think they would of let them open 12th, 13th, and 14th knowing that people were going to be in town those 3 days.

Here we go again. Maybe from lessons learned they might wait for city council approval in December.

According to Tyka the official opening of PP will be in December.

She's also looking forward to the opening of "Purple Rain" singer's Paisley Park compound in Minnesota, which will opens its doors to the public as a museum on Oct. 6 for a limited time before its official opening in December.

But then you have Dr. Funk and others all up in arms claiming Bremer and Graceland are messing with PP and not telling the truth. Um, Prince had over 6,000 articles of clothing, 1,000 shoes, 150 guitars, drum sets, pianos, keyboards, awards, cars, motorcycles and lots of other memorabilia. This stuff has to be displayed some how. No there might not have been a "Purple Rain room" but how else are they supposed to display this stuff? And from what I can tell from the video footage they didn't paint over anything, they're using special lighting to make the room purple. Dr. Funk says he's just looking out for the fans. Well then I think he also has a responsibility to not stir up shit that's only going to get fans all worked up. rolleyes

From everything I'm seeing and hearing on TV, it looks amazing. And they have worked very hard on it!

But then you have Dr. Funk and others all up in arms claiming Bremer and Graceland are messing with PP and not telling the truth. I actually thought it looked really good, they are taking great care with everything that was left. Even the song lyrics that he was writing are untouched. Dr. Funk just needs to stop.

It bothered me seeing some of the outfits that they showed. It's just not the same, the outfits no longer have the magic in them. cry

i agree! and knowing that Paisley Park is being preserved is something every Prince fan can only be grateful for. i can't wait to see the tour but i think i will wait until it opens officially, down the road.

But, how will it feel to someone like you who has been to Paisley Park many times for events while Prince was there? Will you be okay returning...

as frustrating as all of the "plans" and "announcements" have been, because pretty much across the board none of them have been well thought out or compleated, i am not suprised at all that they are not "ready" to open. it really is way to soon and maybe it is the universe voicing a similar opinion. but what i can not believe is how lame what they have done is, at least what was shown in the reports. the purple room looks like a low brow exhibt at a local county museum. the ugly wooden pony wall surrounding huge iconing pieces of history, sitting in the middle of a weird empty room with a purple light, left me underwhelemd to say the least. the motorcycle has been in paisly for years, and the beautiful purple jacket hangs in a rumpled ill fitting mess on a cheap motionless body-form. the rest of the things shown on the tour are just as they were, oh ya other than the wall of records they covered the elevator with???????. i am sad they are making this so hard on all of us, adding more and more anger to all of the lingering grief is just not nessaccery, and honsestly very painful.

Well apparently not everyone agrees (as evidence by a post above mine). My worry is things don't go smoothly because there are fans that are so angry (doesn't help with Dr. Funk stoking that anger throwing tea and shade all over the place). sad

honestly i'd be only happy to return. i'd want to re-visit my old favorite dance spots, remember how cool things were and say goodbye one last time. it would be a kind of closure for me, personally. to say goodbye and know that it is goodbye.....

Paisley Park is an old, old friend. me love Paisley Park. obviously, it can never be the same without Prince but it will always be magic.

so as long as things go smoothly and there are no more glitches i think folks will be glad to visit Paisley Park.

folks might shed tears, but imo it will be in a good way, being there with Prince's spirit.
