Prince Oakland concert experience.... Prince's maturity in Music

I have been a Prince fan all of my life, and I have collected every album that he has released, including stuff he didn't. For my 18th b day last year I got tickets to the hit n run concert in oakland at the colosieum, and I have been wanting to go to one of his concerts 4ever, 4-28-01 I finally got my oppurtunity. I was more so in awe just to be in his presense and I focused really hard on everything that he was doing that it distracted me from having time of my life. But on 4-24-02 i got funky, I let loose, and danced, and singed every lyric that he had sang, except rollercoaster of love (Know the chorus and thats it) and the Good Ol Abe was a racists song. To whoever posted way back that Prince had lost it, well they lost their god damn mind cause he was as funky as ever, the show lasted over 3hours, probably 3hours and 15 to 20 mins, and we rocked hard in a funky place (oaktown) all night, and dammit I wish that I would not have ended. But Like i was saying, that concert was the my fav out of the 2 in total that I have been to of his so far, and the best concert experience of my life by far. And to those people out there who says that he dosent have it anymore, you're crazy. Prince has always had it, you guys are just stuck in living in the past. Its funny cause everybody has their fav era of Prince, some people love the Dirty Mind Era more than they love the 1999 era, shit some people love the emancipation era more than the Purple Rain era. My fav is hard to choose, Lovesexy stands tall with SOTT and Parade, I wish I could have seen more of his sgt pepper hair cut in 85s ATWIAD era. But anyways, to those who are living in the past, get over it cause Prince is new and improved. If he wanted to make a Sign pt 2 1999 pt2 or a Purple Rain pt2 I honestly believe that he can. The music might not be as good, but if anybody can top their past success today other than S Wonder, as far as quality of the music, its Prince. But why compete with the past, remeber former rules don't apply. And people says that he has changed and as well as his music. Well somebody answer me this, are Camille and Christopher Tracy the same? what about The Kid and Alexander Nevermind?, or Jamie Starr and Spooky Electric? Man Prince has been changing every year since 78, and so has his music, and if you didn't notice that, then where in the hell have you been, I am only 18, and I will be 19 on the 22nd of May (Gemini fo sho) and even I know this. And if your doubting his ability in his creation of music, and or performance, then I guess you really don't understand him or his music at all, and it shows the lack of respect. Now I would love for Prince to slap on a loud yellow suite and slick his hair back like he did in the Parade era one more time, or do another Dirty Mind, or relive the Purple Rain days, and create 1984 music once again, as we get older, he gets older, and his music is a sign of maturity. Just be glad that we were all blessed to hear Camille and his funky guitar, be glad for Jamie Starr putting out great music through others, and be glad that he showered us with his Purple Rain... and lets rise with him now. He said it best Rainbow Children rise. Let's Go Crazy!!!!!

And what do you consider "old school" Prince? The Diamonds & Pearls album/tour?

good question PussyControl.
what is old school Prince?
there are to many different deminsions of Prince that you can't stick him with one paticular thing, and say that, that's old school Prince. I know one thing, I love and respect everything that Prince has done, and will learn to love and respect everything that he will put out in the future, if I dont love it already from the jump. People complain that Prince is to religious, and those people should look pass that. Prince has put out so much great music on a consistent basis that he should be allowed to put out whatever kind of music he wants without people complaining. From For You to Rainbow Children are a bunch of great albums, and to the ones that weren't well accepted or as good as his elite album, you still came across great songs. For a man of his stature, musically, he should be allowed to do or say whatever he wants, and it should be respected. He can talk about have sex with his sister, and thats all good within his die-hard fan base, but its not cool to talk about god? People forget that what makes Prince so special is his versatility. Don't hate the man for his new found beliefs.

A friend of mine sent me two Mp3 of the Chicago concert. I have videos of Lovesexy Tour, Purple Rain Tour, The jam of the year tour and Glam Slam 95 on video, plus some bootlegs with Revolution, Lovesexy and NPGs.
All I can say is that these two songs (TRC and Everlasting Now) had more musicianship than 80% of all these videos combined.
And it´s not because of the bands....I believe it´s because of Prince.
The other concerts were full of medleys, dancers, chants, etc, but the Chicago concert seem to be concentrated on the MUSIC!!
I have no doubt that Prince is now much more mature as a musician and as a person. He seems to be much more ´clean´ and simple than before, focusing more on being a serious musician than a pop star

It's funny to hear people "outside the loop" who says he's lost it, doesn't have it anymore, blah, blah.. When I ask point blank what they mean the answer I consistently get is "well you never hear of him anymore, radio, tv, etc. Prince hasn't been played consistently on the radio since 1984 & still sells out with only 2 days notice which isn't the point anyway. We all know the media & corporations own the industry nowadays, the rules have changed & the man was wise to the change years ago & knew he needed to get away from the suits. If your basing Prince has "lost it" due to his popularity then forget it he'll never be mainstream. The only regret I have is I'd like to see him stick it up the naysayers arses & play at a big awards show TRC style & show the rest of world how it's done.

Well, I gotta be honest....as much as I love his music now, I must admit he lost good part of his innovative/underground side. When you listen to SOTT and Parade, it was much more unique than Diamonds and Pearls and Rave, for example.
But now Prince is much more musical than ever. I am happy that he is more mature now....the 80s had great songs, but lots of ´pop star´ attitude and teeny bop stuff...
Wendy and Lisa said once something like: ´usually the girls shake their booties while the guys are playing...with Prince it was the opposite´.....and it´s true.
Lots of his concerts were more about chants, dancing, choreographies than music itself.
I am glad he changed (judging for Chicago songs)
