from what i read on facebook, guestimates of 5000 people in the cue, all the way to little collins. that must have been at around 12, because at 2:30 ish we saw the cue from the car and it was much shorter. people who were close to the wall got in, some fans touched princes hand, and were in the same room as him, so wasn't too bad. we had heard from kerri before the concert that prince and the npg weren't going to perform.

I was in the line with about 5 or 6 friends . They all got in, I did not. sad
HOWEVER, apparently he didn't play a thing, just spun one or two records. By being kept outside, I was within 2 or 3 metres of Prince when he arrived to come through the main entrance. Again, I tried to get in the line but was pushed to the very back coz I was not close enough to the wall. Hung with some nice folks at the back of the line and one of them turned out to be the Org's Lust from NZ. Top bloke!
Anyway, we hang around just in hope miraculously getting in, which didn't happen.
HOWEVER, when the NPG left, they all started coming out the main entrance into their cars. By this time there were probably only 20 people still hanging outside. And eventually, out comes Princey again. He was trying to hide his face behind his collar (to hide from people's smartphones. Not my Nokia 3315, obviously) and again, I got quite close to him. So I didn't have to pay a cent and got close to one of my musical heroes cool

Oh and the Rod Laver gig was 10 times better thant the May 15th show that I also got to.

I'm going to bed, I've got a Tai Chi lesson in 5 hours wink

I got in

Agree the line management was atrocious. Very unfair for real fans who lined up and didn't get to go in.

I got into a couple of heated discussions inside speaking to douche bags who, when I asked whether he'd been to the concert, and I quote "don't have time to go to a Prince concert"

Got into a bit of a fisti cuffs with another douche cos I was making everyone stop using their cameras in the small window that P did come down to the DJ booth. People - can't you see Damaris telling y'all to put the cameras down?!

One of the camera douches actually came up to me afterwards and shoved his camera in my face with the photo he took of P and arrogantly said "Should I send you the photo?". You should have seen the look on his face when I said "Actually, No!"

We knew it was likely P wouldn't play. Perhaps if the douches weren't there we would have seen something more, it's unfortunate that the crowd is like another 'Ivy'.

Still, I'm super glad I saw him, again. His presence really does do something for you. Happy to pay $25 to hear DJ Rashida spin a few tracks and watch P talk to some of the nicer people in the crowd, inlcuding some high fives for some.

Now to figure out how to make the purple high last smile

I think some of the numbers are stretching things somewhat. Being near the back of the line from 11.30 till 1.30, and having a good look at the queue I'd guestimate there were 2,000 people lined up.

Also, the queue went two thirds of the way down the Swanston-Elizabeth street block. Not all the way, and not 500 metres down the block since it's only 250 metres in length!

Glad to hear the stories of being near Prince and meeting the band.

Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

I imagine there would've been a lot more communicating among the people in the line but I noticed that most people's phones were nearly dead by that time coz they'd used up all the juice to get pics and vids of the arena concert.

I agree with Blackout about that a concert ticket (30th) should be required for entry to the afterparty, instead of it being a stampede or a place to be seen at.

Also agree with Disey about the types of punters that entered the venue. "I don't have the time to attend a Prince concert." It reminds me of a few people that i know.....

I thought about attending it but changed my mind after hearing about the queue to get in. Maybe if Prince ever tours again, it is something that the promoters might like to consider instead of letting in troublemakers. Now if Prince does tour OzLand again, how about an Unplugged performance like 'Live at the Chapel'. Always wanted to see Prince funk it out acoustically. 'Willing And Able' would be brilliant done that way. Alas, i can only dream about it in my head....

Lol. Actually I just realized I am. I'm the guy right at the back. My head is popping just above the crowd next to a blonde guy with long hair. I'm wearing glasses. In front of DJ Rashida.

For the first few minutes my girlfriend and I didn't even know Prince was in there. We thought everyone was watching Rashida. Then after realizing we went around the other side and somehow got to the front. LOL. Can't believe I'm in this pic.

Indeed, wow! Right in the middle of it all. And it looks like hell!

Not only too many people in your face but far too much tetesterone in the room. No wonder he likes to hang out with women. 8-)What a life, I wouldn't like to be Prince that's for sure.

What did he play on the decks? A piece of the sample set had some great dance music in between. I know he doesn't like electronic music (don't know why coz there really is some great music there) but did he spin anything recognised or worth mentioning?

After literally being the last person permitted entry, my buzz was diluted with the lack of a performance of course. Having said that, the whole experience during the cue was in itself a wonderful finale to what was a magnificent concert memory for me. I spent time in great company at the Hi fi cue. Thanks again...You know who you are!

It was actually a band called The Putbacks. Not The Bamboos.

So they said but they looked suspiciously similar.
