Only one change of dress for the evening—for the encore. He started in a red suit with a black shirt, collar turned up, unbuttoned from the top three/four buttons. For the encore, a black suit with red line running diagonal. For the sound check a black and white striped sweater, dark glasses, white winter-style cap. The band pretty much wore the opposite of his main outfit—black suits with red shirts, black ties. The band: Renato Neto, Rhonda Smith, John Blackwell, Maceo Parker, Candy Dulfer, Greg Boyer. I had only seen Rhonda as a band member before, the rest were new to me. The band was tight, professional and having a lot of fun. At one point Mr. B’Well was holding down the beat while: taking off his coat, drinking water and checking his hair in a mirror, amongst other things. My girlfriend was being christened into the Prince concert world on her maiden voyage and gave the show three stars (missing the coveted fourth star by preaching too much). The soundcheck included The Question of U. He asked the crowd at one point if they like to give or receive. A lady down front shouted she'd prefer to give. So, Prince asked if she wouldn't mind giving up her front row seat to the brother a few rows back. She did, and in turn he brought her up on stage, sat her down stage right and did a guitar solo for her. Another time a couple folks were invited up 2 dance. I was third row off to the side a bit, to Prince's left. The ticket thing went pretty orderly. We showed up, got a number, got in order by that number, then someone came around and checked our IDs (no printout of proof you bought tickets was checked). We were given a laminate and yellow wrist tags were attched to us. We then (eventually) made our way in. The program is $25. There are CDs by Rhonda Smith and two of Maceo's being sold. In our town they have those cows on parade. One inside the venue was decorated NPG style, wearing a purple jersey and red fedora. Some people tried to sit where only club members were assigned to and they were asked to leave. One poor sap got tackled as he tried to run by like 4-5 security guards. That's the night in a nutshell, let's see if I can recall any other details. Goodnight, ya'll, and much praise to The NPG!!

It was truly a beautiful experience, Prince as always was in fine form doing what he does best. I did miss seeing him dance I gotta say, but I'm sure he really wanted the main focus on his music & message souly. And he proved that "the music" is what its all about! He served up the best musicianship with his one of akind amazing stage presence...4 a little man Prince, packs a punch like King King~
Seeing & more important hearing this new chapter in Prince's musical journey really helps put The Rainbow Children in perspective more clearly. I may not have been down with all he spoke about but on alot of things I found we had the same common ground. He surprise's still.. he makes it look easy when it comes 2 his fluid guitar playing or when he hits them beautiful notes or sings in such a gorgeous voice....damn, I was sitting there like Oh my ***, this brotha is so Supa-Bad! Not 2 bring up the fact I got so moved...oh lawd, my eyez may have had traces of water in them...Thats his Power Fantastic, I was feelin running through me...it reached way down in2 my soul.
2 see him up close the more U feel & see the mans passion and deep love 4 what Gods blessed him with. Yeah, it was fact that last night Prince owned & had Portland in his hands as well as in his world.....Like he warned if U wasn't with it U better leave now.....I know I was with it, in my funky cream outfit & hat. Dancing in tight quarters workin it free style with a female Prince "fanatic" that was tellin me "come-on brotha/playa show me what U got"....good gawd, I turned & made some peeps laugh as I made lite of the womans funny remarks...makes U wonder if she ever danced with a man that had soul B4~ (lol) So feelin P's music I had 2 get down with her in the isles 4 a second ...But thats what Prince's music does 2 U. Makes U shed your shell & jump out yo skin 2 get funky with him & everyone else who's there feelin his purple ways~ The night at the Schnitzer was only part one as part 2 at the Roseland topped off what was a fantastic night!!
Portland showed the love as everyone was singing love is God, God is love girls & boys love God above....Powerful stuff and heart felt moments all over the place.....Lovesexy 2 the 9's and I'm just so happy I was apart of it. Sidenote: Maceo Parker got a kick when I said his name like Prince does as he was getting his horn from the van at the aftershow..."I said Maceo blow your horn" ...he turn around and said whats up with that great smile I was feelin as good as JB... what a nite, I may have went by myself 2 (One Nite Alone) but I was never alone, as Prince did his job and took me higher~

The afterparty show was off da hook, 2!!!! He played at the Roseland 2 a packed house until 3am!!!! Portland has never witnessed the funk like that, but they were up 2 the challenge and even surprised the man I think. He kept saying how funky we were!!! Let's hope he doesn't neglect Portland again 4 another 5 years and return soon!!

It was great to meet many of the Org members from Oregon, Washington and California who came to the show (Connie, Michelle, Dorothy, Gemineye, Jennifer and others) Props to you!
The aftershow was another concert in itself…. Even MUCH funkier than the show!
Calhoun Square…. Oh… my…

Takumi (Prince's personal tech)told me that Portland was the last city on the tour and they were all going seprate ways for now and taking a one month break from touring.

I’m sure prince was getting his musical rock off last night at the Portland Aftershow before he takes his one month break.
I feel so fortunate to have witnessed, but also fell Portland was deserving of this and was VERY into it.

24 hours later, I still haven’t fully recovered from the funk…
