Prince should be arrested!! HE TRIED TO KILL ME TONIGHT!!! .
I should'a known something when "It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night" played on the p/l before the show... - Me, "Musicology concert report - June 2, San Jose" What can I say - this was my 15th Prince show & I can honestly say IT WAS THE BEST SHOW I'VE EVER BEEN TO!!! Better than last night, better than ONA @ the Paramount (which is HARD TO BEAT!)... Just amazing. The sweat (he drenched me!), the heat... My neck was already hurt from last night - they need to start passing out neck braces w/ the cd b/c I bobbed my big head like never before!! His energy was incredible - I think he was still high from how hype we were last night, so he came out READY. We were so loud in there, I wanted them to stay on stage forever! And the baby blue suit was killin' me! "...take a picture sweetie, DON'T YOU SEE THIS SUIT??!!!" - Prince, "Baby I'm a Star" But I'm skipping around - the night really started when I pulled my ticket out of the envelope & saw "Row 1"!!!! THANK YOU NPGMC!!!!! My seats were obviously awesome! Funny how everybody thinks he favors their side of the room, lol - shows he covers the stage well. Some songs played tonight sounded better than I've EVER heard them sound (maybe that's what the front row does to you, LOL)... Particularly "U Got the Look" & "Raspberry Beret". I'll admit I'm usually thinking, "what's the next song?" when he plays "Raspberry". But tonight I was singing it @ the top of my lungs - REALLY cool how he started it acoustic then had the band come & fill it out (then he went around & did the Ike Turner, "fine you $5!!" to everybody - hilarious!!). It sounded great! And the bass on "U Got the Look"??? Kilt me!!! Not killed, KILT!! "... we'll call him... Prince... if he's SEXY!" - Prince, "SOTT" Now... I've been waiting to hear him to "Whole Lotta Love" live ever since I heard he did it years ago @ the Celebration (which I've never been to ) & some aftershows in Europe. I never thought he'd pull it out on this tour - thank God I was wrong! They must have played this for 10 or 15 minutes & I screamed my head off!! They stretched it out, I believe he did 2 guitar solos on it (both killer!) & John did an amazing drum solo. P just stood back & watched - I love that he requires moments for his musicians to shine, he seems to love nothing more. They ripped it up & the crowd ate it up - such a diverse group too. I saw everything from hip hop heads to rocker dudes to folks that looked like they just got done spitting tobacco on their farm. EVERYBODY was in the house LOVING IT "... wouldn't it be nice if the world just wanted to make love & make music?" - Prince, leading into "Dear Mr. Man" acoustic I did miss hearing "7" on full blast w/ the band, that always sounds so good. Missed "On the Couch" too but it seems like last night he added some lyrics so I'm cool w/ that (gonna have to be, huh? ) He didn't do "Question of U/The One/Fallin'" That's always so amazing & such a highlight for me, but he did completely KILL it last night so I can't complain, and he was near me when he got all hype & screamed on "The One" - I really cannot complain! LAWD, that man is gorgeous... No "Call My Name" either but I was so surprised & giddy to get it last night I didn't even mind. Such an incredible show tonight. "Can't nobody mess wit my band!!" - Prince After he said this (pretty early on in the first set) he sat down in a chair w/ a table in front of it, kicked his legs up on the table. Chance brought him a bag w/ cookies inside. Prince repeatedly took bites off cookies & threw them into the audience. I ain't NEVER seen grown folks fighting over cookies!! But they were trying like everything to catch those things. Then he played like he was gonna take a nap. We all roared like crazy, this show was SO FUN!!!! I still think my absolute favorite parts musically are "SOTT", "Let's Work", "Life 'O the Party", "Dear Mr. Man", "PR" & that busy section that starts "I Feel 4 U" w/ the horns & everything (sorry, I don't know the musical term for it)... "Say yeaaaa!" Dananana dada daaaa dananana da da! Dananana dada daaaa dananana da da! I don't know what else to say, I've said too much already. They should close that mutha down & dedicate it to him - he TORE IT DOWN!! I drove home saying, "DAYUM!!" over & over. I just don't know what to do with myself right now - how can I go on after this?? How does HE do this night in, night out??? I'm buzzing w/ joy, great memories & MANY THANKS to Prince & the NPG for the best show of my life & to the NPGMC for the best seats in the house. Amazing, amazing, amazing night... LAWD!!! . Alllllrrrriiiiggghhhttt!!!!! I was wondering how the back-to-back would work out, especially since he just announced a second show here in Houston. Now, I might be looking forward to the second show more than the first.

