I drew Prince...what do U guys think?

Hello people of Prince.org, I'm actually not new here but I rarely ever came on here using the account I had and therefore I forgot my old account and decided to make a new one!
Anyway I do portrait art and I finally drew Prince after years of wanting to do him but either being unable to find the perfect picture of him to use as a reference, lacking time, or just putting it off. Anyhow I've finally completed my piece of him and I even tried to give him the original piece (framed and cut down to appropriate size) at an after-show I attended when he came to Calgary. As I'm sure you guys can imagine it didn't work out as planned...his bodyguard just shooed me away so I didn't even get to show him or make him acknowledge it (I guess I could have tried harder to make him acknowledge it...it kills me now) however his band members Morris Hayes, Cassandra O' Neal, and John Blackwell saw it and really liked it...especially Morris Hayes. Morris Hayes is the one to break the news to me that he doesn't accept any gifts...I sort of knew this but I guess I just brushed it off because I understand some gifts but other gifts like artwork? not really...I spent 4 months on this one it's my biggest and longest (time wise) piece to date.
Anyway here is a picture of the piece I did:

[img:$uid]http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x324/funkybigband/jkjkkuloyl7l7ll7l7l.png[/img:$uid]
Sorry the camera quality is shit, I actually haven't had a chance to get it scanned on a decent scanner yet, it actually looks a lot better than this...once I get it scanned maybe I'll post it again.

Anyway, thanks for viewing... and any feedback is appreciated!

Is that pencil?

Either way, it's so detailed that it would qualify for ultra-realism, me thinks.

Expertly rendered.

It's really quite brilliant.

Looks almost like a mixture of photoshop and airbrushing (I mean that as a compliment).

It's refreshing to see some real art on this forum from time to time. thumbs up!

Haha well thank you!

It's taken on an iPhone in shitty lighting so that is a compliment for sure.

How long did it take to complete the ^ drawing? Did you consistently work on it, or take breaks?

Thanks everyone.

It took me 4 months to complete.

I did take breaks here and there but generally I'd work on it for 4-8 hours a day.

Great drawing! Do you have a website to display your art work? Also, try again to give Prince the drawing. If he reads the posts on this thread, then he will know you tried to give it to him. Mailing it is another possibility.

thumbs up! thumbs up! You are the reason why I gave up the notion of creating art for a living. lol

P.S. What really impresses me is the the detail, definition, and symmetry of the fingers and palms of the hands... These are notoriously hard to capture even for the most talented artists. wink

Aw, thanks for the wonderful comments everyone...I greatly appreciate the feedback.

Yes I do have a website but it's basically under construction right now because I wanna get some pictures re-scanned and change the layout of the whole site...once I get that done I'll gladly post it if you guys are interested in viewing it!

For kicks I'll post another crappy camera quality picture of my Prince drawing so you guys can see the picture more as it's whole:

Again, the articulation of the hands is what is so impressive to me. This is one of the best artistic renderings I have seen of Prince yet; I would love to see what you do with oil paints. It is all too easy to take what could be a great composition and muddy it with too much color trying to get it "just right." I would love to see you do this drawing in black and white with oils. wink

Thanks again, it looks a lot better in person though...hopefully I can get it scanned soon with a decent scanner and post that instead.

Also, I'm currently doing a tribute piece of Prince (with him in it and elements that represent him well) using oil paints. I'm not finished of the piece yet but when I do I'll definitely take a picture of the finished results and post them!

Oops I must have missed seeing this comment.

If I tried to mail him the piece I probably wouldn't be guaranteed or let known that he got the drawing...and it doesn't help that I was already told by his keyboardist that he doesn't accept any gifts. It would probably be a waste of time and effort so I'd just like to think or hope that if Prince would've seen it, he would've liked it.

If you can't get this drawing to the person you intended it for--Prince! Consider selling it to someone who would really appreciate it. I am really looking forward to seeing your oil painting. wink BTW this is SO MUCH better than the paintings that Prince authorized in 2009. I saw those up close and although I know that realism didn't play a factor--your drawing is so much better than the quick, quirky media that brought those into being.

Wow!!!

Thats really great, so good its almost creepy in a good way. Maybe Prince should have been more greatful and sign you as the NPG Artist (That dosen't have to shake their booty, play an instrument or rap).

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

It is always best to not listen to a person's co-worker. They are usually envious of their boss/co-worker. Maybe? Prince does/does not accept gifts. Try sending him something any way. Post more drawings on the Org, Facebook, your website, etc.
