I went to the Wembley Stadium gig in 1993 & I had a fantastic time. I think you just accept that it's a different experience to a gig like say, Brixton Academy 98.

I've got my Hop Farm ticket (& a room at the Tonbridge North Travelodge!) & I'm REALLY looking forward to the whole experience....though I'll probably wear my wellies!

Hmmmmm, wonder if I can get some purple ones.....

Anyone I've ever talked to who went to see Prince at Wembley Stadium has always had negative things to say about it. Maybe it was just a particularly bad concert.

My first 3 concerts ever were all at Wembley Stadium and I really enjoyed them all. I haven't been back since though, and not since it was rebuilt.

Me and my brother really loved the wembley gig....we were in the middle of the arena and cool people around us and it was great to hear a full stadium sing....you sexy motherf.......r wink)!!!!

The first time I saw prince was outside at Maine Road in Manchester 1992 and I loved it, I was 10. Last year I went to Wercheter and to be honest it was the worst Prince gig I've been to (out of 15), this are the reasons:

1. It Rained (a lot)

2. The Set list sucked

3. Larry Graham's set went on way too long with countless encores

4. Prince did 4 or 5 encores (2 songs then a break then another 2 etc)

5. The audience were not digging it (quite a few people seemed to actually be taking the piss)

Hop Farm would have to be spectacularly bad to be worse than Wercheter IMHO but I do wish it was in an arena or theatre.

Your not kidding, Act II, I think that was. Was that his first and only appearance at Wembley Stadium? I still remember the look-a-like in the yellow suit in the audience. That was a good day, I remember the full moon over the stage as he sopke the first verse of Race. And Mayte coming down on the trapeese seat at the start of the show pretending to be Prince. Glory days.

Tickets being sent out right now for Hop Farm smile

I think he also did 25-26 Jun 1987 on the SOTT tour. Now THAT I wish I'd seen!

I remember the whole trapeze thing too! Wouldn't it be great if we could go out & buy official DVD's of all these gigs we've been too? It's not like they weren't filmed!

He never even played the UK for SOTT tour. It was cut short and the dates were cancelled. I only first saw Prince in 2002 at Hammersmith, but I made up for it 15 times over for 21 Nights in 2007. Really annoyed that I missed the glory years, especially as I was a fan at that point, but never thought about going to concerts until my teenage years.

Just hope they can get someone better than Beverly Knight for support!

I hope your username sums up your comment!!

She was on Twitter earlier saying that NOTHING will stop her from being there on the 3rd. Whether she is to perform or not she didn't say...

Yes, I've got nothing better to do than follow Beverly Knight on Twitter so of course I knew that she said that...

that was sarcasm by the way, not sure that I laid it on thick enough.

I wonder if it's an option to get a taxi back? Do you think would be more than £25-30 if there were a few sharing? OMG Cat. I RAN from Arras to the train station, I thought I was going to die, my life literally flashed before my eyes and I nearly gave up running saying to my friends really dramatically 'just leave me, save yourselves' before arriving at the train station and standing on the train for an age waiting for everyone to get there. What a loser I am! LOL!

LOL...Arras was hard work! I remember we pushed our way near the front and we was so hot and squashed and with all the waiting I felt ill, I was getting more and more dizzy i could feel my legs trembling from under me and kept looking up int the sky for air, I turned to Pepper7 saying I dont think I'm gonna make it I think im gonna faint, the horror on her face falloff but then Larry came on stage and everyone pushed forward I suddenly felt ok.

We missed quite a few trains back and had to stay in Lille for the night, Lille was nice.

I vowed I will never see Prince in a place like that again, seated only...I must be off my rocker or just plain gullible to be doing this again, but here we are lol

Sharing a taxi home is a good idea.

Doesn't matter what he puts us through, we just keep going back for more, don't we...

Sheesh!

wink

Shut up already, damn.

I think you'll find British festival crowds a little more accomodating than that, for the most part. I've done a few of them over the years and the crowds are well behaved, as they aren't made up entirely of hardcore "must get down the front" fans. We Brits know how to queue and stand in a polite way! smile

Case in point, I was lucky enough to see Madonna at the Radio 1 Big Weekend in Maidstone couple of years back, and even though the main tent was packed waiting for her to come out there was no shoving or moodiness. It was very hot in there and the security at the front were handing out much needed cups of water. But rather than gulp them down all the blokes round where I was were passing them on to women and kids who needed them more...thought that was a nice touch. Seems to be fairly standard for what a British festival crowd is like though, so Im sure you'll be in good company.

Ahh, yes.....what an amazing gig (even if Wembley Stadium was a shite venue!) - my girlfriend and I even saw a shooting star out of the roof of the stadium once it was getting dark... just added to the atmosphere and sheer amazingness of it all!

But Hop Farm will be a different thing entirely! For me, there is nothing better than standing in a field, under the stars with tens of thousands of other people having a great time, listening to amazing music at massive soundlevels (and, as long as there's not too much wind, music outside just sounds incredible!).....its all just an incredible experience.

I've been to hundreds of festivals in my time (I'm a working musician, so I play a lot of them) and have seen some incredible and legendary gigs and artists - but NEVER have I seen my favourite artist at a festival - so, for me, it has my senses and anticipation incredibly heightened!

Can't wait smile

1. The Rain made it. Hot summer Rain.

2. The Setlist was O.K

3. Larry Graham always goes on too long, but if he had a shorter set, Prince wouldnt have come on any earlier.

4. And he will probably do 6 or 5 Encores at Hop Farm.

5. Not sure where you was , must ahve been at the car park, cause it was Funking where we was.

I haven't posted on here for a while, but:

wooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooo!

I bought my ticket yesterday!! My non-Prince-fan boyfriend(who gets quite annoyed at my awe) happened to casually mention it yesterday and before he could finish the sentence, I was plugging my card details into the laptop! I dont think I have ever typed so fast!

Thinking of getting the green coach..

Dave, I was at the Radio 1 weekender watching Madonna too and it was quite a comfortable experience...

There must be something wrong with the machinery!

Imelda May is great act, particularly live, but the rest of the line up is very weak. But its the addition of Larry Graham again that will make me simply turn up for Prince on his own and stay away from the rest fo the day. I don't think I could make it through his set again.
