When asked whether Prince plans to add a forum to the LF.com site, they say that Prince doesn't want to because he thinks there are already a lot of places, like Prince.org, for them to gather.

When asked about what kind of unreleased material from the "Vault" will eventually be put up on the site, they say that the Sacrifice of Victor is up now, and that the Ryde Divine and a "complete show from Purple Rain" will be added.

In other words, it looks like a VHS copy of the Syracuse show is being downloaded now! lol

They say that Prince is considering what additional audio, if any, will be put up, but it sounds like the promise of footage dating back to the 70s will consist mostly of stuff that's previously been made publicly available.

The one other interesting thing of note was that neither designer is someone who really had much prior Prince knowledge. Both said they never saw NPGMC and Prince didn't show it to them, so they designed LF.com without any real knowledge of what had been there before. (They say they did talk to some former members about what worked and didn't work.)

When they were discussing the video footage that had been compiled, I don't think either had any idea that the Purple Rain show they were referencing was already publicly released so I'm sure they're going to be oblivious to why people will complain that it's nothing new.

That's not promising at all. Neither is the fact that they didn't seem to know a lot about Prince or his previous web presences before working on this project.

It means that whatever Prince gives them they will think it's rare exclusive material, when it may be stuff that has been officially available for years. Like the Syracuse show... maybe we'll get 3 Chains of Gold! Videos from Grafitti Bridge! woohoo rolleyes

We certainly saw that this week. disbelief

Oh for crying out loud, I barely spend time on the Org, it's just that now there's a new album & site coming out that I'm a bit more active. Hell, I probably would have posted just a handful of comments if the site had just been crap, but this is just a fortress of FAIL and Scott just keeps making things worse.

And if this place was like the NIN fan forum Echoing The Sound (and most fans were like the fans there), then I wouldn't even have needed to post any or my "rants",simply because other fans would have already done it. Oh, and Trent would have read those comments and acted upon them. Imagine that, an artist who cares about what his fans say!

But in Prince world I'm the big evil guy who hates Prince, yet some obsessed fan who's been banned from just about any fan forum gets invited to Prince's house. No, I'm not jealous, I don't wanna visit Prince in LA, but if I'd been there, you can bet your ass that either you wouldn't be looking at lotusflow3r.com like it is today, or you would have read a major story on how Prince behaved like a total ass to a fan who pointed out flaws in his website. Because I'm not the kind of fool who'd tell a reporter from the Huffington Post that "this night will change your life".

Whoa Dude, don't flatter yourself. lol I am not obsessed over you being a fan, I could careless about you actually. I commented to your post which I rarely do, because just like everyone else, you put your comments out there on a public forum for people to read and obviously respond to, so expect them to do that. I actually was very nice to you in asking the question, but obviously the question ticked off a sensitive nerve in you.Funny though, how it seems you don't like others making assumptions about you, yet you're full of criticism of others. Carry on.

It took them HOW MANY DAYS to fix the Mplsound WAV ZIP? And that's an issue that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

For example, they indicated that they are going to make video content available in two different resolutions so that people with machines that can handle high-quality content can get it,

Scott was very intersted in the issues and concerned about how people responded on this site about Prince.

And yet they don't even bother to set up an account here and talk directly to the fans.

1) Those guys shouldn't be at the gig. They should be at home having sleepless nights, and contacting people who do have skills to help them salvage this mess. They don't deserve freebies or perks.

2) It's 2009, and LF ain't free. Until the day these guys admit they have no clue what they're doing and pay back the fans, they don't deserve an ounce of sympathy from anyone.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many Prince fans will not confront those people who are ripping them off. I hear all these stories about Americans and how they don't put up with shit and enforce their customer rights -- and yet here I see fan after fan giving these guys the benefit of the doubt in the face of overwhelming evidence and eating up every bullshit excuse they come up with.

Indeed.
Combining the number and type of issues and the time until resolution of them you would conclude that Scott runs a (very) small shop.
If that is assumed to be so: how can he be at the show?

Why did it take a few days to respond (correctly, though) to my simple email?
Shouldn't stuff like that be handled quicker?
Same for the support telephone: mailbox full, no answer on the day of the launch.
All that points to a small operation.
Not that that is bad, but it makes you wonder when you put things into context.

Of course we might be missing things, and Scott can explain, but the looks of it are what we currently have...
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

My point is that the vibe I got was that they were trying to do a good job, but were frankly a bit over their heads.

On the content side, they basically admitted to not really being particularly familiar with Prince's work, and that Prince was dictating it all.

So in the end, I think you have to blame Prince for the fact that the club is predictably underwhelming. He's the one who just decided on a whim to hire these guys (based in part on a personal relationship) without really diligencing whether they were up to the task of EXECUTING a project like this.

The fact that the developers have communicated with the org to give updates on their troubleshooting shows that they are making an effort, but you have to blame Prince for the choice of content and decision to hire a couple individuals to do something of a greater traffic magnitude than what they are used to dealing with.

I tried that and they wouldn't play for some reason. I have the FLV player--but do I have to use that? If I uninstall the FLV player, do they just play in Windows Media Player?

I'm not a member of the site, so I don't know why you would be having any issues downloading the .flv files using a third-party app. These free apps (that I won't name here) work very well on other sites for grabbing the Flash files for playback or conversion to audio.

We don't know how many people joined. The 3000 number is for the Org.

I think you all are re-hashing the same arguments.

It is only the fault of Prince because no matter what the people he hired had/have done, he should be giving final approval on everything (right?). If he doesn't know what needs to be done, hire somebody. Hire a third party firm to test the site and hire one to provide support. That's the job of a business man who doesn't want to disappoint or alienate his "customers", not a web developer.

Also, we know what's there now, so why are we complaining about it over and over and over? It's been two weeks, fifty weeks to go.lol As has been said by almost everyone, the site was underwhelming at launch. Lets wait and see what content eventually gets added before we continue with the whine tasting. biggrin

Y'all act like Prince doesn't go online. Like he hasn't heard about or read our complaints for himself. And like he hasn't consistently come through for his fans when something goes bad in Princeland. Fifty more weeks. Chillax.