Calhoun, once again you've got me busting up laughing. Thanks!
I saw him at the Staples opener, saw him last week in Anaheim. After reading your report, you've got me all hyped up to see him again on Saturday at Staples. My favorite part of the show so far is dancing to DMSR. He's doing "Everlasting Now" now??? Wow! Can't wait. "No, I'm not that mysterious. I'm a pretty open book. Calhoun, I always love reading your comments - I'm SO glad you enjoyed yourself! Sounds like you had an a-m-a-z-i-n-g night! I've never written a concert report before but, when he hits the UK, I'll definitely post one. I just hope it's half as passionate as your's. LOVE the 'cookies' bit!

I had great seats, about 3 rows up on the side - perfect eye level. And right in front of Rhonda. The pre-show tunes were phenomenal - Screams of Passion, 17 Days, Vavoom..
Parts of the show I missed hearing (from earlier gigs) -- Beautiful Ones/The One/Fallin', I would liked to have heard Call My Name, and he only did one song for encore - Purple Rain. Highlights of THIS show -- The acoustic set seemed longer and AMAZING.. PLEASE put out a live acoustic set cd.. tonight's version of Alphabet St. on acoustic guitar blew me away. I remember thinking during that song "this is worth the price of admission alone". And, PRINCE PLAYED HIS BASS!!! During.. umm, wow, I forget the song but I was so happy to see him playing it (the black one). AND, he played Adore acoustic. Whole Lotta Love was cool, but I had heard that before at the celly. All in all, I'm glad I went to see how the tour has evolved since the opener at Staples. Looking forward to seeing him again in September! PS I forgot.. Dear Mr Man acoustic sounds really nice, and when he started playing "7" acoustic, the band started to come onstage and he told them to leave.. I guess he felt like playing another few songs.. or he messed up the setlist order. [This message was edited Thu Jun 3 10:18:04 2004 by anemone]

Butt nugget? Didn't you read my report on the 5/26 show. Hell, i'm still trying to recover from that and i've got to go through it again tonight. Not to mention again on Saturday. If I wasn't taking my underage kids both nights, i'd be suffering through 2 aftershows also. Give a brother a break. Butt nugget? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm p.s. Who can top or equal Calhoun's awesome 1st row review? Just gonna give my random 2 cents. Anyway I'm horrid with details. I was up in the nosebleeds, and still had a wonderful rockin', funkin' great time. I was just happy for my long time friends' excitement over seeing him live and reliving the great music years from childhood. I was floored by the drummer. OMG, he looked like he had octupus arms covering the drum kit.
Life 'O' The Party did it for me. I didn't want that song to end. I'm impartial to the hits of the 80's, and there were moments that I wish he didn't turn them into medleys or teasers, but I was still satified with the selections. I just love how Prince draws all types of people young and old, crossing every social boundary out there. I thoroughly enjoyed him more since he was in the middle of the Arena compared to Oakland a couple of years ago. Just the connection with the audience and call and response kept the concert lively the entire time. I beg to differ that Prince performed more to my side of the arena. Hopefully a couple of pics will turn out well, between the lights, and more than likely Prince will look like a red, or blue dot. I'm lovin' Musicology. I purposely waited to get it last night, and that's all I'm going to play for awhile. I'm glad I changed my mind and went because Prince definitely showed class and schooled the crowd last night. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

The "Everlasting Now" confusion may be because at the end of "Controversy" in the first set, after he teases "Housequake," he yells the "everybody...just JUMP - UP - AND - DOWN!" like he does in "Everlasting Now." Whatever, it's all one big funky jam, right?
