At certain arena's they are strict about not being able to bring cameras in. Most of all the arena's, clubs/halls I've been to, security didn't say anything about not being able to bring in cameras. But there was this one time I went to a show, security said no cameras and dozens of people had their cameras taken from them, but I was one of the lucky ones who was able to sneak mine in.

I still trip on the pile of cameras confiscated on the way into the Nokia Theatre show. What was shocking was that my friend actually got hers back after the show. But then we didn't get searched at all at the later shows where you'd think the cameras would be more of a pain for Prince. shrug

Yea, I know it's crazy. Security really should let you bring cameras in...there's no harm in taking pics and filming concert footage to keep for memories.

During the 12/18 show, we were on the floor Section 21 and I was taking pictures and so was a girl in the row in front of me. A security guard walked right up to me and said, "No pictures or videotaping allowed...Prince's rules not mine" and he rolled his eyes. My roommate was like, 'Oh, that little man' and the security guard laughed and said, "Oh, he is soo little too." He just walked away and didn't even try to take my camera. I don't think security really cares because like he said, it's Prince's rule not there's. nod

It's easier to get away with bringing a cam at stadium type venues than smaller onces. I wouldn't dare take my chance bringing one to a standing room event, but MSG-yes!

They might as well confiscate the cameras since Prince clearly doesn't want us sharing videos. I know that there are live performances of Prince on youtube so I didn't think my videos would be a problem. Well.. all my videos were taken down.. pronto!

I didn't have his name in the title. However, they still got taken down. I guess I should make them private, but the point of youtube is share with the world. I'm not gonna bother uploading again.

I would just like to thank everyone for giving their review of the shows. I have never had the opportunity to see Prince live but I have enjoyed experiencing the concerts through your reviews.

Hopefully Prince will make the decision to show the rest of the U.S. a little love and take the show across county.

Keeping my fingers crossed:-D .

I live in the UK and when I heard Prince was touring the states I was kind of jealous. However, having seen the set list I gotta say (and I never thought I would say this) but it all sounds a bit SAMEY...this is pretty much the basis of the gigs he has been playing the past seven years.

It certainly reflects the core songs played at the 21 Nights at the O2 in London (although clearly many of you guys in the States didn't get to see that set of shows).

It just seems so odd that Prince has always been so excited about his new music but never bothers to promote it and instead focuses on material that is over 20 years old!!!!!

While the overall consistency of the newer albums IMHO have not been as good since around 94/95 onwards (depending on when you consider TGE to have been recorded rather than belatedly released) there has without doubt been many wonderful songs in the past 15 years.

So why not play more of them?

The 21 nights gigs had a decent sprinkling of newer songs (including those from Planet Earth) - not every night but some. For me these were the highlights as it reminded me of the heady days of of the 80s when you heard new songs played at concerts, sometimes as the bulk of material!

I used to get cross when people said Prince was becoming a nostalgia act - but on the strength of the MSG set list I am starting to agree.

What a shame sad

I didn't say "washed up singer" I said nostalgia act. Very different!

If a "washed up singer" can pack a large venue like MSG and have people on their feet practically the whole show like last night then I guess being a "washed up singer" is not a bad thing at all. lol

[Edited 12/30/10 6:21am]

MANY nostalgia acts can get people on their feet and put on an excellent show.

I really enjoyed the 21 Nights at the O2 in London BUT for ME the highlights were when he played newer material. I have been to around 30-40 Prince gigs in my life so while I still enjoy hearing Purple Rain etc what I PREFER to hear are rare old songs and new songs.

THAT is what made the ONA tour so amazing. The set list was really varied.

Hey if I lived in NY I would have been at the MSG concert bopping away and enjoying it...but I would have had my fingers crossed for some post 1995 material.

When your newest song on your Set List came out in 1991 and its 2010, 2 days away from 2011, one may not be washed up but certainly qualifies as a "Nostalgic Act"!!! lol

lol It always amazes me that people who weren't at a particular show, always have to b*tch and whine like they were there, and think the show they were "not at" mind you, was performed specifically with them in mind. The poster you replied to wasn't there, so reading a setlist from a piece of paper could never define or confirm how well a performance is. When will some fans "get that?"lol All I have to say is that Prince "owned " NYC with that show last night. I'm so glad, those who weren't there and complaining about a show they never attended, just by reading the setlist, and not "witnessing" the actual performance, well, I'd like to thank those those folks for not being there, because last night's show was awesome headbang without you.lol

[Edited 12/30/10 6:51am]

So you carefully read what I said then didn't you!!!! Sheesh people aren't allowed to have an opinion that doesn't consist of purple kool ade!

I already said I wish I had been there. I would have still enjoyed the show. BUT FOR ME I would like to see some newer material.

Get over yourself!

I know what you mean, however p. mentioned in a recent interview he's all too aware of th need to crowd please with classic hits, hence these 'samey' setlists.

But Montreux 2009 shows us that he can put together setlists for more discerning/hardcore crowds (as was ONA).

He knows what's needed and it makes sense his current setlists are the way they are.

I went to 17 o2 main shows and recently Rome/Milan 20ten gigs and I got a bit bored in Italy (over staurated from o2) but I think the current American shows sound great, particulary izod 17/12/10...

It's worth it alone for the reworked LRC then songs like Cool. Sheila there too is great to see/hear on Love Bizarre, full length versions of adore, the beautiful ones, saimh etc etc

What else would he need to playing right now to major arena cowds?? I think he's got it right.

Man you are right. Of course he has to please the casual Prince fans but why not also expose them to some material post 1991. Is he ashamed of it? For a lot of casual listeners I bet they think Prince hasn't done anything since the mid 90s! He has had some classic stuff in the last 15 years - so play SOME of it.

The balance of any concert has to be the better known material (although saying that, it wasn't his approach for the SOTT tour) but peppered with new material or at least rarely played stuff.

THIS IS WHAT HE DID SOME NIGHTS AT THE O2 and it worked very nicely thank you.

lol I pretty much made that comment about "If a fan isn't at the show, how can they judge a show they were never at?".lol .

There is a simple answer to this... Prince.org is a DISCUSSION FORUM where people can share their OPINIONS.

I shared mine. It is as valid as yours or anyones.

I am SURE the NY concert was great. I am sure I would have greatly enjoyed it.

But for the record WHY NOT PLAY A FEW NEWER SONGS ALONGSIDE THE WELL KNOWN CLASSICS!

Time was when Prince had the confidence to play a concert with NOTHING EXCEPT NEW SONGS - look at the set list for SOTT.

I am not saying that would be a good idea now. Fact is he had his biggest success in the 80s. While a shame for many of joe public Prince is a nostalgia act...

...how can I say that. Easily. WHo except hardcore fans have bought Princes albums since the mid 90s? Ask most of joe public what Prince's last single was?

That doesn't mean *I* think he hasn't got it anymore. Quite the contrary. I think Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, LotusFlower and 20Ten ALL have some VERY GOOD SONGS. You could easily compile 2-3 albums from all of the material that would rate as good as anything Prince has ever done.

So as I said before WHY NOT PLAY SOME OF THIS MATERIAL?????????

First of all, I agree about all his recent albums having some very good songs on it that would so much deserve to be heard!!! BUT, judging from the videos I have seen of the US shows, it seems that whenever Prince played songs from one of those albums - Dreamer and Laydown come to mind - the crowd did not really embrace these songs. That was most certainly because the majority did not know the songs. Now we know that Prince likes fan participation at his concerts, so when there is little reaction to a song he plays that might turn him off from playing the newer music? Just my take on it.

I guess I just miss the days when Prince would promote his latest album with a tour that balanced new with old.
