If you are looking to do a dinner and partying, Shout (www.heretoserverestaurants.com ) @ 14th/P'tree would be a good spot because you can have dinner in a private dining room (or in an open space) and then go up stairs to the rooftop where the DJ spins and you can over look part of the city. Shout is in walking distance to a few other spots:
TAP is a hip gastropub and has live music on Friday nights
TROIS is a sexy French restaurant and the downstairs bar is a good place to mix and mingle

Opera One of THE hottest nightclubs in Atlanta, you want to be there!

Another area to do dinner and partying is in Atlantic Station. You can goto Strip (part of the Here to Serve restaurant group, www.heretoserverestaurants.com) and again have dinner downstairs in a private or open area, then goto the second level for drinks and the DJ (lots of see and be seen action) or goto the 3rd level for a rooftop lounge atmosphere. I had an event there recently on a Thursday, Graycap23 checked it out, he can tell you what he thinks. Strip is also in walking distance to a few other spots:
Dolce, Geisha House - owned by Ashton Kutcher and Wilmer V (like the ones in LA, CA) www.dolcegroup.com. They also have a bowling alley called Ten Pin, but it is not your Brunswick! Come dressed to impress with plenty of money in your pocket!
Lobby at TWELVE Hotel - part of the Concentrics group. It is a restaurant and lounge. Very industry. You run into a lot of musicians and actors.
Fox Sports Grille - the name says it all! www.foxsportsgrill.com

Just some thoughts. The two locations seem all inclusive and your out of town guests won't have to worry about getting around the city. 14th/P'tree and Atlantic Station are 10 minutes a part, so anyone staying near by wouldn't have to spend a ton of money on a cab.

THe BEST way to experience midtown/downtown attractions is to go to the Georgia aquarium at 8am on a Friday, then accross the way to the world of Coke and then CNN. It is the ONLY way to avoid little children crawling all over your legs and feet. You will enjoy ATL much better that way. Trust me.

Also...boyfriend and I spent Valentine's at the Evergreen Resort in Stone Mountain. It's quite affordable if you want an out of the way hotel to stay at. Plus champaigne, couples massage, dinner and breakfast. Just a thought
